The first ever Rock In Rio USA has announced the first acts that will perform in Las Vegas next year. Metallica and Deftones have both been confirmed to perform. Metallica will headline the Main Stage while Deftones will be headlining the Sunset Stage.

One year ago, Deftones bassist Chi Cheng passed away after a prolonged coma caused by a car accident back in 2008. The band has now posted online a previously unreleased track called "Smile" in the first anniversary of his passing. You can stream the track on the YouTube clip below. The song is thought to be from the band's shelved album Eros, which was originally put aside after Cheng's tragic accident.

In terms of new material, Deftones' frontman Chino Moreno has confirmed in an interview with Soundwave TV that the writing sessions have begun for their new album. In a sad twist of events, Deftones' bassist Chi Cheng passed away at the hospital last night due to a heart attack after showing apparent signs of improvement in his recovery following a terrible car accident back in 2008 which left him with brain damage, then falling into a coma. He was 42.

Deftones have announced that their seventh studio album and follow-up to Diamond Eyes will be called Koi No Yokan, which is set for release on November 13th. The album was recorded in Los Angeles with Nick Raskulinecz (Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters, Rush) who also produced Diamond Eyes. "Beauty School" comes off the band's latest album, called Diamond Eyes, which was released in May last year.

To commemorate "Record Store Day" on April 16th, Deftones will be releasing a special vinyl collection of cover songs, imaginatively titled Covers.

This LP is a collection of classic Deftones' cover tracks, pressed together on limited edition vinyl for the first time ever. Only 3K of these will be produced. The set spans a wide range of genres, including covers from artists The Cure, Drive Like Jehu, The Cars, The Smiths, Lynryd Skynrd and Duran Duran.
