Suicidal Angels - Update From The Band

Suicidal Angels have posted the following update:

"We regret to announce that our supporting appearance under Septicflesh is cancelled. For reasons beyond the band, we won't have the pleasure to perform under this great Greek death metal group, which we want to sincerely thank for the invitation and wish it all the best for January's show.

However, we will perform live again soon! We are happy to have been presented with the opportunity to play live with German neothrashers Dew-Scented, on February 27 at Texas Necropolis in Athens. This will be the last Suicidal Angels show for a while, as we will start production of our new album in early Spring, which we hope to release later in 2009. The songs are ready, we like them a lot and we can't wait to record and present them to all you maniacs out there!

So join us on February 27th for our final show comprising mostly of "Eternal Domination" tunes (along with some songs we haven't played for a very long time), as we promise to give it our best to thank you all for the incredible support you've shown us, especially for the warm welcome of our debut album, which will always pose as a landmark in our course. Together with mighty Dew-Scented and the other great Greek supporting acts, we'll try to make it a night to be remembered."

Algaion - Reunited And Working On New Material

After a great long decade of silence, Swedish Melodic Black Metallers Algaion is back to the fold, reunited and preparations of a new full-length album are underway.

Previously busy on his stint with other bands (Hypocrisy, Pain, etc) and also currently in Swedish Power Metal band Morifade, Mathias Kamijo decided that it was time to resurrect the ghost of Algaion and brought it back to life in 2008 together with founding member Mårten Björkman.

New blood have since joined the Algaion camp, with current members from Coporation 187 (Viktor Klint and Robert Eng contributing on guitars and drums respectively) and Tobias Leffler (previously in Vergelmer and N.C.O) on bass.

In the meantime, the band signed a record deal with Pulverised Records. The label commented: "It is our great pleasure to have Algaion join the ranks of the Pulverised Records roster; we are very excited and definitely looking forward to a great working releationship with such a veteran class act!"

Algaion was formed in the early autumn of 1993, but already broke up five years later, after releasing two full-lengths. Peter Tägtgren, who recorded one of those albums, also played drums on one of the band's EP's.

All info about the band on http://www.algaion.com/ and http://www.myspace.com/algaion.

Shining - Niklas Kvarforth Presents: Hjarnidaudi

From the site of Avantgarde Music:

"This time we have a rather unusual "new signing" announcement. You know that Shining's Kvarforth is rather a moving soul in constant angst. Besides his official band and official (too many to mention) guestings and projects, he now has proven himself with quite of an effort: to "vocalise" a yet recorded instrumental "album". We are talking here about Norwegian psycho-doom monster Hjarnidaudi (MySpace), who released his début album in 2006 entitled "Pain:Noise:March", originally released on Paradigms Recordings."

Avantgarde Music mentioned this could be the first episode of a "Niklas Kvarforth presents:" serie, in which "our beloved chanteur re-interpreting and paying hommage to some key-albums of his existence". Together with the release of the album we will spread a real statement, written by Niklas himself, where you will understand more about the real spirit behind this release.

Demigod - Call It Quits

Demigod posted a bulletin on their official website and their MySpace with only these words: "Demigod has split up." No further details have been given.

Demigod gained relative popularity with their '92 classic album "Slumber Of Sullen Eyes". Despite this, the band split up a couple of years later. 1998 saw the reformation of the band and two more albums were released. But the band never reached the height of "Slumber..." again and right now it looks like they never will.

Jason Becker - New Album Out

Shrapnel Records press release

"Gripping virtuoso guitar licks and a glimpse at history as it was being made accurately summarize Jason Becker's new album, "Collection". Even as paralysis set in from his disease, Jason still had a strong desire to compose ."Collection" not only contains some of Jason's favorite moments from his Shrapnel and David Lee Roth recordings, it also features three new Becker compositions, each as impressive as anything he has recorded in the past. Jason has enlisted some of the largest names in instrumental guitar music and has as many as three guitarists per track trading off riveting performances. Including performances by Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Michael Lee Firkins, Marty Friedman and Greg Howe. "Collection" is exactly the kind of record that Becker fans have been waiting for."

Jason Becker himself states in his official blog: "There is some bonus material when you stick it in your computer, so the total music time adds up to about an hour and a half. I hope you all dig it. Listen to it loud, or else it sucks."

"Collection" tracklisting:

01. Rain
02. River of Longing
03. Images
04. Opus Pocus
05. Higher
06. It's Showtime
07. Altitudes
08. End of the Beginning
09. River of Longing (Reprise)
10. Meet Me In the Morning
11. Air
12. Electric Prayer for Peace
13. Mandy's Throbbing Little Heart

Bonus material:

01. Go Off (intro)
02. End Of The Beginning
03. Noodling For Rob And Tony

Taken from Blabbermouth

Jason Becker began his career as a Shrapnel recording artist by joining forces with guitar virtuoso Marty Friedman to form seminal progressive metal pioneers Cacophony. Amassing worldwide acclaim as a guitar virtuoso, Becker came to the attention of David Lee Roth who was looking for a guitarist to replace Steve Vai and the rest is history.

Through his work with Cacophony, his groundbreaking solo record "Perpetual Burn", recorded when Jason was just 17, and through his second solo record "Perspective", recorded after Becker came down with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's Disease). Jason earned an international reputation for being one of the best composer/guitarists to emerge from the legendary Shrapnel shredding scene.

Even as paralysis set in from his disease, Becker still had a strong desire to compose and "Collection" not only contains some of Becker's favorite moments from his Shrapnel and David Lee Roth recordings, it also features three new Becker compositions, each as impressive as anything he has recorded in the past. Becker has enlisted some of the largest names in instrumental guitar music to perform the parts that he hears in his head and has as many as three guitarists per track trading off riveting performances.

Within Temptation - Update From The Band

Within Temptation have issued the following update:

"Unfortunately we have to announce that, due to family matters, Stephen hasn't been able to rehearse with us for the upcoming theatre tour. That's why Stephen has asked Mike Coolen to replace him for the rehearsals and consequently also for the theatre tour. You might have seen Mike Coolen (Brotherhood Foundation, Daybroke) with us before, as he replaced Stephen during a few shows last year. We kindly ask you to also give Mike a warm welcome!

Speaking of shows, the upcoming theatre tour will be our last tour for a while. The upcoming year we will focus on writing new songs and work on recording a new album. We have done over 180 shows in 40 countries in the past 2 years. New continents have been visited (like the United States, South-America and Russia) and we also did shows in Eastern Europe for the first time. The Black Symphony concert with the Metropole Orchestra in Ahoy Rotterdam has been an absolute highlight. We're still very proud of the amazing DVD and Blu-ray in which it has resulted. It have been two intense, but amazing years and we'd like to thank you all for giving us your warm welcome and support!

In short, due to all the touring we have done, we haven't been able to work on new songs and that's why we now want to focus on that. We'd also like to go on holiday for a change as we haven't been able to do this in the past years. Besides writing new songs, there will also be more time for individual side projects. Ruud will be busy with his band 'For All We Know' and giving guitar lessons. Stephen will be busy with his band My Favorite Scar and Jeroen will study 3D Design. Of course, this will bring in a lot of new inspiration for everybody.

Of course we will frequently update you all on all the developments with regards to the new album. So keep an eye on the website and newsletter for our updates. We'll keep you posted! But for now the theatre tour is coming up shortly, which will be very intimate and special. We are really looking forward to this and we hope to see you all there!"
