Gjenferdsel - Biography

Biography

2002:
In year 2002, Iudex had some visions for an upcoming black metal band. He decided to put his ideas into existence, and named it GJENFERDSEL. The band was supposed to be built on strong ideologies, individualism, and to have its root in the Norwegian nature and origin.

2003:
He got in contact with Iratus, which handled the drums. The first song was created, and the potential and ambitions made the duo continue rehearsing

2004:
In 2004, the conceptual demo "Det kom et skip til Björgvin..." was released. The demo was based upon the black plague, how it arrived in Norway, and how the conditions in Norway were back in 1349. The response on the demo was mostly positive, especially outside the nordic countries the response was overwhelming. Even now, the demo is heavily requested as it is out of stock, and very hard to find.

After the recording of the demo, GJENFERDSEL started to create material for the next release, which was going to be recorded in a studio.

2005:
In early 2005, Invictus joined the band as a session/live bassist to fulfill GJENFERDSEL as a live band. A bit later, Iudex figured out that he needed more improvement, and wanted to evolve the band. Drastic changes had to be made and he broke with Iratus. Invictus replaced him as a drummer, which advanced the band musically. The band was signed on the German label Ketzer Records for a record-deal

2006:
nfestus joined the band as a session bassist in early 2006 as the final piece in GJENFERDSEL. This made the band ready for live-shows, but also for the planned studio session. Their first gigs were performed, and their debut album "I" was recorded in Space Valley Studio in late march, and later released September 22th the same year. The band received a lot of positive response on their album.

2007:
A lot of effort was spent to promote the debut album. This was maybe the most important year for GJENFERDSEL. The band was booked to play at Walpurgis Metal Days in Germany, together with bands such as Ensiferum, Legion of the Damned, Unleashed etc. The band received good critics from both audience and press.

2008:
This year started out with a festival-gig in Holland, a very succesful one. In media Gjenferdsel was said to be the best act at the festival. Except from this gig, and some few gigs in the summer, the year was pretty silent for the band, which gave them the opportunity to rehearsal for the second album.

Later this year, Infestus decided to quit the band. He wanted to focus more on other genres, so both the band and him agreed it was the best for both parts to end the cooperation.

2009:
GJENFERDSEL entered studio again to record their second release, entitled "VARDE". This time they used Juv Musikk as studio, and the lineup consisted only of Iudex and Invictus. A lot of the material had already existed for years, and was ready to be recorded for the masses.

During this year, the band also recorded a video for their song "Illverk"
