Lord - Recording New Album

Australian metallers Lord have issued the following update: recording has begun on the follow up to 2007's "Ascendence" album, entitled "Set In Stone".

Commented Lord mainman Lord Tim: "Work has finally started on the next Lord album! This album has a lot to live up to as "Ascendence" was very well received and we're all still fiercely proud of it, but I think what we've written will easily stand up to the quality of anything we've done before. Of course every artist says their new album will be their best work yet, but in this case rather than saying that, I would describe this as not necessarily better than our last album, but more so this is more true to what Lord is about; the definitive Lord album as it were. If I were to draw comparisons between Lord and Dungeon , "Ascendence" would be the equivalent of the "Resurrection" album, and "'Set In Stone" would be the equivalent of "A Rise To Power" - the album where most people would agree Dungeon really hit its stride.

"Set In Stone" is a true band collaboration with every song on the album being co-written, and the diversity of the material on here is greater than ever before - and if you know Lord's reputation, you'll realise that's a fairly big statement to make! We're obviously really excited about the material, but we're equally excited about the special guests we have on board. We can't say who they are yet, but I think it'll come as a shock to a lot of people when they find out! We're also in talks now for a worldwide release in early 2009, and we have some big news regarding touring too. So lots of huge things on the horizon! Keep an eye on the Lord site because we'll be keeping everyone updated as we progress through the recording and we'll be revealing more information about everything I've talked about here when we're given the go-ahead. Exciting times!"

The track listing for "Set In Stone" is as follows:

01. Spectres Of The Ascendant
02. Redemption
03. Set In Stone
04. 100 Reasons
05. Someone Else's Dream
06. Eternal Storm
07. Forever
08. Beyond The Light
09. The End Of Days
10. Be My Guest
11. New Horizons

There will also be additional bonus material for each territory release.

A promotional video for this news can be viewed here.

Lord was born from the ashes for Dungeon, one of Australia's longest running and well known metal bands until their dissolution in 2005. The band has gone on to tour with Queensrÿche, Nightwish, Saxon, Nevermore, Gamma Ray and more, and have released two albums, "A Personal Journey", "Ascendence" and an EP, "Hear No Evil" which contained a cover of the Kylie Minogue song "On A Night Like This" which has gained national mainstream Australian radio airplay. God Forbid - Album Details Unveiled

God Forbid guitarist Doc Coyle has posted the following announcement on the God Forbid MySpace:

"All of us in God Forbid are proud to unveil the cover artwork for our forthcoming album "Earthsblood"! The album layout and our spiffy new MySpace design were both done by our new partner in crime and artistic virtuoso Gustavo Sazes. Based out of Brazil, he hasn't done many American bands. For "Earthsblood", we thought it would be great to go with someone who isn't one of the usual suspects for album design in modern metal. The cover turned out much better than we ever hoped. It fully captures the dark and organic, yet emotional atmosphere of the album. The detail and abstract imagery is haunting and beautiful. The color scheme is perfect. I assure you all that the rest of the layout is just as impressive as the cover. Hopefully it will give people incentive to want to buy the CD (as opposed to downloading) to be able to enjoy the artwork first hand. This is my favorite God Forbid album artwork to date!"

"Earthsblood" cover art] tracklisting:

01. The Discovery
02. The Rain
03. Empire Of The Gun
04. War Of Attrition
05. The New Clear
06. Shallow
07. Walk Alone
08. Bat The Angels
09. Earthsblood
10. Gaia (The Vultures)

Release dates:

February 24 in North America
February 16 in Europe

Guns N' Roses - Leaker Guilty Of Copyright Infringement

Original news, posted on 21.10.2008

E! Online is reporting that, the California man charged with illegally leaking tracks of Guns N' Roses' near-mythical "Chinese Democracy", pleaded not guilty today in federal court.

Kevin Cogill, a 27-year-old blogger known as "Skewrl" who uploaded nine tracks from the forever-in-the-works LP on his Antiquiet in June, was busted Aug. 27.

Cogill was charged under a three-year-old federal anti-piracy law that makes it a felony to distribute a copyrighted work on computer networks before its release. He was released on $10,000 bail.

If convicted of the misdemeanor count, Cogill faces a possible five-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine. However for a jury to find him guilty, prosecutors must prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Cogill unlawfully disseminated the previously unreleased songs for profit.

Ex-Guns N' Roses and current Velvet Revolver lead guitarist Slash slammed Cogill in a recent interview, telling the Los Angeles Times, "I hope he rots in jail. It's going to affect the sales of the record, and it's not fair. The Internet is what it is, and you have to deal with it accordingly, but I think if someone goes and steals something, it's theft."

Assistant U.S. attorney Craig Missakian, who pursued the case with the FBI and recording industry, said, "In the past, these may have been viewed as victimless crimes. But in reality, there's significant damage."

