Devildriver - Bassist To Sit Out Upcoming Tours

Devildriver bassist Jonathan Miller won't be joining the band on tour in early 2011 as he will be following a rehabilitation program. Miller released the following statement:

"To all DevilDriver fans and friends, I wanted to give you an update on my status as far as my health is concerned.

Regarding the past 2 European tours, I was either forced to leave by my own accord or asked to leave by my band/managment.

I have been touring with DevilDriver for almost the past ten years and the drugs and alcohol have finally caught up with me. I realized this when I ended up in the ICU on my birthday last week.

I need to make a change so that I can save my own life and keep the friends that I still have left.

I know that alot of DevilDriver fans seek me out first as the one to party with because I consider myself a very social person who is quite outgoing, personable and friendly.

That was all fun in my 20′s touring with the band, but as I am entering my early 30′s I can feel the damage catching up with me mentally and physically. I don't want to burn out prematurely before my time on this Earth is up.

On January 1st I will be entering an intense rehabilitation program in order for me to reclaim my health and the person who I once was.

I will not be doing the Canadian tour in January or the Australian tour in February and March. This is for my own good. I need to come out of rehab with a sound body and mind. After I complete my rehabilitation I hope to see all DevilDriver friends and family as soon as I can."

Omen - Part Ways With Singer

Long-running US power metallers Omen have parted ways with vocalist George Call (who also sings in US power metal band Aska).

Commented Omen mainman/guitarist Kenny Powell: "I loved George singing for Omen and I have great respect for him. However, I made a commitment to Omen and myself three years ago to try and do the final three Omen records equal to the first three. I was 53 at the time, I am now 56 and want to accomplish every thing possible before my skills start to diminish. At this rate I will get my first social security check before I finish a new Omen record. It is simply not acceptable for me to wait any longer... At this point in time I must put Omen above anything else.

The new record is finally moving forward, and the great thing for me is that it is going to be even better than I thought possible. Matt Story is doing the vocals. He was the person that I wanted all along, but it was not possible because of other commitments. He has a great voice and has time to do the Omen CD now. He has been here every time I have asked and busted his ass to three and four in the morning without a single complaint.

I honestly feel that Hammer Damage will shock the metal world. Look for the new CD by early spring, and then we can start touring again. I think Greece should be the first stop!"

Children Of Bodom - Album Details Unveiled, Teasers Online

Official press release

Children Of Bodom, the hard partying Finnish Heavy Metal band that features frontman and modern-day guitar hero Alexi Laiho will release its new album Relentless Reckless Forever on March 8, 2011 via Universal Music.

Recorded in Finland's Petrax Studios with famed rock producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Monster Magnet), Relentless Reckless Forever is the seventh studio album of Children Of Bodom's illustrious career and the first new record from the band since 2008's Blooddrunk, which debuted at #22 on Billboard's Top 200 Chart and scored the quintet its third consecutive #1 debut in Finland. On Relentless Reckless Forever, COB's high-energy hooks and electric energy forge stadium-sized heavy metal anthems that seethe with both marvelous musicianship and a phenomenal pop prowess. The quintet's unique union of haunting melodies, rhythmic sensibility, guitar-and-keyboard interplay and king-size solos is supercharged to the maximum, and the resulting record is poised to push the band - already on the brink of breakout success in the U.S. - to an altogether new pinnacle.

"We worked super hard on this album, at least for me it was pretty much no sleep or rest for six weeks," stated Laiho. "But we were determined to make the best COB album ever, so we were willing to do whatever it took. Of course, having our producer Matt Hyde kicking our asses 24/7 definitely made the results even better, so obviously we're more than anxious to get this album out there"

The first single and video from Relentless Reckless Forever is "Was it Worth It?". COB shot a high energy music video for the track, joining forces with two-time X Games gold medalist and two-time Thrasher Magazine "Skater of the Year" Chris Cole as well as noted pro skaters Jamie Thomas, Garrett Hill and Tom Asta (the current #1 Amateur skateboarder in the world). Filmed on location at central Pennsylvania's residential Action Sports compound Camp Woodward and directed by Dale Resteghini for Raging Nation Films (Pink Floyd, Santana, Mötley Crüe), the video was shot guerrilla style, sans treatment; honing in directly on Children Of Bodom's high-spirited fire and the skaters' eye-opening execution.

"The single "Was It Worth It?" is a total party song, said Laiho. "It's not your typical Bodom sound, but it's one of my favorites and heavy as hell." Watch a short trailer below.

