X Japan/Loudness - Former Bassist Passed Away

Japanese rock musician and songwriter Taiji Sawada (ex-X Japan, ex-Loudness) passed away yesterday (July 17th) before noon at the intensive care unit in Saipan's Commonwealth Health Center.

Sawada, 45, was arrested last Monday by federal authorities "for interference with a flight attendant" due to an incident on a plane en route from Japan to Saipan. He was brought to CHC after he tried to kill himself on Thursday evening while detained at the Department of Corrections facility.

Sawada was supposed to appear in federal court for his detention hearing on Friday morning. Mark Hanson, Sawada's court-appointed defense attorney, declined to provide details on Friday, but said his client had a "good chance of getting out" and be released to a local family under pretrial release conditions.

It is not yet known if these instances are related to his death.

Hellsaw - Enter The Studio

Austrian black metallers Hellsaw entered Munich's Dreamsound Studios last week to begin recording their fourth full-length album. Titled Trist, the album will be the follow up to 2009's Cold and is due for release on Napalm Records in early 2012.

Frontman and founder Aries commented about the direction Hellsaw will take with the album: "The German word "Trist" is difficult to define exactly but if you think of various connotations of solemnity and sadness you'd be thinking along the right lines. Cold was more about melancholy, Trist is darker; it's like the scent of fine whiskey and damp earth.

As a band, we always prepare thoroughly before going into the studio, but this time we've rehearsed even more in order to perfect the sound for each track. We've also sought to redefine the Hellsaw sound, without losing our identity. There needs to be a certain amount of experimentation with each new album in order to bring the sound up to date. Without giving too much away, with Trist we believe we have found the perfect symbiosis between the old and new elements. All the songs are strong, and it will definitely kick ass."

Rage Nucléaire - New Project By Ex-Cryptopsy Vocalist

Rage Nucléaire - the new project led by ex-Cryptopsy vocalist Dan "Lord Worm" Greening - are finishing up the last pieces of their upcoming debut album, entitled Unrelenting Fucking Hatred.

Said Lord Worm to Bravewords: "Rage Nucléaire is a hate-filled blend of melodic black metal and violent industrial. It's a three-piece and its other component parts are Alvater on guitar, synth, drum programming, and background vocals, and Dark Rage on guitar, background vocals, and secret things even I'm not privy to.

A full-length CD, Unrelenting Fucking Hatred, is currently in the works. The three of us seem to share the same bleak world vision, for one thing, and this shows up very clearly in the compositions. Alvater used to be in the godly Frozen Shadows, and I know he hasn't spent nearly a fraction of his accumulated rage. Dark Rage and I don't do a lot of cretinous smiling, either.

Also, I remember a talk with (ex-Cryptopsy guitarist) Steve Thibault about ten years ago, in which he said something about having one more album left in him. As it turns out, he didn't, but I've often thought about that, and I figure I might have one or two left to expiate. As the millennium progresses, so does the aural assault perpetrated by really nasty practitioners of the Black Art; good. I just want to add my voice to the global chorus of discomfiture. And so, I will.

I'm still into doing live stuff but we'll have to see about that. There is also some material being written for a second release, and we'll probably have to put up a Facebook page, too, at some point. Other than that, I'm just looking forward to being dead, but then, aren't we all."

Chris Connelly - New Solo Album Later This Year

Relapse Records will release the brand new solo album from prolific musician and writer Chris Connelly (Ministry, Revolting Cocks, The High Confessions).

The new album, titled Artificial Madness, was recorded this past May at Engine studios in Chicago with producer Sanford Parker. Joining Connelly for the recording and adding to his distinctive vocal and guitar work was Noah Leger (The Karl Hendricks Trio, The(e) Speaking Canaries, Head of Skulls) on drums, Will Lindsay (Indian, Nachtmystium, Wolves In The Throne Room) on bass, and Dallas Thomas (The Swan King, Circle of Animals, Asschapel) on guitar.

The title Artificial Madness is a reference to today's insane reliance on needless technologies that has turned humans into head-hung, shuffling zombies. Connelly describes the release as "an adrenaline rush of paranoia, drawing on my history with bands like Ministry, Killing Joke, and The Damage Manual while retaining the melodic sense. It's a statement against the way music has become a flaccid Eagles/Fleetwood Mac nightmare with no one fighting or asking questions anymore. It's time for a revolution."

Artificial Madness will see an autumn 2011 release date with additional album details to be posted shortly.
