There's a bunch of 1994 albums that seem to fly under the radar on MS. My picks would be albums by Mangled Torsoes, Forgotten Woods, Infester, Sadistik Exekution and to a lesser extent, Gorement.
01. Kathaarian Life Code 02. In The Shadow Of The Horns 03. Paragon Belial 04. Where Cold Winds Blow 05. A Blaze In The Northern Sky 06. The Pagan Winter
What a change eh? From clean faces and jeans to all black and corpse paint. For A Blaze In The Northern Sky, Euronymous (who this album is dedicated to) worked with DarkThrone, getting them to make black metal. The sound of A Blaze In The Northern Sky is responsible for creating DarkThrone's legacy. It has been apparent on every album ever since.
One of my favourite black metal albums of all time. I know this has everything a 'true' black metal album should have(according to some of the media anyway), but that doesn't take away its power and brilliant songwriting! 'Kathaarian Life Code' is colossal and the title track just blew me away at first listen! \m/
In that time, well it was new, kick ass but now, after so many BM subgenres and bands, I don't see anything special about it. We have better bands nowadays.

Some of you may know that a first edition print of "A Blaze in the Northern Sky" has been featured at the The National Library of Norway's (Nasjonalbiblioteket ) new permanent exhibition called Enlightened.
This exhibition features highlights from Norwegian cultural history dating from the year 1100, up to the present day.
Do check out Nocturno Culto's fascinating interview with journalist and writer Harald Fossberg about the album, the scene and Darkthrone and the honour of being included in this exhibition.
The clip has subtitles in English

I feel like Kathaarian Life Code, In The Shadows Of The Horns, Where Cold Winds Blow and The Pagan Winter all could do with removing at least a minute or two, I feel like they drag on for much too long
