This is a fantastic album. Awesomeness runs strong in this one beyond my expectations even. I love how some of the songs almost reach out into gothic territories. If amidst the Sólstafir drama you are looking for a new Icelandic favourite, this should definitely be your choice.

Sólstafir linked this album on Facebook, and I'm glad I gave it a shot. Fantastic music and the sound is nothing if not purely Icelandic.

My "blackened synth metal" solo project: maladomini.bandcamp.com.

Whenever I write something funny, weird, or pretentious... I learned English by playing Baldur's Gate, okay?

If this is ambient prog metal, I'm a goddam china man. This is definitely post rock dabbing in black metal. Maybe their last album explains the genre tag but it's very misleading now. Oh, the album is very good - my kind of shit.

I don't hear any black metal in this, more of a post-punk/gothic vibe. The bass reminds me of Sisters of Mercy sometimes. Almost too soft for the "metal" tag, too. The last couple tracks are quite aggressive though.

Agreed. The genre tag is wrong though. I will have to listen to this more.

Heard the track "Í Huldusal" and was quite impressed. Great melancholic sound, and the Icelandic vocals are welcomed. Going to listen to the rest of the album now.

Edit: Very nice album indeed. Despite what the cover art purveys, the vocals are warm and melodic. The music however is chilling and embellished with gothic leanings. Favorite tracks: Breathe, Í Huldusal.

Ambient prog? 1st time hearing those two words in succession..

I've no idea why people want to label everything as prog with a prefix. Probably to imply that it's with an added flavor, or something.

Excellent journey, this album is definitely different from what I've listened so far (Í Huldusal has some really interesting moments).

Trying this now, not understanding the deal with it.. Maybe I have to give it some more tries.. Expected something along the lines of Sólstafir but was quite wrong it seems!

If you take Solstafir's latest, it kind of is along the somewhat similar lines. I didn't say it's similar, though, I just played on the implications.

I really like the gothic atmosphere on this album. It's good, if a bit soft for me.

It's a really easy-going album. Nothing groundbreaking, innovative or thought-provoking. But very, very pleasant to listen to. I think some people underrate such things sometimes.

Listening to this band for the first time was a little odd for me cause it was a mixture of some genres and the first plays u say its post rock in some places u may say gothic .
but with the few more listens i found out that i get feeling of a post rock and folk sound of them that its pretty good thing specially the folk thing . anyway heck with the genre its good and i think they didnt think much of the genre when they played .

Easy album to listen to and this is not necessary a bad thing. Too much competition in this year's best post album category

A lot of beautiful moments, but I'm not finding it amazing overall. I really want to love these Icelandic bands---Sigur Rós, Sólstafir, Katla., Kontinuum---like I love Agalloch, but I haven't yet had the experience of this peaceful, desolate, unadorned music grabbing me until I listen again and again like I did with Ashes Against The Grain all those years ago.

You're right that there's nothing "amazing" about the album, but there's something in how all the elements work together that just works very well, I think. It's a very surprising album considering how their debut sounds (which is more like semiprogressive black metal), I was glad to see people are still finding out about it.

The opening song of this album is fantastic; never quite got into the rest of it to the same level, but it's certainly got a distinctive style that doesn't nestle easily into any particular niche

"Undir Þunnu Skinni" is the second go-to track. Fantastic song. I like this album quite a lot and always listen to a full playthrough when I put it on.

I'm glad too! Discovered the band through a chain of references starting at Sólstafir. This is why I love Metal Storm.
