Black Swan Festival - Cancelled

The Black Swan Festival that was set to take place for its first year at the Bath Racecource, and was due to see the likes of Mayhem and Lordi, has been cancelled:

"It has come as another massive blow to us, we have had to cancel Black Swan festival due to one of our major financial backers pulling out for personal reasons, which I cannot disclose.

This was unexpected to say the least and at this late date it is far to late to amend, or pull any other stops.

This is the not the first bump in the road we have had, infact it has been a total nightmare to try and keep this festival together, with one problem after another, this one has finally knocked us down and we are not getting back up from it. If you have been with us from the start then you will already know this.

I'm sorry to disappoint you all. We are gutted to say the least, it could have been a great day."

Also adding:

"I can and will tell you that there will be no Black Swan Festival next year, or any other year for that matter, as finacially, pysically and mentally, this has drained us, and as I said with out our backer we can no longer proceed with this project."

For the people who purchased tickets, for refunds go to the ticketing agent where it was purchased.

The Black Swan team are all once again very sorry for the people who were going to attend.

Age Eternal - Call It Quits

Age Eternal (formerly known as Middian) has posted the following statement on their mysapce page:

Age Our lawsuit Click here for more info] is finally coming to a close. It has been a hard year, and we could not have done it without the support of the metal community world wide and the time and money people donated to our cause. We are eternally in your debt. Sadly, the lawsuit came with a high cost to us personally and interpersonally. Scott Headrick is quitting the band and moving. Mike S felt he needed to back off from touring due to family and work/lack of work issues, cutting his touring commitment from 60-70 shows a year to a handful of shows, mostly local to the West Coast, for an indefinite amount of time, maybe permanently. This extreme change in direction, coupled with the immense stress of our lawsuit and inner conflicts in the band resulted in Scott's decision to move on with his life. Scott Headrick is the highest caliber of person. We mourn his loss, and support his need to take care of himself.

We are very sad to share this news about Age Eternal, but are confident that it must and will open the doors for new music creation and growth. Will Lindsay and Mike S will continue to write music with the goal of recording and doing some shows, under another name, as a new band and not Age Eternal. And with Will’s now full-time commitment playing guitar with the immaculate Wolves In The Throne Room, people should be expecting to see him in their hometown in the USA and abroad very soon. News regarding the reformation of YOB, including a small number of shows and a new recording, shall be announced officially soon. Once again, we cannot thank the metal community and people who donated their money and time enough. We feel extremely fortunate to be a part of such a quality group of people, and we will pay your kindness and generosity forward. Doomed Regards, Age Eternal RIP.

Elvenking - Completes Work On Acoustic Album

The Italian Folk Metallers have posted the following update on their official site regarding their new acoustic album:

''...and the acoustic album is finally ready! Everything is done. It's been a hell of a ride, for sure the hardest work was to stay in the deadlines but in the end we reached the goal and we're here. The mix has been done the last days of July in the lands of Germany with Martin Buchwalter at Gernhart studios, and Achim Koehler gave the final touch with the right mastering at Indiscreet Audio.

In the meantime also photo sessions and work on the cover and layout have been done...have we told you that the thing has been handled once again by Gyula Havancsák as for The Winter Wake and The Scythe covers? So you know what to expect.

By the way everything about the acoustic album, from the title to the tracklist, from the cover to the other details, will be revealed on these pages the first week of September, so be sure to check this place often. You can expect something unique, that's for sure! We won't get tired of saying that this album is an experiment for us, a journey in a world that was waiting to be explored. But we'll talk more about this when all details will be announced''.

Pain Of Salvation - Update From The Band

Pain Of Salvation Updated their site with some great news:

They will part of a series of Charitiy Gigs: "As usual, Pain of Salvation will always do what they can to support causes they agree with, and this year they will play in Finnaker, Sweden on the 6th of September at the charity festival Rock for Moc (for Mozambique), and later on in Eskilstuna, Sweden, at the last day of the European Mobility Week, September 22 (car free day). On the 10th of October they will again play in Eskilstuna, at the Balsta Musikslott (Buster stage), headlining the "Rock for the Children of the World" night".

Daniel said the following about the dvd: "The DVD is starting to come together, and will consist of two separate discs - one will be the live show from our last tour, and the other one will be a documentary following the band on the 2005 tour, which marked the end of that line-up. The fact that the band has seen such major changes the last two years made it very difficult emotionally to invest time and energy in this product, and it wasn't until the documentary draft was proposed by Per Hillblom that I started to see what this DVD was trying to communicate. We still have a few commentary tracks to record but we are starting to see the end of it."

And also little heads-up from the world number eight: "We are starting to get a grasp of the tons of material that I have been working on in my head. My vision is that the next album will be recorded in our rehearsing room, and we have started to prepare ourselves and the rehearsing room for this. The material that I am focusing on for the album at the moment, is some sort of cross breed between the heavy early 70s in the vein of Sabbath/Zeppelin and the dark weirdness of Faith no More/Soundgarden together with a touch of fragile suggestiveness displayed by The Doors/Jeff Buckley. Add some energetic Foo Fighters and you will start to get the picture..."

Stratovarius - New Guitarist Announced

Keyboardist Jens Johansson has updated the band's website with the following news:

"We have some good news. Earlier this summer, Timo K, Jens and Lauri got together with a guitar player in a forest cottage in west Finland and wrote and arranged some songs. It went extremely well, and we are very happy with the material, the direction, and the general vibe in the band.

We now have over 15 songs written and demoed already, but probably not all of these will make it to the actual album.

We are happy to confirm that our new guitar player is Matias Kupiainen photo]. He was the only guy we even considered seriously. This interesting fellow was born May 11, 1983 and is a native of Helsinki, Finland. You can find some information and pictures on his myspace page. Here is a video.

Next week, Jörg and Jens will come to Finland as we have booked three weeks of rehearsals and recordings in another cottage. We will then work more intensely on the songs in a real band rehearsal type of situation."
