Nervecell - Completes Writing New Album

Dubai-based death metallers Nervecell have finished writing the songs for their next studio album. The recordings will take place somewhere next month. The band issued the following update:

"We are really thrilled that the writing process for the new album has been successfully completed and the band is eager to enter the studio next month and start recording. We've been working really hard on this record through out this year and in between the tours we've had in Europe and Asia. All the pre-production for the songs are done and we're very happy with how everything has turned out for us so far.

The new songs are sounding aggressive, fast and dark! The fans can expect a heavy dosage of old school death metal, modern thrash metal, intertwined with our touch of Eastern melodies and brutality. Needless to say there will be more exciting news and surprises featured on this new record to follow.

The new (as-yet-untitled) album is set for a release early 2011 on Lifeforce Records (Europe) / Spellbind Records (Middle East). This will mark the follow-up to the much anticipated 2009 debut Preaching Venom which was released in Europe in October 2009 on Lifeforce Records."

The band will announce the album title and more details in the upcoming weeks, so make sure you stay tuned.

Holy Moses - Update From The Band

Long-running German thrashers Holy Moses have checked in with the following band update:

"The year 2010 has not yet ended, but we like to take the chance to give you a short overview. After the successful shows in Finland, at Kaltenbach Open Air in Austria, and the really great shows with Doro at Landau Germany and at Bloodstock Open Air in UK, the band is going to take a break from playing Live.

But we are not sleeping:

We are working on new songs, and we started up to arrange old school classics of Holy Moses in a new structure. We will be back in the studio for an new Holy Moses album in spring 2011 at Absurd Studio Hamburg.

From December, 2011 until December, 2012 we will have our 30th years anniversary with Holy Moses, and we are preparing ourselves right now for this great event.

Our contract with Wacken Records had ended in 2010 and we are dealing right now with different companies for the release of the new album and our first DVD in Holy Moses history.

The first shows for summer 2011 are already booked and we will release this dates in the upcoming weeks in December. We will play only special shows in 2011 around the whole world, to celebrate the 30th years anniversary of Holy Moses.

We want to thank you already for that, because without you, our fans, Holy Moses would not exist for 30 Years. Thanks for all your support also in 2010 and with a lot of power and energy we will start into 2011."

Obscura - Album Recording Completed

Obscura has recently completed work on their brand new album Omnivium. Omnivium was recorded at Woodshed Studio in southern Germany with engineer V. Santura (Triptykon, Dark Fortress) and is expected to see a March 2011 release date via Relapse Records. Additional album details will be announced shortly.

Obscura drummer Hannes Grossman commented on recording Omnivium: "The recording process was intense and time-consuming, but it brought us many steps forward as musicians both individually and collectively. The songs are still catchy, but there are more epic parts involved, as well as faster and more melodic songs. The extremes of the band's sound extend on all sides, so to say. Expect some things which have never been done before like this in Death Metal!"

Additionally, Grossman is working on his first instructional drum DVD titled "Progressive Concepts for the Modern Metal Drummer". The DVD will feature different chapters about hand/foot techniques, blast beats, advanced double bass drumming, rhythmic modulations, and song and performance tutorials.

Grossman commented on his forthcoming DVD: "After the recordings for Obscura's new album I decided to start filming because the energy of the recording process was still valid. The final motivation came from Nile drummer George Kollias, with whom we toured in Japan. Thanks again, Bro'! Of course the DVD will not only feature solo and song performances, but also very deep advice about the things that I use, like finger control technique, hybrid techniques, advanced foot technique or odd-time signatures."

Omnivium tracklist:

01. Septuagint
02. Vortex Omnivium
03. Ocean Gateways
04. Euclidean Elements
05. Prismal Dawn
06. Celestial Spheres
07. Velocity
08. A Transcendental Serenade

Neuromist - Line-Up Changes

Kirill Zmurciuk, guitarist and founding member of Moldovan progressive death metal band Neuromist, has announced the departure of their drummer and vocalist. Here's the full message:

"Without any introduction I will get straight to the point - we have yet another line-up changes. Both Mihail Grigorash and Vladimir Ghilien have left the band a few months ago for personal and very positive reasons. Both are waiting for their wives to give birth to their children, and that's very good news for us. Guys simply don't have the time to focus on music so they decided to leave the band. All we can say is good luck for their families that will get bigger very soon

As for our little family, we are glad to announce our new/old drummer - Serghei "Liolik" Petrenco. Those of you who have seen us supporting Sadist in Chisinau on 30th of October already know that the founding drummer is back in the fold and he's kicking some serious ass behind the kit. He has agreed to stay with us permanently after this show, and we're very excited about it since he's a real pro and there's not doubt that our music will get even more technical and aggressive with him joining us. So, welcome back to the family!

As for the vocalist, we didn't find a permanent replacement yet, but we're looking for it. We've been joined by former vocalist Laur Lozan for the show and had a little collaboration with Lena from Infected Rain for one song. It turned our killer, but it was just a single show. So if anyone is intrested in becoming a full-time frontman for a band where all other dudes are constantly looking at their instruments - give us a note."

