Biography
Maninnya Blade - The Swedish metal pioneers - were formed in Northern Sweden in the early 80's. The established culture community considered their music as unnecessary noise, but the band soon became known as hard working stubborn metalheads doing lots of local performances and demo recordings.
The first vinyl effort - the single "The Barbarian/Ripper Attack" - recieved overall good reviews and are now a rare collectors item. Its raw, brutal power made it more than comparable with the leading metal acts of that time.
In 1985 the band moved to Stockholm to live together in what became known as "Villa Maninnya" or "Hellhouse". The parties were just too much and the upper middleclass neighbours were stunned. Despite all this the band succeeded in signing a new record deal. The album "Merchants In Metal" was released in 1986.
A lot of gigs across the country gave the band a reputation as Swedens heaviest thrashers. The rumours of wild performances - boosted by great support from the new Swedish metal press - gave the band good attention and many fans.
Living in the same house was unfortunately not such a good idea after all. Girlfriends and differences on the everyday level tore the members apart, and the struggle for success made the rehearsals strictly business occasions. After a dispute with the English label the deal was lost.
In 1995 our metalheads found each other again on the musical level and started a reuninon project. Very, very heavy! But the time wasn't right at that time and the beast fell asleep again. Temporarily.
Eventually, in 2001 a Swedish label got in touch with the band and offered a release of old demos for the vinyl "A Demonic Mistress From The Past". The response among the old Maninnya people was positive, and suddenly they felt the odd sensation of being a cult phenomena.
The band was invited to play on a couple of festivals in 2002, among others at the all-metal festival 2000 Decibel in company with some of the leading contemporary Swedish metal bands. A great honour and a great success!
In 2005 the band signed a deal with Brasilian label Marquee Records and in 2006 an exclusive 2cd compilation "Undead, Unborn, Alive" was released worldwide. It contained all previoulsy released material, unknown demos and live tracks from the 2002 reunion. An epitaph of the things that was. A collectors item for those who want just everything there is.
Recordings of brand new material were made in 2007. Material for a full album was written, but only three tracks made it to the recording studio. And the beast is again asleep.
What happens next? Who knows? The future is yet to come...
