Leng Tch'e - Studio Update, First Songtitles Revealed

Leng Tch'e are at the halfway mark of the mixing process for our next album so the band figured it would be time to give you guys a little update on how things are going here amidst the rustic scenery of Kettering, UK. The update reads as follows:

"After a seven hour drive across three countries we arrived at Parlour Studio to be greeted by our gracious host Russ Russell. A quick trip to the local supermarket later to stock up on basic supplies (designer water and baby oil) we were back at the studio and setting up our gear so Russ could start dialing in the brutal deathmetal sounds from hell. Towards the evening we settled on a duo of guitar amps - no we're not gonna tell you which ones - and the rest of the night was spent re-amping the guitar lines we recorded back in Belgium. It must be said that Mr Russell is one of the most dedicated and hard working producers we've ever met. And a funny little hairy bastard as well.

The next day we looked for a bass sound and once again Russ was floored by the awesomeness of our gear. Fuck yeah! In the evening we went down to London to catch a Burnt By The Sun show which was pretty fucking awesome, despite the amps acting all English and breaking down every other song. Friday and Saturday we worked on the vocals, in the meantime getting fat and lazy on a steady diet of veggie dogs and obscure English beers. So now it's Sunday, we're even fatter and lazier than when we got here after devouring a ridiculous amount of Chinese food yesterday and Russ has started on the mix of the first songs.

To lift part of the veil, here are some (working) song titles with a short musical description:

"Worldwide Genocide": Probably the opening song. Begins with a fast (surprise!) grind riff followed by a hardrock riff. Why? Because we can.

"Wirehead Imbeciles": Starts out as a grind song and then breaks down into a moshing doom riff if that makes any sense, followed by a swinging d-beat part.

"A.men": Short but sweet grind song with a catchy as fuck hardcore chorus.

And then there's the 9 minute final opus... no we're not kidding this time. This song has a groovy intro, about a minute of grindcore mayhem, a heavy deathmetal riff, a bunch of swinging I-don't-know-what-to-call-them riffs, finally ending in a seemingly neverending spiral of crushing doom.

And that's a fact!"

Kiuas - To Enter Studio Next Month

Finnish Power metallers Kiuas have issued the following update:

"So, it's been a while since we've informed you of our comings and goings on, and there have been some questions and speculations as to what Kiuas is up to, or are we up to anything...

Well, fear not my comrades! To make a long story short: We'll be entering the studio no later than in the end of November, and start recording our fourth full-length studio album. There are about 10 new masterpieces almost completely written, which we are polishing and finetuning as I write these words. The album is set to be released in March 2010 in Finland, other areas TBA. Naturally this is and has been the reason for not doing gigs for a while, since the writing, arranging and practing of the songs demands our full focus. After the release, we will start touring, the dates will be announced once confirmed (but hold your horses until next year, kids!).

As to what can you expect: expect nothing and everything! After all, making a Kiuas record is like pouring dragon egg yolk, absinth and Tabasco into Frank Zappa's mouth while he's asleep and asking him to write a symphony about the dreams he had when he wakes up... although, ...well anyway... Or, going out with the members of Kiuas: you never know what's gonna happen."

Armored Saint - To Enter The Studio

Armored Saint are set to enter Tranzformer Studios in Burbank, CA to begin recording the band's 6th full-length studio album. Tranzformer Studios is owned by Dave Jerdan (Alice In Chains, Jane's Addiction, etc) who produced Armored Saint's 1991 classic "Symbol of Salvation" and Bryan Carlstrom who handled engineering on the same album. The Saint will be working with Bryan Carlstrom who will once again handle engineering duties with the bands very own Joey Vera producing, and both Joey and Bryan mixing the record. A partial song list for the upcoming album, which is expected to hit streets in the spring 2010 is: "Black Feet", "Chilled", "Loose Cannon", "Blues", "La Raza", "Head On", "Get off the Fence", "Left Hook From Right Field".

Here's what Armored Saint vocalist John Bush had to say about how the new album came together: "About a year and a half or so ago Joey asked me if I'd be interested in writing some songs. I was in the right mind finally, so I said send me something. To be quite honest, I wasn't thinking in terms of Armored Saint but more like just writing rock music. I felt pretty free with that mentality and the ideas felt very organic. With every passing song things improved and next thing we knew we had about eight songs demoed. Although the idea of sparking something completely new was appealing it became clear that if it was Joey and I the reality was, let's not kid ourselves; this is Armored Saint. So here it comes. Embracing my inner R&B singer and coupling that with our influence of the great seventy's hard rock band's we grew up on."

