Cynic - Sign To Season Of Mist

The news was announced a few days ago already, but here's the official word from Seasons Of Mist:

"Season of Mist is really proud to announce that a new cult band just joined the roster. Let's welcome legendary American progressive jazzy death metal band Cynic! Most of the label's team have been a fan of the band's milestone and so far only album, "Focus", so needless to say we at Season of Mist are all extremely excited about this new collaboration. Here's frontman Paul Masvidal's comment about the signing:

"We're pleased to be back in business with Season of Mist as our record company. They have tremendous enthusiasm and passion for our work. Our bottom line was a company that understood what Cynic does and believes in it 100%. We found that with SOM. We're deep in the pre-production album process now and will be headed into the studio in a couple weeks to dive even deeper and start the recordings with our talented friend Warren Riker at the engineering / mixing helm. The journey of writing this record has taken Reinert and I to new heights of exploration, straight into the heart of Cynic's soul. We're thrilled to be able to share this new work with the best fans in the world. Stay tuned."

The release of Cynic's sophomore album, which will be out on Season of Mist fifteen years after "Focus", is set to next autumn. In the meantime, you can check the band's new MySpace profile http://www.myspace.com/cyniconline, on which you can hear an excerpt of the demo to the brand new track "Integral Birth"!

Shaped around founding members Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert, the new line-up sees the return of bass god Sean Malone and the addition of Dutch guitarist Tymon Kruidenier who will also be in charge of 'death' vocals. The band are set to enter the studio this summer with Grammy Award winning Warren Riker (Down, Santana, etc.) to begin work on their long-awaited follow-up to "Focus". The album will contain eight songs, and the band are working once again with renowned artist Venosa (who created the unmistakeable cover and visuals for "Focus"), and the new album will be preceded by additional live shows, including a special appearance at Wacken Open Air, Germany, on next August 1st."

Destruction - New Album Due This Summer

Teutonic Thrash veterans Destruction have entered the Hansen Studio and have revealed their new album will be entitled "D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N."! The official AFM Records press release reads as follows:

"2008 - 25 years of German Thrash Metal history has elapsed, but still the unrelenting Thrash Monster that is Destruction is hungry, out there and on your trail!! The degeneration of the human race human can be delayed no longer.

Perfectly transforming this ethos into 10 destructive new Thrash hymns including blistering moments such as "Offenders Of The Throne", "Under Compulsion" or "Doomed To Devolution", this upcoming album will re-write Thrash Metal history! Meaner and more musical than ever before, the German metal originator reports back after three years without a new studio record! Sure, "Thrash Anthems" put down a marker, but that was bringing the past stingingly up to date. This is the future. Mark the 29th of August as an "Official" Thrash Metal Holiday!!!

While we were enjoying the first rays of Spring earlier this month, Destruction's three way killing machine was hard at work. Songwriting and final rehearsals are now complete, and Schmier, Mike and Marc will withdraw to the Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark with Jacob Hansen on April 21st.

"Celebrating 25 years of Destruction is of course an additional motivation to record a new classic", reports Schmier with his characteristic "Code Of Honour"!! "But the band has never before been so well prepared for a recording, and the new material is very dynamic crashing straight in your face! All Thrash maniacs can now look forward to a merciless and varied album which will put its predecessors in the shade! Beware!!"

On the release front the new album is set to be released in Europe on the 29th of August 2008 (Sept. 1st in the UK). And, Destruction will then devastate the musical landscape with their historic "25th Anniversary World Tour" details of which will follow in due course. There are also plans for a full DVD release later in the year; all in the cause of celebrating one-quarter century of classic German Thrash Metal with all the faithful fans worldwide!"

Andreas Hedlund - Launches New Project

Andreas Hedlund (frontman of Borknagar, Vintersorg) has launched a new project under the name Gravisphere. An unmixed track from the band, "Teleporting The Universe", is available for streaming on the Gravisphere MySpace page.

An update by the band reads as follows:

"We almost have all the music ready for what will be the debut album from Gravisphere. The songs are in the same style as Teleporting the Universe, but in the same time very different. Every song has its unique touch, but you can still recognize that it is Gravisphere.

It has been some speculation around wich label that will release the album. So far we have not signed Gravisphere to any label. So, anyone interested out there can send us a mail."

According to the band, Gravisphere is an experimental, symphonic black/electro metal consisting of Mr. V (Vintersorg, Borknagar, Cronian, Fission, WaterClime) and A. Stenlund S (TME). They are currently in the process of writing material to their first full lenght album.

Aborted - Two New Songs Online

Century Media press release:

"Mankind's sense for creativity probably manifests best in the sheer unlimited ways of torturing, mutilating, and killing each other. Successfully applying this atrocious inventiveness to their perversely precise sonic executions, "European death metal butchers" Aborted with members hailing from Belgium, France & UK have refined and re-defined the tools of their trade on their sixth full-length "Strychnine.213" to murder the listener with unimaginably gruesome, shockingly diverse brutality.

Besides the macabre cover artwork by Colin Marks / Rain Song, Aborted now present you two new songs from their stunning follow-up to 2007's much-lauded Century Media debut "Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture" at their revamped MySpace site.

"I35" demonstrates how Aborted have successfully increased the modern, darker and surprisingly dynamic and melodic elements of their sound, whereas "Pestiferous Subterfuge" is another brutal groove monster, heavy to the max! Listen to them now at http://www.myspace.com/abortedmetal.