Septicflesh - Completes Recording New Album

Greek demons Septicflesh just finished recording the successor of 2008's Communion. After a long period of intense work in Athens, Prague and Sweden, the evolution of the band's Symphonic Death sound has been achieved with the help of the Filmharmonic Orchestra of Prague and well known artist/producer Peter Tägtgren.

130 musicians were involved in the recording process. Besides the traditional classic orchestra instruments, this time Septicflesh incorporated harpsichord, some bizarre ethnic instruments and a boy soprano to their sound, pursuing a more "horror soundtrack" approach. Of course, the guitars will still shred you to death!

The release of the forthcoming 10-song album is expected for the first quarter of 2011. In the meantime, a brand new song will be available worldwide as an exclusive digital download single from this December 17th on. So keep your eyes on this site for updates!

Pain - Update From The Band

For those wondering what the hell is going on in the Pain camp, the Swedish metallers have released the following statement:

"Well... It's been a while since the last update and we thought it was about time to let you in on a couple of things.

The last couple of months every one of us has been pretty busy with anything but Pain. As you may know Peter has been concentrating on Hypocrisy this year and recently came home from a successful tour in South America. David, who just got signed up with Zildjian, is working for Unique Pyrotechnic along with doing a lot of different stand-in club shows in Sweden. Johan became a dad in August (best wishes from us all), and the more time spent away from Pain means the more time spent with his family. Michael is working with different side projects along with his work for Digidesign.

Now, the following months will be dedicated to Pain and to finish the new songs. Up till today 8 songs are more or less ready to go, and at least 3 or 4 more are needed before we can start recording. Our plans are to start the recordings in late 2010 or early 2011, and have the album ready for a world wide release sometime in May 2011. After that we're about to hit the road and do as many of the summer festivals as we can. Of course there will be a headline tour as well, and if everything works out we'll even break new grounds. Work has also begun with designing a new stage set that will be something out of the average.

As you may understand we're more eager than ever to record this album, make it the best, and play it for you live. So stay tuned and visit our websites for continuous information, studio reports, album details, and the first showdates for 2011."

Communic - Issue Update On New Album

Norwegian metallers Communic are currently preparing the final writing details for their follow-up to 2008's Payment Of Existence. The band is planning to start the recording process early 2011. The band is hoping for a June 2011 release.

Comments guitarist/vocalist Oddleif Stensland: "I am really excited about this new material that we have put together for this new album. There is still some work left, but we are getting closer. I think the heaviness of these songs will surprise many of you, and the overall feeling of it, is way darker this time. The songs are shorter, more in your face and may seem straight forward at first, but there are many twists and turns that will just creep under your skin. This album is DEEP!

I know that many of you have been waiting for this album for a long time already, but everything has its time, and the time is now. Never before have I left so much of "myself" in our songs - never before has the price been so high - this album will be really special".

Asomvel - Vocalist/Bassist Jay Jay Winter Passes Away

It's with heavy hearts that we announce that Jay-Jay Winter, bassist & singer with ASOMVEL has lost his life in a car accident. He was driving home Today on October 18th when en route he was forced off the road by another drivers incompetence. Jay later died in hospital from the injuries he sustained.

Jay was a great man, he was one of the most honest, forthright and brutally truthful people you could ever hope to meet. With his razor sharp wit and frank opinions, he was loved and respected by all of his peers in the UK Metal community because of his strength of character. He was generous and helpful to a fault with people who deserved it, and sometimes even with people who didn't deserve it. Such was his love of fair play and the underdog getting the upper hand.

He was more than just a bandmate, he was also a family member and a true friend. We are all stunned by this turn of events and hope that you will all understand why all our forthcoming gigs are now cancelled.

R.I.P. Jay Jay.

Lenny Robinson & Ian Wright (ASOMVEL, October 18th 2010).

"Jay Jay Winter - A REAL MAN, he played every English shithole under the sun and spoke the truth like we all should and nothing else. Let this be a lesson to us all. IF SOMETHING WAS SHIT HE SAID IT. 100% Respect to the man. Jay was like a big brother to me, he introduced me to the pleasure of cheap whiskey and a love for loose Women, How can anyone deny that to a man ? But he also cared for the underdog, he was a warm hearted bastard and would never see anyone on their arse?he looked after my goodself even when I was passed out in the piss filled toilets whilst wearing his own leather jacket back in Harrow 2008...

Turn it up LOUDER you daft twats??I'm playing some Venom and downing a bottle of Jameson's tonight for the man!"

Randy Reaper - THE LAMP OF THOTH

"Jay Jay Winter was the perfect sardonic counterpart to Lenny's playful enthusiasm. If he wanted to take the piss out of you and rip you a new one - he could do it with ease. His command of the well timed phrase and put down was legendary. I learned that to take him on in a piss-taking contest was like bringing a blunt and rusty pen-knife to a gun fight. I remember being quite wary of him at first - here was a guy you just would not mess with. But as I got to know him, I realised that he was also a true Yorkshire gentleman possessed with the unyielding commonsense and common courtesy of that race - he was a force of nature on and off the stage.
