Biography
Old Season is a Heavy Metal band hailing from Ireland. Their music has been described as Doom-Laden Irish Heavy Metal. They are based in Athy, Co.Kildare.
The band formed in Dublin in 2003 from the ashes of Karnayna, comprising of Frank Brennan (Vocals), Jimmy Blanchfield (Guitar), Philip Mahony (Guitar), Dermod Smyth (Keyboards/Piano), Ciaran O'Neill (Bass) and Anto Walsh (Drums). After playing several shows across Ireland including the Day Of Darkness 2004, the band made their first recordings with James Connolly temporarily filling on the Drums.
Volume One was released in 2005, which saw the band hitting the stage, playing many key dates including supporting Skyforger on their Irish tour and playing with the likes of Obituary, Twisted Tower Dire, Anvil, Slough Feg etc.
At the end of 2006, Old Season and Phillip Mahony mutually decided to part ways. The remaining members soldiered on, hiring Ciaran Doyle as a replacement for Mahony, playing several shows including Up The Hammers 2007 in Athens, Greece. In June 2007 came further line-up changes as it was announced that Ciaran O'Neill was no longer in the lineup. The following September it was announced that Dave Copley had been hired as O'Neill's replacement. After a handfull of shows including a triumphant appearance at the Day Of Darkness 2008 festival, the band laid low for the rest of 2008 to finalise material for their second release.
In June 2007 came further line-up changes as it was announced that Ciaran O'Neill was no longer in the lineup. The following September it was announced that Dave Copley had been hired as O'Neill's replacement.
After a handfull of shows including a triumphant appearance at the Day Of Darkness 2008 festival, the band laid low for the rest of 2008 to finalise material for their second release.
In February 2009 the band entered Foel Studios in Wales with producer Chris Fielding to record what would be their second release. Archaic Creation was released on September 25th 2009 and comprised eight tracks. The band went on to play several shows including "The Siege of Limerick 2", the "Hammer of Doom 3" festival in Wurzburg, Germany, supported Saint Vitus in "The Baroeg" Rotterdam and played the Tribute to Ronnie James Dio in Belfast.
In November 2010 it was announced that Frank Brennan had departed the lineup. Ciaran Doyle followed in February 2011. The band carried on writing new material and auditioning guitarists and singers, with Jimmy Kiernan joining the lineup in June 2011. In August 2013 John Bonham joined the band on vocals. The new lineup was announced in November 2013.
