Iced Earth - Vocalist Is Leaving The Band Again
Matt Barlow is retiring from Iced Earth again.
Barlow cites his commitment to his family and the need for Iced Earth to tour more as the reasons for his retirement. He'll still perform with Iced Earth on all 2011 European festival dates, which will be his last with the band. Barlow fronted Iced Earth from 1992 till 2003, and rejoined late 2007.
Matt Barlow's heartfelt statement reads as follows: "Let me begin by saying how much of an honor it has been to share my time in Iced Earth with Jon and the guys... and with all of you! Since my return to the band in 2007, it has truly been extraordinary. I have had the opportunity to travel the world and see old friends and meet new ones. Though we had originally thought that the Iced Earth touring schedule would be very limited, we were able to play our fair share of concerts.
During that time we were also able to have a live DVD produced forthcoming Festivals Of The Wicked]. However, due to the rapidly changing music industry, it has become increasingly clear to recording artists that the only way to keep a band viable and to truly reach its potential is through live performances. That means that a band must reach out to new regions of the globe and become pioneers for their own livelihood. Since 2007, Jon and I have always had the best intentions for the future of Iced Earth, and we still do. However, given the band's projected touring schedule, Iced Earth's future and mine must now take separate paths.
On my departure from Iced Earth in 2003, I made a commitment to my wife and to the idea that we would start, and raise, our family together. Two years later, my first child was born and two years after that, my second. My youngest son was born about a week before Jon asked me to return to Iced Earth. It was a very exciting and emotional time for all of us, but we were all clear on our intentions. It is apparent to us now that regardless of our belief at that time, time can change an intended outcome. In this instance, I hope that change will not be regarded as a bad thing, but rather as a necessary part of evolution.
Jon and the band must venture into new realms to continue to grow Iced Earth. I commend him for his ideals and wish nothing but to share in his vision. I know that this is not the last time Jon and I will work together, but it will be my last endeavor with Iced Earth. Iced Earth is a name and force of its own. It has been very good to me and has allowed me to live a dream that others would give most anything for. I have been truly blessed to share this experience with everyone. I will continue to support Jon and Iced Earth in every way. I will also continue to create and perform in my own capacity.

Mötley Crüe - Co-Headlining Summer Tour With Poison
Glam giants Mötley Crüe and Poison are teaming up for a blockbuster summer tour, despite comments last year from the Crüe camp scoffing at the suggestion when the idea was floated last year.
Poison frontman Brett Michaels had publicly claimed a tour with the pair was a possibility to mark their respective 25th and 30th anniversaries but the claims were shot down by Mötley Crüe. But now it has been confirmed that the two will hit the road together, with support from the New York Dolls.
Brett Michaels recently addressed the question of whether there was any bad blood between the hugely successful bands. He said: "There may be some friendly competition but there is no bad blood at all on my part. Nikki Sixx (Crüe bassist) and I have spoken several times on the phone recently and the conversations went great.
Music is a universal language and I am extremely excited that this tour has come together as are the fans, they are truly going to see a great show. Honestly, I could care less about all the mudslinging, it gets nobody nowhere, and after all I have been through health wise in the last year, I am going to try to focus on what does matter which is the show, the fans, fun and personally throwing a hell of a backstage party."
Sixx has in the past been a vocal critic of Poison and in an online posting in 2004 he blasted suggestions his then-side project Brides of Destruction would tour with Poison (and Kiss) - labelling Poison 'followers'. He wrote: "No way in fucking hell would we (Brides of Destruction or Mötley Crüe) ever, ever tour with a fucking band like Poison. We have had talks with Kiss and I told them very clearly that we would not do the tour if they used Poison. That would be the death of us... I will not be attached to that kind of fake bullshit."
In a later interview with the Stamford Advocate Sixx continued: "I was in negotiations and said it depends who else is on the tour. If you're going to do a nostalgia thing, we're not interested. If you go get Jet or The Darkness, it sounds like fun. All of a sudden they come back with Kiss, the Brides and Poison.. There ain't no way in hell I'm doing that tour. I will not play with fucking Poison. There are followers and leaders. I'm not into followers."
Ha!

Slayer - Frontman Hospitalized In Australia (UPDATED)
Original news, posted on 27.02.2011
Slayer frontman Tom Araya has been hospitalized in Sydney, forcing the band to cancel tonight's set at Soundwave Festival.
No details about Araya's injury or illness have been released, but the decision to cancel was made just moments before the band was due to hit the stage at the Sydney Showgrounds tonight, February 27th.
Just before 6pm, festival promoter AJ Maddah tweeted: "Tom Araya has been taken to hospital. Slayer set looking unlikely today " but within five minutes "unlikely" had been upgraded to a confirmation of the band's cancellation with Maddah confirming that Araya will be kept in hospital overnight, forcing the cancelation of the band's set.
Araya's unexplained illness isn't the only medical issue for Slayer at the moment. The thrash metal veterans are touring with Exodus guitarist Gary Holt standing in for regular Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman who is recovering from surgery on his right arm.
According to Maddah, Araya "will be OK" for Slayer's next scheduled performance at Soundwave in Melbourne on Saturday 4th March.
Araya underwent back surgery in early 2010 forcing the band to stay away from the live circuit for several months.
UPDATE
A severe ear infection is the reason Slayer's Tom Araya was hospitalised yesterday and why the band had to cancel their Sydney Soundwave slot.
Tom's wife, Sandra, told the fans on Facebook that her husband is feeling much better, but it will be a few days before the test results are back.
The iconic Slayer frontman was kept at the hospital overnight but has reportedly been released earlier today.

