Subzero temperatures in Luleå but local sons, melodic death metal bringers The Duskfall have announced some lineup changes. The band is located in Luleå, but former singer Aki Häkkinen is located in Oulu, Finland. So, both decided to go their separate ways. But the band's founder and guitarist MIkael Sandorf will take over vocal duties. Ronny Edlund, who was the band's guitarist between 2015-2016, rejoins.

German metallers Sodom started 2018 with major changes as Tom Angelripper parted ways with their drummer and guitarist . But the band will go on as a quartet and have hired new guns. Guitarist Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik has rejoined the group, with Stefan "Husky" Hüskens (Asphyx, Desaster) set to be the man behind the drum kit, and Yorck Segatz (Beyondition) also joining on guitar. A new single will be out in the summer 2018, with a new album to follow in the spring 2019.

On vocal duties, there's a new vocalist called Viixen, and she replaces Lucie V. At the same time, guitarist Martin Shellard also left the band and has been replaced by Baz Roze.

Vixen frontwoman Janet Gardner is recovering from surgery to remove blood clots in her brain, a condition known as a subdural hematoma. Subdural hematomas result from bleeding on the surface of the brain, and the condition is most often due to a serious fall or head injury. Vixen are also set to release a new album in 2018.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a former instructor at School of Rock Castle Shannon and rhythm guitarist for the heavy metal band Black Label Society between 1998-2013, pleaded guilty to sending sexually explicit messages to a 14-year-old female music school student. Nicholas Catanese, 46, of Findlay pleaded guilty to unlawful contact, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children before Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Donna Jo McDaniel.

Currently on tour in Europe, U.S. metallers Iced Earth have recently talked about the re-recording of their early albums. In a recent interview, guitarist and band leader Jon Schaffer discussed this idea. The band is going to be re-recording the early catalog because Schaffer doesn't own the master rights and there's no income coming from that. If they redo those records, then everybody in the band will be able to get a royalty in the future.

Swedish epic solitude seekers Candlemass just announced that they will play at the In Flammen Open Air festival in July! Furthermore, the doom metal band posted online that they are in the studio, but it's still unknown what they are recording exactly. The group has yet to release a full-length album with their new singer Mats Levén. He did however record vocals for the band's latest EP, Death Thy Lover, released in 2016.
