Valkyrium - Biography

Biography

Valkyrium is an American mystical pagan metal band with a melodic edge from the San Fernando Valley that officially formed in October 2013.

The band was founded and arranged by singer/guitarist/songwriter Nikki Kegan and drummer Justin Day making them the starting force of this band. Shortly after, singer/bass player/songwriter Jenny Rose and singer/lead guitarist/songwriter William Cota joined Valkyrium completing the band with a wide combined variety of musical chemistry.

Valkyrium incorporates the sounds of mystical, melodic, pagan, black, progressive, and death metal while diving into the realms of heavy metal/rock. This well blended mix of metal includes death growls, opera clean vocals, 80's heavy metal screams, acoustic guitar passages, heavy death metal breakdowns, dark black metal guitar arpeggio grinding, melodic speed metal solo's/scales, speed/black metal blast beats, and mystical keyboard pathways.

Valkyrium was founded by Nikki Kegan in early 2011 and manifested in April 2013 with Justin Day. Nikki began her musical path at an early age teaching herself and taking lessons whenever she could. Nikki was led to bring forth this new journey into her life after parting ways with her former band "The Wretched" in 2010. Nikki's lyrics and riffs are passionately inspired from a blackened/death metal background.

In March 2013 Justin Day claimed his throne as the drummer for Valkyrium. Justin also began his music career at an early age, originating from an extensive background in hard rock, progressive metal and classic rock. Justin felt the need to shift into a heavier path in the music industry. After the first band practice with Nikki, Justin knew his path was set forth to metal. Justin is a very active drummer bringing in new ideas to Valkyrium, and also shares his insights on music writing by playing it on guitar.

Jenny Rose started her music career at an early age taking classes in school, teaching herself how to sing, and practicing the 5 string arts known as bass. Jenny was also taught and motivated to play bass by her father David (Whitehorse featuring Motley Crue's, Mick Mars). Since then Jenny has performed in several bands and realized she needed to be a part of something more heavier and intricate. After walking in on the early Valkyrium band practices, she then realized this was where her talents would be focused on. The musical chemistry with the band fit in all entirety, releasing her singing/bass abilities to a whole new level.

William Cota joined the band in early October 2013. William, also known as "Di' Brom Death", originally started his music career as the front-man/guitarist/vocalist for the band "Eden's Onslaught" back in 2004. After listening to the current Valkyrium pre-production, William knew exactly what kind of leads and additional guitar chemistry was needed to take Valkyrium to the next level. William was taught music at an early age learning several instruments, making guitar his weapon of choice. His abilities were then strengthened in college after taking classical/flamenco guitar classes (from Professor Stephen F. Jones) that enhanced his finger picking abilities. Vocal wise he was taught vocal techniques in college (from Professor Anne Marie Ketchum) which then fine tuned his singing into precision. William throughout the years has shared the stage with various national/international bands and performed on mostly all of Hollywood's/southern California's premier venues. William continues to perform with both of his bands taking on show after show.
