Biography
Valediction are a metal band based in Dublin, Ireland. The band plays a technical style of metal strong on heavy riffs, well-defined melody and screaming solos with a dark edge and symphonic leanings.
Valediction was formed in 2005 and steadily recruited members over the following two years until the line-up was completed and a live set prepared in 2007. The band's live debut came about in support of Mass Extinction at the album release gig for their Creations Undoing EP.
The band gigged extensively around Ireland for the next two years, sharing the stage with a mixture of other Irish bands and international acts. In early 2009 the band went on a brief hiatus while looking for a new singer. Martin O'Hanrahan was eventually chosen as the band's new frontman and the band subsequently pursued a darker, heavier sound with a switch to growled vocals and a change in songwriting style.
In 2008 Valediction supported Thurisaz at 2 of their 3 gigs in Ireland (Dublin and Cork), Vreid in Dublin and later in the same year Valediction supported Firewind and Kiuas at their gig in Whelans (Dublin). The band also performed at Cork Winterfest in December 2008 alongside such bands as Amon Amarth, Skyclad, Mourning Beloveth and Mass Extinction.
Valediction produced a 4-track demo in 2008 that had a limited release at some gigs.
The band's full-length debut, The Primitive Architecture, was released in February of 2011.
In late 2012, singer Martin O'Hanrahan, guitarist Stephen Hughes and drummer David Ryan left the band and where replaced by Lucas Nolan Synnott (Vocals), Eoin Dullaghan (Guitar) and Brian Grieco (Drums).
