Threat Signal - Enter The Studio This Week

Canadian metallers Threat Signal will enter the studio this weekend to begin recording their as-yet-untitled third album with producer Chriss "Zeuss" Harris.

The band issued the following statement: "On June 12th we are driving our asses out to Massachusetts to begin tracking our 3rd release with metal mastermind Zeuss. He has worked on many killer albums from bands such as Chimaira, Hatebreed, All That Remains, The Acacia Strain, Born Of Osiris, Shadows Fall, and many more... We are extremely excited to have Zeuss on board producing and mixing our new record!

So what can you expect from the new Threat Signal record? Well... basically we said let's write the heaviest fuckin record we possibly can. We've been experimenting with 7 string guitars and drop tunings since the early days, so we have decided to write almost the whole new record that way. We are headed back to the Under Reprisal days but with bigger balls.'

Barren Earth - Have Entered The Studio

Finland's progressive death/doom metal band Barren Earth have entered Helsinki's Sonic Pump Studios to record the follow-up to last year's highly acclaimed debut album, Curse of the Red River.

The band has written 12 new songs, and is currently laying them down with engineer/co-producer Jukka Varmo. Dan Swanö (Katatonia, Opeth) will once again be at the mixing helm. The tracks mainly continue in the vein of the previous record, having perhaps even more 70's prog influences, but maintaining the basic heaviness and brutality one has come to associate with Barren Earth.

The album is due for release in autumn 2011 on Peaceville Records,

Danish metallers Hatesphere have issued the following update on their MySpace blog:

"We have booked the Antfarm Studio, Aarhus, Denmark, from June 13th in order to make you a new album! Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Sick Of It All) will be guiding us through it, hopefully without getting too many grey hairs! Tue has been working with us on four of our releases - and we look forward to doing it once again!!
A little funny anecdote: Tue actually produced our second demo Disconnected '97 back in 1997 as one of his first productions... and this was an actual demo tape! Those were the days."

A late 2011/early 2012 release is expected.

"The new album will most likely be a culmination of The Gathering (1999) and The Formation of Damnation, but we're definitely not going to forget who we are or our roots. I think we've found a comfortable spot in our writing style," Testament vocalist Chuck Billy stated in a 2010 interview.

Thin Lizzy - Considering New Studio Album

Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham told Billboard.com that it may be time to bring his band back into the studio again.

Thin Lizzy hasn't released a new album since 1983's Thunder and Lightning and certainly have not thought about it since iconic frontman Phil Lynott's death in 1986. But according to the Billboard interview, guitarist Gorham - who was with the group from 1974-83 and has led various configurations of reconstituted Thin Lizzys since 1996 - thinks that the current line-up may just be good enough to try to add some music to the Lizzy legacy.

Said Gorham: "That's the No. 1 question we're getting from people ? are we gonna record some new material? The fans seem to trust this line-up, and I don't blame them. We've kind of jumped this emotional hurdle together. Ricky's writing some fucking killer lyrics, and with the kind of talent that's in Thin Lizzy now I think we can pull off a really cool set of tunes. At least it's something that we can think about now, where before it wasn't on the table."

Aborted - Enter The Studio In June

Belgian death metal veterans Aborted will begin recording their seventh full-length record to date from June onwards at the infamous Hansen Studios with producer Jacob Hansen (Invocator, Hatesphere, Volbeat).

The band will be tracking over 15 tracks of the most brutal and intense material they have written to date. The sonic onslaught - baptized as Global Flatline - will contain 12 tracks with additional bonus material featured on limited editions.

The artwork for Global Flatline will once again be handled by Justin Osbourne who previously worked with the band on its 2010 EP Coronary Reconstruction as well. Since 2011 marks the ten year anniversary of Aborted's Engineering The Dead record, the band decided to re-record two tracks of the album as part of the bonus material for Global Flatline. You can vote for your favorite Engineering the Dead songs on the band's Facebook Page.

Vocalist, founder and gurgloroth Sven de Caluwé comments: "We are thrilled to be finally recording Global Flatline and have the material out there. It is exciting in many ways, one being that this might be one of the most important records Aborted's career. We really took our time in composing the most heavy and uncompromising material the band has written to date. Some of the material is faster than ever, some of the material is slower than ever, some old school and some new school, inspired by all eras of Aborted, yet still sounding unique on its own.
Writing this record definitely took us back to the roots of why we started playing this kind of music in the first place, the passion and adrenaline you get from playing extreme metal.

Obviously it just isn't a carbon copy of Goremageddon or Engineering The Dead or anything: there are plenty of new elements as well since we never believe in writing the same record. Those who checked out Coronary Reconstruction have had a small taste of what's to come and we can guarantee you you won't be disappointed with Global Flatline! We are also very excited to be working again with Jacob Hansen, the man produced Goremageddon and The Haematobic EP and it was always a pleasure to work with him then, so this should be a blast."
