Supergroups are often vanity projects for those involved, rich in talent but often rarely living up to the hype they generate, yet still becoming bigger than their recorded output deserves. Alcatrazz however were the near inverse of this situation, a band featuring erstwhile Rainbow frontman Graham Bonnet and a young Yngwie Malmsteen fresh out of Steeler: talent in spades and a record of huge quality, but at the expense of not having much in the way of success. I don't think this album usually gets the praise it deserves. If you can get past the thin-sounding production, it's actually really enjoyable and unique hard rock album. I must say, Yngwie's neoclassical shredding really fits the music here and gives it much needed personality and wow-factor it otherwise lacks. No wonder Yngwie went solo after this.

Written by John_Doe on 15.03.2020 at 18:22 Yup, Graham Bonnet talked about the issue in a recent interview some time ago. Nobody ever wanted to sleep in the same hotel room with Yngwie, the man came up with some improvised endless extra solos so often they ended up plugging his guitar off at some point to actually get the songs going anywhere. Yngwie was nightmare to work with.

Oh yeah this rocks! I've always loved Graham Bonnet and Yngwies guitar playing here is very tasteful.. skillful but not over the top. Two things that struck me was that General Hospital sounds very similar to Desert Song (MSG) and Jet to Jet to Spotlight Kid (Rainbow)