Control Denied - Update On Sophomore Release

Control Denied vocalist Tim Aymar has issued a very, very lengthy update on the completion of When Machine And Man Collide - the band's long-awaited sophomore release.

Before you start reading, here's a short recap I took from Blabbermouth: as you all know, Chuck Schuldiner began work on the album, but never managed to finish the effort before his health quickly deteriorated in the months leading up to his tragic death, in December 2001. The remaining members of the group subsequently announced their desire to complete the album and release it in Chuck's memory, but legal hassles between Schuldiner's family and Hammerheart Records (to whom Chuck was signed at the time of his death) put the entire project on hold. But now the family of late Death/Control Denied guitarist is moving ahead with plans to complete and eventually release the long-awaited second album.

Or as Tim Aymar explains in great detail:

"On December 13th we will once again take at least a few moments of our day to remember the "Father Of Death Metal", Chuck Schuldiner. Those who know Chuck's music from Death and Control Denied have faithfully and patiently awaited the announcement of the completion of Chuck's dying wish which is to get the final Control Denied record out to you , and along with my other band-mates, I am extremely happy to be here to fulfill the promise I made a decade ago.

When I first talked to Chuck about auditioning for a new band he was working on, an extension of his former band Death which he called Control Denied. We first talked over the telephone, and he was not at all like what I had expected him to be. My band-mate, co-writer and dear friend Jimmy Dofka from Psycho Scream had turned me on to Death a few months before, and the picture I had in my mind of Chuck, judging only by how precise and beautifully violent that music is, was of a brutal tyrant. I mean after-all, just listen to Gene Hoglan's drumming and the command of Chuck's blood soaked screaming, and you'll know what I mean. Well, I was delightfully wrong. The voice on the phone was just a guy like me, an easy going, slow talking hippie with a burning passion for metal. We both understood the seriousness of the business at hand, but neither of made it seem anything but exiting and fun, and that was awesome. That's just what professionals do.

We talked about our tastes in music and inspirations and our idols. We were definitely on the same page. He said he wanted me to audition because from what he'd heard already from Psycho Scream, my voice had all the qualities he had been looking for since he began his journey into metal. There's a bit of everyone we both liked in there, a bit of Dio, Halford, Tyler, Gillan, Bonnet, all the best screamers in the biz. With that in mind, we set a date and I flew down to meet him and do the audition. I thought maybe there was a chance he was blowing a bit of smoke up my ass, because that's just what some people do. But no, as it turns out, he was one of the few people in this biz that didn't.

Dalriada - More Details On Upcoming New Album

Taken from the Wretched Spawn blog

Hungarian extreme folk metal band Dalriada have recently finished recording their new studio album Igéret; which is pegged for a release date of February 11th, 2011 through AFM Records.

Fronted by vocalist Laura Binder, Dalriada are known for their use of poetry and European folktales in their lyrics; along with their incorpation of traditional Hungarian melodies and instruments into their sound.

Igéret, which is the seventh full-length in their discography; is said to feature not only feature instruments like the kobza and doublebass but also include appearances from fellow countrymen Fajkusz Band and Korpiklanni's Jonne Järvelä. In an official press statement on their website, the band have added that his guest performance shall be to sing sections of the epic "Kalevala" in Finnish; which compliments Dalriada's own choice to sing in Hungarian.

Although teasers of the lyrics are not yet available, it has been mentioned that the song material for the new album will be centred on melodies from the Carpathian basin of Central Europe; including a 450 year old song played with its original words and orchestration.

The cover artwork was already revealed earlier and can be watched here.

System Of A Down - Comeback Tour Planned For 2011?

Original news, published on 20.11.2010

So it's starting to look like System Of A Down are planning a string of reunion gigs in 2011... which is excellent news (and if you can't accept that go fuck yourself, ed.). Anyway, here's the copy from Blabbermouth:

According to the official blog of Francis Zégut, host of the show "Pop Rock Station" on the French radio station RTL2, System Of A Down will perform at the Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy in Paris, France on June 6, 2011. This is expected to be one of many gigs the reunited band will play in Europe during next summer's festival season. An official announcement on the matter, with more details about the group's future plans, could come as early as next week.

More dates announced soon.

UPDATE

System Of A Down's much-rumored comeback/reunion tour is expected to be announced on Monday, November 29 - or so Blabbermouth tells me - along with details of several European festival appearances in 2011, likely including Download Festival.

In the words of bassist Shavo, "Stay tuned".
