Apocalyptica - Sign With 20-20 Entertainment
Lars Brandle of Monsters and Critics is reporting that Finnish "cello rock" group Apocalyptica has signed a worldwide, multi-album recording deal with 20-20 Entertainment, Martin Dodd's New York-based joint venture with Sony BMG International.
According to a statement issued Monday (March 20) from Sony BMG, the band is to enter the studio later in the year to record their sixth album, which will feature new material with unidentified collaborations.
"We are immensely proud to sign Apocalyptica," comments Maarten Steinkamp, president, Sony BMG Continental Europe and chairman/CEO of the company's German operations. "Apocalyptica are unique and we look forward to working with them and developing their success yet further."
In the statement, Steinkamp describes the decision to sign the act as "another example that shows how highly committed we are to working and breaking repertoire from all across Europe."
Since the release of their debut 1996 album "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" on Finnish indie label Zen Garden, the band has sold roughly 2.5 million albums, Sony BMG says.
Until recently, the act was signed to Universal Music Germany. Their most recent album, "Apocalyptica" (Vertigo/Universal), its first set of original material, was released in Europe in early 2005.

Therion - Johnsson Won't Sing Anymore
Christopher Jhonsson announced that he will quit singing in a email sent to Therion's website. He explains:
"As was announced on the Metal Mania festivals, I am going to retire from vocals. The reasons for this are two. One is that I feel it's not fun to sing anymore (even though I have enjoyed playing the old songs on guitar), the voice is getting weaker over the years and I experienced problems at the end of the US/Canada tour. The problem isn't only getting older, but rather that we basically never rehearse as a band and therefore I don't keep my throat "warm". It simply doesn't work to not sing for half a year and then go on tour for 2 months and shout every evening. It used to work when I was younger, but now I feel it's not comfortable anymore and when it doesn't feel right, it's definatly time to stop.
The second reason is that we anyway would like to stop playing old songs. By old I mean Lepaca Klifffoth and older. We are now working on our 13:th studio album and it is getting harder and harder to choose which songs to play live. The number of "classics" - songs that we more or less must play - is growing all the time and we don't want to end up like one of those bands where you know beforehand 95% for sure what songs that are going to be played. We want to be able to have space to play a couple of unexpected songs each new tour.
We of course realize that many fans will miss those brutal songs, but we are convinced that those fans also will prefer to hear something new each time from the Theli album and onwards.
Besides old songs, this will have an effect on the choice on some newer songs. For example, I'd normally sing in To Mega Therion, Invocation of Naamah, In The Desert Of Set and Typhon. I guess I in normal cases seldomly have to sing in To Mega Therion anyway - good crowds tends to do that for me!
Typhon would anyway not be on the set list on the next tour, there's so many songs we haven't played from that album. Personally I would rather do An Arrow From The Sun and the title track Lemuria next time.
As for Desert Of Set I guess we're not gonna play it and regarding Invocation Of Naamah, we might not play it or we could experiment with Mats doing some harsher type of voice on my parts, he's a pretty flexible singer as you might know by now (and he has said he don't have any principles against doing some growling type of vocals as long as it's just some few parts). So time shall tell what happens around that."

Mercenary - Bassist Leaves
Henrik "Kral" Andersen decided to leave Mercenary, the band parted ways with Kral in a friendly way. The reason of the departure hasn't been reveled but it's expected that Kral deliver a statement soon.

Black Label Society - Sign To Roadrunner Records
Roadrunner Records is proud to announce the signing of legendary guitarist Zakk Wylde and his band, Black Label Society.
Having sold over 1.4 million albums worldwide BLS is currently working with producer Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, Ozzy Osbourne, Red Hot Chili Peppers) on Shot To Hell, their first release for Roadrunner, which will be released this summer. "After spending a lifetime as Wylde Z. Coyote, I guess it was just a matter of time before I'd catch the Roadrunner," comments Wylde.
Shot To Hell is the follow up to Mafia, which debuted in March 2005 at #15 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart and at #1 on the Top Independent Albums chart. The top rock track "In This River" from Mafia will be on the upcoming MTV2 Headbangers Ball: The Revenge album, out April 11th.
BLS, who were just announced as the Ozzfest second stage headliner, will tour the world extensively in support of the new album, which is being finished now, even while Zakk also writes and records with Ozzy Osbourne for his new album.
"Signing Zakk and Black Label Society is an honor," stated Roadrunner Director of A&R Mike Gitter (Killswitch Engage, Cradle of Filth). "The guy is genuine, rock royalty whose talent is only matched by his vision. He is the real deal and his legacy as one of the greatest guitarists of all time has already been cemented."

