Once in a while there comes a time when new ways open up for music. Frontiers are being torn down and ideas can stream freely, going on a journey that takes them through many discussions and lets the creator experience both hatred and admiration. It always takes its time until a new sound is essentially established and the occasions where one can witness the birth of a new style are rare. So we are truly fortunate drunkards to live in the time where Zeal And Ardor release their second album to date, Devil Is Fine.

The album is selling like hotcakes over at Reflections Records. It seems like Johan Prenger has hit the jackpot (as far as that is possible for such a small label) with it.

Is it only available on vinyl? Because I have spent hours searching for the CD version and have not found it anywhere

I think it isn't, but I'll shoot Johan a message.

Johan already answered and this is what he said:

Quote:
No.... Not yet. It is going to be released on CD sometime but not sure who will release it and when. The band has (a lot) of offers from other (big) labels and is negotiating. Maybe I will be able to release, but maybe also not.

I haven't checked it out yet, but combining soul with black and other genres looks so stupid. i probably won't like it.

I wouldn't call it soul, more like old blues.
Why do you think it's stupid? (serious question). Black metal has plenty of history of mixing with genres outside metal by now. Check it out and see if you will like it or not.

well if its more like old blues ill probably have a better chance of liking it than soul, because i don't like soul. i like when black mixes with non metal genres, i just think mixing it with something old like soul or blues is stupid because it will be hard to find a audience. but clearly there is a big fanbase for this, and i along with many others like avant-garde styles. i haven't listened to it as of right now when im writing this, but i will find a time.

Sweet album. "Come on down" is one of my favourite songs of 2016. However, there is hardly any black metal in it (or even metal) and there are two or three fillers here, which is a lot for such a short album.

Dunno, it's annoying. Guessing he got records deals etc. and had to take them down as part of a contract or something.

He's doing a gig in Berlin in April. Will definitely be there.

Sacrilegium I has apparently changed. It sounds completely different on bandcamp and on the CD version I just got at Roadburn. It's a bit fo a shame because I really enjoyed the previous version with its' more blasphemous take on islam prayers.

I'm yet to listen to my vinyl copy (second press) since I don't have a record player set up yet... I hope the original tune is still on the vinyl version I have but I doubt it. It probably disappeared after the first press of the album. Wonder why he changed it.

Woah, so here's that new version.

Yeah defo not as good as the old one for me exactly because of what Rod said, the blasphemous islamic screams are missing.

How so? Concept-wise the previous version is 100% adequate for the vibe of the album that takes previously religious-sounding melodies and singing-styles to a blasphemous level.
Here I hear a dude saying I love you, that's it (with just a small chant at the very end that I believe might be arabic but not sure).

Just nah.

Maybe it wasn't politically correct? We all know how that works....

Anyway, it's a shame coz it was my favorite song of an otherwise meh-ish and overrated album.

^ Now THAT'S blasphemy.

Well, I think the band has a good idea with poor execution. I also can't understand the "black metal blues" marketing, there is barely any BM. I see it more as one of those successful "internet hype-train" happenings.

But anyway, do your physical copies of the album have the original Sacrilegium I ? Could a cool thing if it's the case on the first press, and rare in a few years when the original song will no longer will be found among all the re-presses and stuff.

My first press (Reflection Records) vinyl has the original Sacrilegium I. No idea if Rodrigo's repress (which is not on Reflection Records but on the label that also released the CD version) has the original version of it. But seeing that the cd version has the new version of it on it I am willing to bet that the repress vinyl also has the new version and not the original one.