Combining the band's undeniable live energy with a powerhouse production from Eric Rachel (The Red Chord, The Black Dahlia Murder, God Forbid etc.) and a "fuck you' rock'n roll" approach to the overly edited, sterile sounding death metal records of today, Aborted succeed in retaining their vicious roots while evolving in terms of melody, musical virtuosity and vigor.

"Strychnine.213" reinforces the notion that Aborted have doubtlessly developed into extreme metal's most promising new breed. In Aborted's degenerated worldview murder is fun and you will be delighted to be killed by their new aural toxin?"

Allfader - Studio Update

Norwegian black/death metallers Allfader posted the following item on their official website:

"Since the release of 'At Least We Will Die Together' in 2006 we had a period where our guitarist Per was very indifferent and not motivated to continue with the band. We didn't fire him because I go back with him quite a few years and was hoping his feelings would change. They did not, at least not fast enough. So eventually I took over his guitar duties. That's why things have been a bit slow over here. There’s no bad blood, no scandals. We’ve all moved on.

At first I was apprehensive about playing guitar while singing, but it has worked out incredibly well. Also, I feel I'm more in touch with the material when we write, and the writing process itself has been smoother than ever. We also did more shows in 2007 than the years 2001-2006 combined.

So what are we up to at the moment? Well, we're currently recording our next album. The drums are done, and right now we're focusing on guitars. We're recording eight songs for the album with a total playing time around 50 minutes. The songs sound huge and they have a bit of a different vibe (to us, at least). We're focusing on groove, dynamics and solid arrangements. Heavier, less technical guitars but some awesome drumming. I'm psyched to hear the songs come alive and I can't wait for our fans to hear this!

If we meet the necessary deadlines the album will be released by Osmose sometime in the fall. More info will come soon.

That's it for now, gotta go back to recording guitars...

-John/Allfader"

Trouble - Announce New Vocalist

Amidst many rumors it has been announced earlier today that Kory Clarke, of Warrior Soul will be the new front man effective immediately.

The news comes as the band returns to their Chicago homes following a successful European Tour.

Trouble founder and guitarist, Rick Wartell explains:

It was a mutual agreement, you need to follow your heart in this business and if you are not into it a hundred percent then it is time to move on. We all felt it was the best thing for all parties involved. There are no hard feelings. I'm sure Eric will continue making music and we wish him the best.

We are very excited to have Kory step in and take over the vocals for trouble. He is been one of my favorite frontmen in this industry for many years he will add a new dimension that we can use. It is not like we just picked out some guy to fill in, this is one of rocks most dynamic and creative frontmen in the industry. I know that when trouble fans get a taste of what Kory does, they will not be disappointed at all. Anyone who has seen Kory with Warrior Soul already knows what to expect, and it's awesome.

Eric Wagner comments:

It is with my deepest regret that by mutual agreement that Trouble and I have parted ways effective immediately. I love them very much and I wish them nothing but the best. At this moment in time I just can't handle touring anymore. All I want to do is write songs and work on my new project Black Finger. I am sorry and I love you all.

Detonation - Part Ways With Drummer Thomas Kalksma

Dutch death/thrash metal act Detonation have announced parting ways with drummer Thomas Kalksma. Kalksma was one of the original founders of the band and had been part of Detonation for over ten years. Commented by the band: "It was a very hard decision to make, but in the end both Thomas and the band agreed it would be better to part ways. We've had differences of opinion on the future of Detonation and these differences eventually where too strong to overcome. There are no hard feelings mutually and Detonation wish Thomas all the best for his future musical career."

Thomas' statement:

"I regret and feel very glad simultaneously to be leaving Detonation. After a lot of big ups an downs in this band, I feel that the abovementioned differences in opinion took away my passion for this band. Despite the fact that I've been jamming with Koen even before Detonation started, and the fact that i've put alot of effort in this band, I felt a huge need for change during the past months. Therefore i'll move forward and will focus on my other musical activities. I'm also open to interesting offers.

I want to thank all bookers, promoters, media and festivalorganisers and most importantly all FANS I have contact with. You are great and you haven't seen the last of me."

Detonation will continue writing for the forthcoming 4th studio album, however the band is now in search for a new drummer. If you have the skills, determination and personality we are looking for, please contact us through myspace or via info@detonation.nl !

Chaosanct - New Band Featuring Ex-COF Guitarist And Ex-Biomechanical Drummer

Chaosanct are the latest UK based metal act which features among it's members former Cradle Of Filth guitarist James McIlroy and former Biomechanical drummer Matt C.

The complete Chaosanct is:

James McIlroy - Guitar
Matt C - Drums
Dave R Kuchta - Vocals
Andrew Ongley - Guitar
Tilman Wolff-Moore - Bass

Chaosanct as an entity has been in existence since January '08. Having jammed together way back in the mists of time, a chance re-union at an infamous London Venue saw Andy & James decide to team up and put together something new & exciting. Devoid of all the headaches and difficulties of previous projects, this project has come to embody a sense of freedom and a desire to excel

The search was on to find the right members, people with passion, understanding & drive to succeed. First Dave brought his individual vocal style to the table, having known James for a number of years. On Daves recommendation, Tilman also joined to handle bass duties. Finally in early '08, on the recommendation of Adrian Erlandsson (At the Gates, The Haunted, Cradle of Filth), Matt completed the rhythm section on drums.

Having completed a 4 track industry demo, work is continuing at a heady pace. Keep your eyes peeled in the coming months for exciting revelations and incendiary live shows.