Leaves Eyes - New EP
New EP "Legend Land"!
07.03.2006
The saga continues! Continuing the successful journey of "Vinland Saga", Leaves' Eyes have recorded a mini album presenting five brand-new exclusive tracks! The EP, called "Legend Land", will be released for the price of a single at the end of April/beginning of May 2006 in connection with the up-coming tours. The tracks are: "Legend Land", "Skraelings", "Viking's Word", "The Crossing", "Lyset". Alex Krull explains: "At first we'd planned to release a single from the "Vinland Saga" album, however, we decided to record a complete EP with brand new and exclusive songs. This is our way of saying thankyou to our fans and their great support. The past tours were amazing! As we will tour a lot this year it will take a while until we have finished our next full-length album. These five powerful and atmospheric tracks developed out of a couple of new brilliant ideas. Liv Kristine adds: "The new songs sound fantastic. They are very strong. We had a wonderful time continuing our work with the Viking concept and making further discoveries." This can only mean one thing: the adventurous journey continues!

Dying Fetus - New Material; Keep Looking Drummer
An update from the band was posted on Dying Fetus' Website:
"Apologies for the lack of updates, we know everyone is concerned about the drummer spot, our new album, touring, etc. First off we want to say we are anxious to record and tour after nearly a year off. The demos are going well, and we are spending extra time finalizing the music and composing the lyrics. Our tentative date to enter the studio to record the new album is mid-summer. Secondly, we encourage anyone who is interested in auditioning for the drummer spot to get in touch with us as soon as possible - although we have been holding out to find a permanent member, the show must go on and we have a contingent plan to hire a session drummer if necessary. As far as touring, for now we can only say that we have accepted some very interesting options for later in the year. We will announce names and dates once the details are confirmed!"

Into Eternity - Original Drummer To Record New CD
Guitarist Tim Roth posted the following message on Into Eternity's website:
"Hi everyone,
The new album is still underway for us. Right now we are looking at 11 songs for the new album. Each song is a bit more compact compared to what we usually have done in the past. Seven of the songs clock in at just over 3 minutes. I thought it would be different to try to fit in multiple time changes and riffs/solos in a shorter time frame. I know I have a low attention span when it comes to long songs, movies or whatever the case may be, so it is a small change for us. Every song is going to still have a lot going on, so our style will still be intact.
Now on to the main reason for this update. Into Eternity would like to welcome back our original drummer Jim Austin, who will be playing on our new record. Everybody is familiar with Jim's drumming style from our albums "Into Eternity" , "Dead or Dreaming" and "Buried In Oblivion". We are all happy that Jim is willing to help us out with this new record.
Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, we should point out that this arrangement is just for the recording of the album. Jim has a good job now that we wouldn't want him to lose. I think that this will be a good step for us and it will help maintain our sound that we have crafted for almost 10 years now."

Eternal Tears Of Sorrow - New Album Almost Ready
Check out the latest studio report from Eternal Tears Of Sorrow:
"What a ride this has been. We started writing material for this album in late October 2004, that's 16 months ago. And now, we're finally here. The mastering sessions are taking place today, and the artwork for the album will be finished within a week, too.
Still, you and we have to wait for eight more weeks. That's when the album comes out. But compared to the 16 months we've already spent on this album, 8 weeks is practically nothing, isn't it?"

To/Die/For - Part Ways With Guitarist
A message by To/Die/For was posted in their official Forum explaining the situation about the guitarist Mika Ahthiainen:
"Hello all,
with sad hearts To/Die/For has had to let their guitarist Mika "Alli" Ahtiainen go.
After playing and touring together for years, it just became obvious that we needed to go our separate ways. This was a decision Alli and To/Die/For made together and we hope you will respect our decision.
There is no big drama involved, nor is there anyone to blame. Sometimes things just go the way they need to go and the inevitable must be faced.
What had to be done, is now done and we must continue on our own paths and see where the road will take its travellers.
This is not easy for anybody to comprehend or accept at this point, we know that, but let's try and not make these times any harder than they already are for anyone of us. To make things calmer and easier To/Die/For must also state that they are NOT looking for any replacement guitarists at this point. They will proceed with the recordings of their fifth album as planned.
To/Die/For wishes all the best to Alli, as does Alli for To/Die/For and TDF fans.

Cruachan - New Album Is Ready
Keith Fay (Vocals, guitars & others instruments) posted the following message on Cruachan's website, concerning the new album:
"Hello! Yes we have finished the new album. Jesus Christ the production on "Pagan" was shite wasn't it? Glad to say that this is the best production I have ever been involved with, the sound is top top quality! Many thanks to Gail Liebling for his endurance. The release date has not been sorted, neither has the title but we will work on this ASAP. Matrin Walkyier was meant to sing on it but had to pull out at the last minute due to personal things at home, I had a chat with him, he feels really bad about it but to be honest he has much more important things to worry about right now. The song he was meant to do is called Diarmuid and Grainne, when I hear it now I actually think I'm glad he couldn't make it, you'll see why. Maybe we will do something in the future. Next project is the Cruachan Scat porn DVD."
