Tracks 1-5 were recorded at Soundcheck in Birmingham, May - August 1989, without Paul Neville.

Tracks 6-10 were recorded at Square Dance in Derby, May 1989, with Paul Neville.

Tracks 11-14 are bonus tracks and were recorded for an EP called Tiny Tears that was never released.

Remastered and re-released in 2010 shipped with an extra disc with rough and original mixes from the Streetcleaner studio sessions, also rehearsal versions and live versions.

"Streetcleaner", to cut right down to it, is a thoroughly crushing, punishing, unforgiving, and unrelenting album.

The album cover itself foreshadows the content within - about a dozen bodies strewn up on crosses against a napalm-colored haze background. The music within is every bit as bleak as that image.

2010 saw the Godflesh reunite for a (marred) performance at Hellfest, and saw Earache re-release a special 2cd anniversary version of this classic with remastered versions of the original tracks on one disk, and unreleased mixes and live versions of the same track order on the second disk.

Whether the original Streetcleaner or the MMX reissue, it's a slow, crushing, claustrophobic, bleak, and asphyxiating album that will leave you roadkill.

The only Godflesh album i enjoyed thoroughly, thoroughly being quite a bit. The others just felt too clean, but I've only listened to each about twice so i might have to run back through them all

I've always preferred the s/t debut EP to this, and the pre-Godflesh stuff under the 'Fall of Because' name even more than that. Much more dense, noisy and satisfying than this I feel.



The approaches on on this vary a fair amount from plodding industrial, to punk and grind and noise rock.

Never heard their earlier stuff, which currently feels like a stupid move by me. I'm quite liking the sound of those tracks. Too much industrial, or a primarily industrial focus is a tad off-putting for me (usually). However, when you mix industrial with other genres, I find that wonderful things can happen.

I only discovered them a year or so ago. All in all, given my tastes, the sound on Fall of Because is much more my thing,

Soundtrack to a man-made apocalypse methinks.

But seriously, this is really great industrial metal. I just think a few songs would have benefited from not being extended beyond the four minute mark, but that's just me (I'm talking about "Mighty Trust Krusher" and the title track, if anyone's curious), but then again, I guess in the long run it adds to the harrowing personal experience of listening to an album like this without any outside distractions. Not my favourite industrial metal album, for sure, but still an excellent debut from one of the genre's founding fathers.

Yep it's bone crushingly heavy and the industrial sound is unforgiving. It's the perfect sound track to what it must have been like during Birmingham or Manchester's age of industrial revolution, nasty stuff!
