1997's "Sehnsucht" is the second studio album from the most exposed German singing band on earth, Rammstein. In their characteristic style, quite difficult to label, but I guess close to Industrial Metal. Those six former East-Germans reached a status of international stars with this very album, especially in the United States, all of this starting after some of their songs were selected for a movie soundtrack ['Lost Highway' by David Lynch]. Then, this album just overwhelmed everybody who had the chance to listen to it, and all of this despite of the fact that all the songs use the natural language of the band, German. It even became mandatory for the band to sing in German since it has become one of the trademark of their music.

This is a pretty good album, and probably a great improvement on 'herzeleid', though i like that album too. In this album Rammstein had better songwriting, not to mention some of the industrial side of their music here proves worthwhile and quite fitting alongside their heavy riffs.

Definitely best Rammstein album. Includes classics such as "Bück dich", "Engel" or "Eifersucht".

Part of my nostalgia trip. There is a change in sound here; a more distorted dance sound, no wonder the term "Tanz Metal" came into being. An album just as strong as Herzeleid, but this also the album where you can kind of notice that Till sings off-key at times.

Honestly I think this band is extremely overrated. Their music is very boring, and a lot of their songs sound the same. I should relisten to this and some others in their discog though, but there was never a time where I liked Rammstein.

Out of all the bands started to listen when I was a kid, Rammstein is the one that stuck the most while the rest faded away. i hope I get to see them live at some point.
I'm quite a nerd for this band so obviously I'm biased when I say that no, they do not soun the same.

I fucking love Klavier, the main riff is almost black metal in its technique.

^ It is true the songs don't sound ther same though.

If you listen to any other NDH band like say Deathstars, Megaherz, Eisbrecher et al, then those have mostly the same songs played over and over again. But in Rammstein there is a distinctive factor in every song which makes you realize "oh this is song x". I don't know how they do that but that's why I like them but not neue deutsche harte in general :3

Hah, how much tastes can differ. To me this remains their best album. Dark and brooding. One could say that they wrote better lyrics afterwards but the songs themselveshave never been as catchy and heavy as on this album.

Ah my introduction to the metal genre. And what an introduction it was!

It's close between this one and "Mutter" but I think I still slightly prefer this one.

^^ Was my introduction to Rammstein, and is also a toss between this one and "Mutter" for me. Great album, probably has the best "flow" of all Rammstein albums
