Grip Inc. - Vocalist Found Dead At Age 52

Gus Chambers, former vocalist of German metal band Squealer and Dave Lombardo's groove metal side project Grip Inc., has passed away last Monday, on the 13th of October, at the age of 52. Gus Chambers, who nowadays lived in Coventry, England, reportedly took his own life.

The Coventry Telegraph reports that, one of the city's much-loved and popular musicians, Gus Chambers, died last weekend. Gus Chambers was a natural born rocker.

He took over lead vocals from Terry Hall in the punk band Squad in the late 70s, and fronted the band through their finest moments. But his punk-crazed stage antics were quite opposite to the real man - Gus was a thinker, and a great believer in fairness and racial equality, though to some, he was just a punk.

When the final embers of the punk revolution faded away, Gus took his skills as a top notch front-man to the new band 21 Guns. They released the single Ambition Rock on Neville Staples's Shack Records.

Gus later moved to America and formed Sons Of Damnation, finally joining the no messing high-energy metal band Grip Inc. They were formed by former Slayer drum-king Dave Lombardo. They released three brooding albums in the mid to late 90s - "Power Of Inner Strength", "Nemesis", and "Solidify" - and finally came back with a fourth entitled "Incorporated" in 2004, which was greeted as a true return to form by the critics.

Of late, Gus was part of the sonically-superb Mantra Sect. "I've been very lucky in my career," said Gus. "I have had the privilege of playing in front of thousands of people at festivals like Rock in Rio and the Dynamo Festival in Holland. Nothing though brings back fonder memories than playing in front of maybe 20 or 30 people in The Hand and Heart or the back room of The Swanswell."

Coventry Telegraph concludes: "The line, "He'll be greatly missed", is forever trotted out on these occasions; this time it's totally fitting, and judging by the unprecedented number of people who phoned me to tell me the tragic news, this is one great Cov rocker who will never be forgotten and God forbid, ever be replaced."

A few more reactions to Chamber's death can be read here.

Urkraft - New Track Online

Danish metallers Urkraft have posted a new song "The Power To Crucify" from their upcoming third album, "A Scornful Death", on their MySpace page.

The band stated: "So we have decided to upload the first track from the album, "The Power to Crucify", which we think in most ways represents our latest throw-ups in metal and the album. Some might agree and some disagree... When the album hit the streets you can tell us all about it.

We are still searching for a label to deal with. So far the conversations has been good, but nothing really usefull. We'll see and you'll be the first to know.

It has been extreemly difficult to pick out a track and let that track represent the album. The album contains more variation than our last efforts on E.C.S. and T.I.A. and it should of course be heard from start to end. But this it what you get fuckers. Take it or leave it. "The Power to Crucify" is mainly the only track which has been added a keyboard part, so don't get too used to it. The keyboard part is done by our old old keyboarder and good friend of Urkraft, Tommy, and we kept it at that."

Divine Heresy - Prepare New Material, New Video With New Singer Online

Century Media press release:

Divine Heresy are hard at work on their much anticipated sophomore release, their first with Travis Neal on vocals. The group plan on hitting the studio early next year once again with acclaimed producer Logan Mader (Gojira, Cavalera Conspiracy). To tide fans over, Divine Heresy have completed work on a new video for "Bleed The Fifth," which perfectly captures the band's frenetic live energy. It made its exclusive, online debut through the Headbangers Ball Blog yesterday (16th October) and premieres on MTV2 this Saturday night. Click on this link.

Dino Cazares (guitars) further comments: "The original concept for the "Bleed The Fifth" video was just to have a stripped down, in your face performance clip that was as unrelenting as the song itself. We shot it on a green screen and all of the effects were added in post production, which was very odd considering we are jamming out in front of a blank wall not having any idea how everything was going to look.

We are so confident with our choice of a new vocalist that we decided to re-record the track with his vocals and cut together a new performance clip with him. In the end, everything worked out perfectly and we think we delivered a pretty intense clip that is very indicative of the tenacity of a Divine Heresy live performance. Enjoy"

Divine Heresy kicks off a string of headlining dates in Texas on Nov. 7th and be sure to visit http://www.myspace.com/divineheresyband to view their remaining touring itinerary.

Obscura - New Album Title And Guest Appearances Revealed

Obscura New Album Title And Guest Appearances Revealed

German death metallers Obscura have set "Cosmogenesis" as the title of its upcoming album. The group recently signed with Relapse Records and has completed the recordings for its second full-length album, to be released in early 2009. "Cosmogenesis" features guest appearances from Ron Jarzombek (Watchtower, Spastic INK, Blotted Science) and Tymon Kruidenier (Cynic, Exivious). Battlelore - Vocalist To Sit Out Tour

Battlelore's vocalist Tomi Mykkänen has posted the following statement:

"To my great regret I need to tell you that I am not able to be part of the Finnish Fire tour this autumn due to family reasons. I will take my personal leave from performing with BLore as of today so I will miss also the three Finnish gigs (Juva, Oulu and Kuopio). The reason why I'm missing the Finnish gigs as well is quite easy; we need to have the replacement vocalist trained for the tour and what is better place to train than gigs? Replacement vocalist? Yeah, there is one and he's Harri (Witch King) from Avathar. Who would be a better replacement than other fellow Tolkien freak?!

Harri is an excellent growler with a deep, strong voice, and a great attitude for live shows. He also sings clean vocals, so he is the perfect session front man! The band will sound just as great as always! Hopefully you'll all make him feel welcomed. Maybe buy him a beer or two?

I will be back in fold for the gig on January 1st 2009. More info on that later.

I feel very bummed for missing the gigs and new countries and lots of new (and old!) fans but sometimes in life happens things that are even more important than touring, drinking and rocking. The things like that are very rare though? Hahah!"
