Unfortunately, this album continues the watering down of Myrath's music that began on Tales of the Sands. I still liked that album quite a bit despite its more commercial sensibilities, but I can't get into this one at all.

I couldn't agree more, sad as that is.

For sure they dropped some prog, smoothed the production, and added melody/symphony.
But still I consider this an excellent album, it sounds very catchy but without songs that get stuck into your brains in annoying ways.
Anyway I hope they will not exaggerate going too far this direction for the next album...

That is a fair analysis only I just can't get into this one very much. I wouldn't get overly hopeful for a new album from these guys as they actually almost folded as a band, which is why I was even surprised to learn of this album. I am hoping that touring with Symphony X will reap them some rewards & they can get back to adding the "progressive" into their music again.

They excel during the groovier moments, but the rest is too cheesy. Tales Of The Sands was better in that respect.

Not sure if I'm a fan of this new, more accessible direction Myrath are heading in, I mean for some songs on "Legacy" it just doesn't seem to work at all. that said, there's a few excellent songs here-particularly 'Duat', which brings to mind the sort of adventurous songwriting on the band's debut album. This is still actually a good album, just not as impressive as the band's past efforts for me.

I know I'm very late to the party but some of these comments crack me up. Metal isn't just about being brutal. Metal has many layers and styles to it. Just look at glam metal for example. The people I seen talking about the brutality in metal and if it sounds like this it's pop cracks me up.

Believer is a fantastic opening but most stuff after that is kinda average. There's rarely anything that pops and when they have drawn back on the prog metal elements there aren't either any impressive passages to make it intresting.