Armored Saint bassist Joey Vera comments: "John and I began writing over 14 months ago and in the beginning we had only a general musical direction in which we were going. Once we decided to keep writing and with more of an intention of turning it into an Armored Saint project, we were faced with a few questions. One was, how does this new music we're writing fit into the current musical styles of today? And should we care? We quickly answered the latter. We realized we should do what we always did and that is to write good songs. And for ourselves first. We are not unaware of our parameters in which we have created over the past 25 years, but we are also not afraid to take chances and simply do what we do best. The idea of trying to continue where we left off over 10 years ago since our last release is not very appealing to me. I have to let go of what I did in 1991 and in 2000. Nothing at all against what we've recorded in the past but my head is in a different place now. Trust me; I still want to kill your senses with music, but just in a different way."

As I Lay Dying - To Enter Studio Next Month

Vocalist Tim Lambesis has issued the following update on behalf of As I Lay Dying:

"Songwriting has been going well with about 6-7 songs done. We decided to officially start recording the new As I Lay Dying album on October 17. At that point we'll record as many songs as we can and then finish the album around the new year. I think this will be a good way to spread out our songwriting since most of our previous records have always been written within a few months."

Mnemic - Enter The Studio

Danish metallers Mnemic have entered the studio to begin recording their 4th studio album, entitled "Sons Of The System" for a January 2010 release via Nuclear Blast Records.

The band states: "After a minor 2 year break from touring, we have returned to the studio, to record 15 brand new tracks. Our batteries are re-charged and we are extremely excited to let you all hear the new stuff. The material it self is a mixture of grind, rock, polyrhytmics, electronics and represents the sound of a more mature Mnemic, at least in our humble opinion. Compared to the last album, the recordings will be kept completely on Danish soil. This time we are more within our own comfort zone, and will be working with the same dude that made us 2 great sounding albums in the past, which is none other than Tue Madsen, who is a really good friend and a great producer. The drums will be tracked at the Antfarm Studio, while guitars, bass and vocals will be immortalized at the bands own studio, under Tue's supervision. At the end of the recording process, electronics, mix and mastering will then again be handled at the Antfarm Studios. During the recording process we will try to keep you all updated on the progress via this location."

Nominon - Part Ways With Vocalist, Studio Update

Swedish metallers Nominon have issued the following update on their MySpace blog:

"Greetings people, fans and fiends of the Grotesque.

We're now almost done with the drum tracks at the renowned Necromorbus Studios. It all sounds massive and rotten, there's just no other way! The drum room starts to reek of Perras creativity and I guess he soon for sure are worthy of his price, it comes bottled from Scotland! Mixed with Atlanta/Georgias pride: Coca Cola, he'll enjoy the rest of his time in the studio!

We have some news from the tomb for you all! The drums are now done and put on tape, I guess, 'cause why else would Perra be sitting here beside me, the editor of death, and enjoying his whiskey and coke?

Today the tormented voice of Juha has ended up on a couple of songs too, yes, that means we've started to record the vokills, it all sounds really promising. We can't wait to let you guys and gals listen to this! And by now you should all understand that Daniel is not participating on this recording or the future of Nominon!

Enjoy the mutilation!"

Darkthrone - Enter The Studio In October

Ted "Nocturno Culto" "Kveldulv" Skjellum of Darkthrone has issued the short following update on his own MySpace blog:

"This night of the late October...

...The Darkside opens it's gates... ok, enough of "Under A Funeral Moon", but really, late October will see Darkthrone through the last recording "session" for the new album, we've had a long summerbreak now and it's time to face winter/death. Right, and Abscess is recording the last release on Tyrant's label mid October, and this should be jawdropping greatness. Mark my words.

Apart from that my soul nearly explodes this autumn."

