Cathal Murphy is a drummer/percussionist and teacher from Dublin.
He studied music under Gerry Murphy at Gonzaga College and received his B.Mus. from UCD in 1998 while studying at the RIAM under Richard O'Donnell. He completed his M.Mus. under Arnie Lang at the Conservatory of Music, Brooklyn College, New York in 2003.
He has played extensively in Ireland and the US, including with the National Symphony Orchestra, Manhattan and Brooklyn Symphonies, Moravian and Anastatian Philharmonics, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and with the National Youth Orchestra. He has played in Ireland, New York and Bogota, Colombia as a soloist.In addition to orchestral performance, Cathal has played with the Brooklyn College Big Band, ConCorde and John Dexter Harmony and many smaller ensembles in the US and Ireland.
Cathal currently teaches in Co. Galway and freelances as a percussionist and drummer.