Cogill posted the songs at a web sitecalled Antiquiet, where they were available for public access. The site crashed from the amount of traffic it received once word of the leaked tracks got out. Cogill took them down again after he was contacted by representatives of Guns N' Roses.

The tracks were allegedly taken from the band's yet-to-be-released "Chinese Democracy" album. Cogill, who used to work in distribution for the group's record label, says he received them from an anonymous source.

After his arrest, Axl Rose and crew issued a statement saying, "Though we don't support this guy's actions at that level, our interest is in the original source. We can't comment publicly at this time as the investigation is ongoing."

Welcome to the legal jungle.

UPDATE

The Los Angeles man accused of uploading nine pre-released Gun N' Roses tracks pleaded guilty Monday to one count of misdemeanor criminal copyright infringement.

Kevin Cogill faces a maximum of one year in federal prison, a $100,000 fine and five years probation when sentenced in Los Angeles federal court on March 3. But he faces no jail time in a deal (.pdf) cut with prosecutors, in which the 28-year-old agreed to cooperate with authorities.

Whiplash - Sign With Pulverised Records

Pulverised Records press release

Reactivated New Jersey metallers Whiplash have inked a worldwide deal with Pulverised Records. The band will enter the studio in early March to begin recording its sixth album, "Unborn Again", with guitarist/vocalist Tony Portaro handling the production duties. Co-producing the effort will be Harris Johns, who has previously worked with Coroner, Helloween, Kreator, Sepultura, Sodom and Voivod, among many others. The band will also document the full recording session and edit the footage into a free bonus DVD.

Commented Portaro: "We are thrilled to be working with Calvin and everyone at Pulverised Records. Their enthusiasm surrounding the "Unborn Again" project is unmatched by any of the labels that we have worked with in the past. It will also be my pleasure to work side by side with the Harris Johns and although the actual recording of "Unborn Again" will not begin until March of 2009, we are eagerly anticipating mixing and mastering with him at Spiderhouse in April."

Added Pulverised label manager Calvin: "We are more than just honored to have the legendary Whiplash step foot into the Pulverised roster, and pre-production works have already commenced for the new album titled "Unborn Again". The band who once gave you such classics like the 1985 maiden album "Power And Pain", the crushing "Ticket To Mayhem" and the innovative 1990 release "Insult To Injury" are back to set the hungry thrash maniacs on rampage!"

Whiplash will release a 25th-anniversary DVD in late 2009 entitled "25 Years Of Thrash". According to the group, the disc will feature "true stories that cover the band's history with Roadrunner Records and beyond, 1985-1990, "Power And Pain", "Ticket To Mayhem", "Insult To Injury"; The Massacre years, 1996-1998, "Cult Of One", "Sit Stand Kneel Prey"; "Thrashback"." It will also include rare concert footage, photos, interviews, backstage footage and much more. "25 Years Of Thrash" will also "take you back in time, hands on the mixing board in very raw setting as the band shares their experiences of the writing and recording of some of the greatest Whiplash albums released to date."

Portaro remained the pillar of the band while the lineup went through many changes over the course of their six full-length CDs, including "Cult Of One" in 1996 and "Sit Stand Kneel Prey" in 1997. During that time, drummer Joe Cangelosi supplied the drumming on "Cause For Conflict" for Germany's premier thrash band Kreator, which was released in 1995. Portaro handled the guitar work for Billy Milano's M.O.D. on a European tour in early 1998 with drummer Tony Scaglione, inviting the return of the original Whiplash lineup for a reunion CD entitled "Thrashback".

KISS - Confirm New Album

The following story is courtesy of World Entertainment News Network:

Glam rockers KISS have shot down rumors the band is retiring, by confirming they will be recording a new album.

Earlier this year it was reported the group was planning a reality TV show to audition replacement bandmembers, because founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons were getting too old to rock.

Frontman Stanley has now admitted that rumors about a new album are true, and they are currently back in the studio working on new tunes - and he's promising a treat for fans of the band's original 1970's sound.

Stanley tells Askmen.com, "It's going to be very much a vintage, classic, 70's KISS album without much regard to what's happened since then; it's back to the roots."

Novembre - New Bass Player, Writing New Songs

Italy's Novembre have a new bass player. The band announced the following on their MySpace blog:

"The tormented role of bass player is passed on to Valerio Di Lella, already the band's live sound engineer for years, and singer of Death Metal band Grimness. Novembre, who recently parted company with Luca Giovagnoli, are glad to officially welcome Valerio on board.

In Valerio's own words: "I'm so thrilled to join this band, as being always on the road with them as a soundguy had made me one of them anyways. Moreover, we totally share the same musical tastes and I'm so digging the new songs which are taking shape these days".

Indeed, the band's just started the writing sessions for their next studio album. It's way too early to say anything about it except for the unmistakeable Novembre's style which is always there and ain't gonna be altered.

Meanwhile, "Classica" re-release is gonna be supported by an extensive European tour with Tiamat and The 69 Eyes in February and March 2009."
