I found myself out of my element up in northern Washington state with a "pack" of hard-boiled, anarchist, primalist, outdoorsmen?all of whom, if given the opportunity, would have been perfectly willing, I suspect, to get on their knees for Nathan Weaver, Wolves In The Throne Room's vocalist?a little over a year ago. Not only were there a lot of trees, mud, cheap whiskeys, and showers that went untaken, a lot of Wolves In The Throne Room was listened to. Read more ›› |

Really the pinnacle of Atmospheric Black Metal. I ripped tons of the drum sections of this album for Rosemount Hill and was really inspired by the overall atmosphere. "Vastness & Sorrow" has the perfect balance of atmosphere and riffage. It even has a two step part (around 6 minutes in). "I Will Lay Down My Bones Among The Rocks And Roots" is one of the few epic song lengths I can regularly tolerate. I could do without the black metal section in "Cleansing", that's what holds this at a 9 instead of a 10 for me, but still, beautiful record.
