It's too long with unnecessary filler that it loses the interest of the listener. That being said, there are some really good songs here. My favorite is "A New Beginning". Some other good songs are "The Gift of Music", "Ravenskill" or "A Better Life". This one definitely needs repeated listens.

No doubt in my opinion the worst dream theater album, it is totally boring

Each individual disc of this album is a chore to get through; combined is mindblowingly dull. The idea of giving this repeated listens is terrifying

The Astonishing, oh boy The Astonishing... This one is uh.. A bit too long mybe ? Approximately 1 out of 3 songs is not boring and meaningless, and if they had only kept these onces we would have had a pretty decent 45 minutes long record, but they decided to go full with the concept album idea which... Didn't work out very well. What baffles me is how good the best songs are, The Path That Divides has a crushing riff and Three Days has a freaking trumpet solo and blast beats, so why are these songs lost in such a sea of mediocrity ? There is honestly close to no point to listen to the entire album, just find a good playlist and listen to a third of the songs and you'll have a much better time. 6.

It's a very good album to listen when you are doing something and want to het focus, I think al the bad reviews are like "too long" , "it's boring" "2 HOURS", OKEY it's a very long album, BUT PEOPLE REALLY THAT IS YOUR ONLY REVIEW FOR A ALBUM?????, I really like this album because is a full journey of emotion, lote of feelings.
It is not the best album of DT because he competes against incredible records, BUT TO PUT A 6, nop people this album is like a 7,5 for sure.

In one word? Meh. Just the same criticisms as everyone else. But imo a 3 is just outrageous.

The guitar tab book covers about half the tracks, all the good ones. I edited the album to match this abridged version. It is miles better.

Hahaha, literally everything I wrote before like 2021 or 2022 has aged very poorly. What I'd consider a 6 back then is probably what I'd give a 4 to today. Oh and this album also gets worse with every listen.