Six Feet Under - Chimaira Guitarist Joins Ranks
Chimaira lead guitarist Rob Arnold has officially joined Six Feet Under.
Six Feet Under previously recruited Dååth drummer Kevin Talley, after the spontaneous departure of longtime drummer Greg Gall and bassist Terry Butler earlier this month.
The band released the following statement: "Just wanted to give you a Six Feet Under band update and let you all know that we would like to announce our good friend Rob Arnold will be joining SFU as 2nd rhythm guitarist for up coming touring duties, as well as collaborating on the new CD."
Commented Chris Barnes: "I couldn't be happier about the new songs and line-up! Rob and myself have been collaborating on new songs along with the bands new drummer, Kevin Talley for the past few months. We are all feeling really excited about the bands future, and the raw intensity of the songs that we have created together so far. THIS IS THE HEAVIEST MOST EXCITING MATERIAL THAT I'VE WORKED ON SINCE THE BLEEDING, AND I'M STOKED THAT ROB WILL BE HELPING OUT CREATING THIS CD WITH US! We've all known each other for a while and we're really looking forward to continue writing the new cd and future tours. We are committed to taking Six Feet Under to the next level of brutality!"
Commented Rob Arnold: "It's been an amazing honor and opportunity to have been called upon by one of my biggest idols, Chris Barnes! Six Feet Under and the Barnes era Cannibal Corpse stuff had enormous effects on me as a young musician, and still do to this day. In 1996, I was a kid in the front row screaming my head off to "Lycanthropy" and "Torn to the Bone"... And now here I am, being asked to play the songs on stage with the band! Dreams do come true! And the stuff we've been writing absolutely RIPS! Watch out!"

Machine Men - Call It Quits
Finnish heavy metal band Machine Men have officially broken up after thirteen years.
Here's the band's farewell message: "Things have been quiet for the past 2 years. During this time we have gone through many changes and we have been thinking about the future of the band. Unfortunately we feel that the challenges as a band would be too hard to overcome. After long conversations we have decided that the story of Machine Men ends here. It's better to end what we started together without bitterness than to make a new album we couldn't put our hearts and souls into. We wouldn't be the five guys that stuck together no matter what. We would be something else, not Machine Men.
This band has been the centre of our lives for over a decade. During these years we have experienced great and unforgettable moments on the road (and off). The thanks goes to all the people who have supported us and have come to see our gigs. It hasn't been an easy ride but yet we have taken all the shit with our heads held high. After all we are from Suolahti for fuck's sake! Even though it's sad, we end this with smiles on our faces and with loads of good memories to share over a pint.
The story of the band ends here but we'll continue to make music as individuals. We are grateful to so many people but most of all we would like to thank our fans - without you we would have been nothing!"

Oceans Of Sadness - Are Breaking Up
Belgian avantgarde/progressive metal band Oceans Of Sadness have called it a day.
The band's official break-up letter reads as follows: "First of all we want to thank all of you for supporting Oceans Of Sadness during these last 15 years. Thanks to you we had the chance to do a lot of cool things, much more than we ever dreamed of 15 years ago...
During these 15 years we've never really tried to be part of any particular scene musicwise and our image has always been the last thing we cared about. Creating our own sound and writing original and inspiring metal has always been our only real goal and we are proud of the road we travelled during the 5 albums we recorded, with The Arrogance Of Ignorance being the last one, released in 2008 on Scarlet Records.
We are really proud of all our music and we ourselves have always believed that we kept getting better and better at what we wanted to do. But now we feel that our story may have been told... Theoretically we could easily go on for another 15 years... but we won't. We feel time has come for us to relax for a while and who knows what happens in the future... I'm pretty sure all of us will continue making music, maybe together, maybe seperately, but more important is that we all have the feeling we can now close this chapter of our lives with pride and dignity.
We're not the kind of guys to close a door and throw away the key forever, not at all... however, we don't have the intention to come back in this shape in a few years either... music is about creativity and challenging yourself and right now we feel we got stuck in some sort of routine for quite a while now... we lack the energy to record yet another album, again negotiating with labels, just to end up with another deal that only costs us a lot of money, followed by a few shows... We'll see what happens in the future, like with everything in life: nothing is certain...
On a positive note: to celebrate the end of Oceans Of Sadness in style we decided to leave the scene with a blast and do a special last show. The date and other details will be released when all is certain.
Thanks for everything! We hope you will enjoy our music for many years to come!"
The Arrogance Of Ignorance was voted Best Avantgarde Metal album in 2008's Metal Storm Awards.
