Sabaton - DragonForce Bassist Joins Tour

DragonForce bassist Frédéric Leclercq will play with Sabaton - but only for their World War Tour 2011.

Sabaton explain the situation as follows:
"Our old friend and companion from the band DragonForce will take over on guitars from Rikard during the upcoming World War Tour in Europe. This is since Rikard has decided to multiply himself and will have his first kid at this time. Of course its the highest wish of Sabaton to tour with all six members but this time Rikard wanted to pass and to ensure that the fans that come to these shows will get a good show we wanted to bring in a person with both great musical talent as well as a great stage act together with a chemistry that we know fits in Sabaton. We are sure that Frédéric is that person.

This is of course a temporary situation, Frédéric is still a full member of DragonForce and Rikard is still the guitar player of Sabaton.
For the American tour that starts in April Rikard will be on stage again, ready to rock and hopefully a bit richer in life."

Stratovarius - Jörg Back, But Paris Show Cancelled

January 11th, Stratovarius didn't perform in Paris as expected. They went on stage with promoter Oliver Garnier to announce that although this particular date was supposed to be a real party due to Jörg Michael being back in the band after his first therapy against cancer, Timo Kotipelto had been suffering from food poisoning since some time before Christmas. Although they tried everything that was possible, he was still unable to sing a single note, he said.

After the announcement, roadies cleared the stage that they had so carefully set for Stratovarius, allowing rumors that they had indeed hoped to perform until the very last minute.

Stratovarius is currently embarked in a European with German power metallers Helloween. It hasn't been stated when Stratovarius would be performing again, so it is to believe that they won't take the stage on Thursday January 12th in Lyon, France, as well.

Check the band's website for a more official statement at http://www.stratovarius.com.

Mike Portnoy - Schedules Live Shows With Beatles Cover Band

Time for your weekly update on Mike Portnoy! In only a matter of months the legendary musician went from ex-Dream Theater drummer to ex-Avenged Sevenfold drummer to drummer in a, err, Beatles cover band, called Yellow Matter Custard. Srsly!

After having had such a fun experience the first time around in 2003, Mike Portnoy, Paul Gilbert (Paul Gilbert, Racer X) and Neal Morse (Transatlantic, Spock's Beard) are reuniting once again to pay tribute to their greatest influence of all: The Beatles!

Due to a scheduling conflict (and further fueling the "Paul is dead" rumours), original YMC bassist Matt Bissonette is unable to join the band this time, but Yellow Matter Custard is pleased to announce the addition of Utopia legend Kasim Sulton who will surely be an amazing addition to the line-up.

The setlist for these shows will be ALL NEW without any repeats from the 2003 shows.

Yellow Matter Custard - Three Nights Across America 2011:

Fri Feb 25th - Long Beach, CA - Art Theater of Long Beach
Sun Feb 27th - Chicago, IL - (tba)
Mon Feb 28th - New York City, NY - BB King's

In other news, Mike Portnoy is still busy recording a new album for his as-yet-unnamed project featuring Steve Morse (Deep Purple, ex-Kansas), Neal Morse (Transatlantic, Spock's Beard), Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs) and Casey McPherson (Alpha Rev, Endochine). An overview of studio reports can be found at this location.

Apocalyptica - Issue Statement Regarding Rammstein Lawsuit

Following the recent commotion concerning a lawsuit for copyright infringement filed by Rammstein, Apocalyptica have now released a statement clarifying the events:

"The article's headline Anwalt24.de, ed.] is substantially wrong: neither the band Apocalyptica nor their management are or were involved in the described lawsuit. However, the parties involved are the band Rammstein and Sony Music Entertainment GmbH, as the successor of the by now defunct affiliated label "Gun Records".

Apocalyptica and Halbe Miete Management regret the events, but neither had any influence on a violation of trademark and naming rights, nor any part in whatsoever resulting agreements.

It is correct, that "Gun Records" published advertisements with the stated endorsement disregarding existing agreements, and the band Rammstein subsequently filed a lawsuit against Sony Music Entertainment GmbH as the parent company. It is furthermore correct, that Sony Music Entertainment GmbH and Rammstein have agreed on a settlement. The details of which, however, are unknown to Apocalyptica and Halbe Miete Management. We ask that further articles on the topic correctly reproduce the facts."

Also last week, Apocalyptica was involved in another incident where they were forced to pull the vocals of Shinedown frontman Brent Smith off the new single, Not Strong Enough. The band apparently failed to secure the rights from Shinedown's label, Atlantic Records, to release the song to radio with Smith's vocals on it. An official statement regarding this incident has yet to be made.

Whitehead allegedly used the tools of his trade to sexually assault his girlfriend after he slammed her head against a floor and choked her.

The woman was taken to the University of Illinois Medical Center in fair to serious condition, said Quention Curtis, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman. Her condition was not known Sunday.