Katatonia - Studio Update

Swedish metallers Katatonia have issued the following update on their MySpace blog:

"It's hard to believe, but it's a fact - the rathole sessions are over, we're done! David "King rat of the rathole" Castillo, Jonas and me have spent the longest studio sessions this far with nearly every hour of the day (or night) since we finished up with the vocals. Picture this: Mix down, reference listening, un-do, re-do, mix down, reference listening, repeat x 100. There's always something you find to correct, whether it's one drum hit that's not loud enough, or a backing harmony that doesn't cut through, or a frequency in the bass that makes the rathole sound like a steamboat, yeah basically hundreds of things that fight for their position and balance in the sound picture. One song even reached a staggering 136 (!) active tracks. That's quite a contrast to the days were we were given 16 tracks for the whole package. Everything has to be optimized and you end up going back and forth improving and updating versions of the mix to replace the previous efforts and you can do this for eternity, unless you have a deadline. We just managed to complete the mix at the very last day and let me tell you, the album sounds fan-fukkin-tastic! It's heavy, punchy and crunchy. It sounds very 3D in headphones. We put this album back to back with a couple of other band's albums and it is either right up there sideways with them, or it simply sits with it's azz on their faces. Crushed!

The last two days was spent on the final stage - mastering with Jens Bogren twiddling on his knobs down Fascination Street in Örebro, while we were stand-by in the rathole for urgent repairs an reference listening.

Uploading and downloading the files of the whole production via ftp enabled us to communicate and do the same things we normally would, but now in two different towns. Can't say no to ez living for the hard working modern man. After about 4 attempts, we got there. The album has now been approved by everyone. It got the green light and now in peaceville's hands. Our work is done, yet it has only just begun. On Saturday the band will hook up and we'll have a private pre-listening session with some of our friends and colleagues and celebrate we're done! Then on Monday we'll have an official pre-listening session all day as Peaceville will fly in journo's from the daily papers, music magazines and radio stations from around Europe. A few photo sessions will round up that night. Then next week it's time for the mini-site to go online. Are you ready?

Detonation - Will Enter The Studio This Weekend

Detonation will begin recording their 4th studio album this weekend. Vocalist Koen Romeijn states:

"This weekend, Michiel (a.k.a. "Plicht") will kick off the pre-production of our 4th studio album. He's got the weekend scheduled to record all the drum tracks for 9 new, brutal songs. In the producers' chair we have our good friend Harry van Breda (I-Chaos).

After this, Michiel will start touring across the world with God Dethroned until mid November. So in the meantime, we will work on the recordings, and get this thing rolling again. Can't wait to get into that whole recording process again, it's been almost 3 years since we recorded "Emission Phase", so it's about time goddamnit!

So what can I tell you about the new stuff? Well, first of all it's fucking brutal! You could say that we changed our sound into something new. It still has Detonation written all over it, but this stuff is way more intense, faster, more metal and just better sounding than before. Michiel's drums are sick, Mike's riffs even sicker, and my vocals the sickest I have ever produced haha!

Some of the songtitles are "Feeding On The Madness", "Ruptured", "Insults To My Heritage" and "The Thirst To Slaughter". Stay tuned for more news!"

Hour Of Penance - To Enter Studio This Month

Italian metallers Hour Of Penance have issued the following update on their MySpace blog:

"Hour Of Penance will enter "16th Cellar" studio in Rome on August 27th with Stefano Morabito as sound engineer to start tracking the instruments of their fourth yet untitled new album, follower of the highly acclaimed 2008's "The Vile Conception" released by the renowned Unique Leader Records.

Commented frontman and guitar player Giulio Moschini: "After less then a year of songwriting we're finally ready to hit the studio and record the new album. We're very satisfied with the results of the songwriting sessions, everything went smooth and all the songs came out in a spontaneous way. We have enough material to record almost two albums but as we did with the previous album "The Vile Conception", only the best 10 songs will appear on the new opus. This time we will work with Stefano Morabito to get a more "live" approach and a more natural sound to the new album which will embrace a lot of new and different features from the past releases. I'm sure our loyal fans will not be disappointed when they hear the final result!"

More details about mixing, artwork, title and tracklist of the new Hour Of Penance album will follow soon. Meanwhile check out the bands MySpace page."

Finntroll - To Enter Studio Next Week

Finnish metallers Finntroll have issued the following update:

"Sonic Pump Studios is under attack!

Monday, July 27th, 2009 will be remembered as the "Day Of Wrath", when the sky rained fire and molten plague. And also because Finntroll will enter Sonic Pump Studios to start the recordings of our... hmm, fifth...? I guess so, yet-untitled album.

We will try to keep you guys informed about the nasty stuff we do there via diary or even a video diary (gasp!) to see how badly it goes.

And for the record, all confirmed gigs will be played, so no need to worry about that."

In other news, as previously reported here, Finntroll filmed and recorded a recent show at the world-famous Melkweg in Amsterdam, for an as-yet-untitled DVD, which will be released in September via Spinefarm Records.
