Enslaved - N. American Tour Cancelled

As mentioned in the Nuclear Blast Records newsletter, Enslaved issued the following statement:

"It is with great regret that Enslaved have to announce the cancellation of the North American "Vertebrae"' tour Swallow The Sun and Keep Of Kalessin] scheduled for May 2009. At the heart of the issue lies a tour that was hard to get together in the first place so we've decided to let the whole tour be cancelled and start working on setting up a new North American tour all the way from scratch again... Our sincere apologies to all the fans that were ready to come out to these shows; but rest assured ? we are working day and night on setting up the new tour that will replace these dates."

Delain - New Album Due Next Year

February 9th will see the release of "April Rain", the eagerly awaited new album from Dutch metal band Delain. "April Rain" follows the successful 2006 debut "Lucidity", which sky-rocketed the career of the band in their home country of The Netherlands. "The new album "April Rain" is a real group effort, that's what we're most proud of" says Martijn Westerholt, keyboard player and composer for Delain.

Delain has been Westerholt's project from the start and the debut "Lucidity" was recorded with a star studded cast of musical friends. Westerholt: "The album was never meant to be played live, but the demand was strong, so we eventually got a live band together. That's the band we've recorded "April Rain" with. Compared to "Lucidity", I'd say that this album musically is more coherent and consistent because of the fact that it was recorded all the way through by the same musicians. Production wise this album has more of a metal feel to it, as opposed to the more 'poppy' production of "Lucidity". Also the songs tend to be a bit faster. Less 'doomy' than on our debut. That said, that album was never intended to be played live and when performing we all felt that these kind of songs were missing in our repertoire. We can't wait to go out and play these new songs on stage! Another big difference is that there are almost no guest appearances on this album. There's only Nightwish vocalist Marco Hietala, whom we also worked with on "Lucidity", providing guest vocals on the song "Control The Storm"."

Currently Delain is in the studio working on the final details of "April Rain", which will be mixed and mastered soon after. The rest of 2008 and early 2009 will be used to go on tour again. First up is a tour through Germany in December. Then on February 5th the album will be launched in Amsterdam at a special event at the Melkweg venue before hitting the stores on February 9th. Westerholt adds: "And after that we'll tour Europe with Kamelot and do multiple headline shows throughout Europe. I'd never intended Delain to be a real touring band? but now that we've become one, I'm definitely enjoying it to the fullest. We're looking forward to seeing our fans again real soon!"

Dark Funeral - MNW/No Fashion Records Dispute Over

Original Dark Funeral guitarist Lord Ahriman has posted the following update:

"Seven years of pure bullshit has finally come to an end... un-fucken- believable!

Without going into any details, (which I'm not allowed to either), what's most important here and now is that we finally have obtained the rights to our back catalogue, including the publishing rights. That includes; "The Secrets Of The Black Arts", "Vobiscum Satanas", "Teach Children To..." and "Diabolis Interium".

And from now on, NO one but Caligula (vocals, bass) and I own the rights to above mentioned albums. One may believe I/we would be totally thrilled about this, be running around in pentagrams, throwing bibles in a fire and whatnot, but I honestly feel pretty empty. Guess it'll take a while to let it all sunk in to realize that this battle finally is over, after seven f*ing years! I'm sure I'll get it all eventually... and celebrate it one way or another. But right now I feel nothing.

Anyway, somehow I feel that this is already old news, an old chapter in our dark saga. And I won't spend any more of my valuable time to ever put "their" name in my mouth again. So let us just put this behind us immediately. Let us now focus on gathering some new energy, look at the future - a future without label hassles and such utterly bullshit. It's time to set full course to complete the new album, booking new tours among many other grand things, which I know many of you are waiting for. Basically, let´s get busy again, and foremost enjoy being busy again!

PS. Please respect the fact that we won't answer any questions regarding this, already old and forgotten news. Thanx!"

Dark Funeral are currently working on new material for their upcoming 2009 studio album.

Sonata Arctica - Busy Working On New Material

Sonata Arctica keyboardist Henrik Klingenberg has posted the following European tour update:

"Tomorrow (22.11.2008) is the last show of the European tour, I think we've all been surprised about the great turnout, after all this was the second headlining tour with this album ("Unia"). Somehow these last days have gone by pretty fast and before we know it we're gonna be in Russia and then that's it... for now. I won't go into any extensive comments about the upcoming album, mainly because nobody knows how it will sound at this point, and the few songs I've heard by Tony Kakko (vocals) can't paint the whole picture. It's gonna be really interesting to work with Elias Viljanen (new guitarist) in the studio and I'm sure we'll come up with something great.

During the two months (December - January) when Tony is writing songs, I'll be playing the keyboards for Elias' new solo album, and in the spring we hopefully can play some shows in Finland. Mental Care Foundation will also do some shows, if I can find the rest of the guys... which shouldn't be impossible. What more... hmm... Silent Voices' fourth album is almost complete except for the vocals. I'll let you know more as these things unfold. I'll try to post something about Russia later."

Sonata Arctica's new album is expected to be released somewhere in the last quarter of 2009.

Year Of Desolation - On Hiatus

John Hehman, guitarist of US Thrash metallers Year Of Desolation, have posted the following update on the band's MySpace:

"Year Of Desolation... has been around since 2001... we've had some rough spots (constant drummer issues), and some amazing spots (touring with Dying Fetus, Cephalic Carnage, Incantation etc.), this appears to be... the latter... To be honest, i don't even know where to begin, so i'll tell you what i know:

The music for almost 14 new songs have been written towards another record... whether or not it happens.... is up in the air. After we "fullfilled" OUR end of the contract with Prosthetic Records, we've been searching for a new home, and during this time, things have changed, people have gotten "real" jobs, people haven't spoken in months, and some people have just... "vanished" into thin air. All 5 of us haven't been in the same room since March of this year. Practices have been brought up numerous times, but everyones schedule is conflicting. This blog is not about airing any dirty laundry of any sort. This is a blog that we felt you, the fans, deserved.

I'm not saying Year Of Desolation is Dead, but in the current state of things, we (as a whole) are definetly MIA (missing in action), I can say that we don't want to leave you guys hanging and we'll 100% figure out something soon (one way... or another), until then, support metal and stay true to what you believe in!"

Rammstein - New Album On The Way

Original news, posted on 07.11.2008

Rammstein have announced the following:

"Now that the band has finished pre-production in Berlin for its new album, Operation "Album 6" is going forward full steam ahead. Christoph Schneider arrived in Los Angeles last week to meet with Jacob Hellner and production team (i.e., currently Ulf Kruckenberg and Florian Ammon) to undertake preparations for recording of all the drum tracks. Also to arrive in L.A. this week for the drum sessions, Paul and Richard. Finally, a studio has been rented near San Francisco for the bulk of the main recording work, and the band will go into retreat there for several weeks starting on November 9th, 2008. Clear the decks, the Rammstein tanker is once again under steam!"

UPDATE

Rammstein have issued the following minor update via their newsletter:

"While Rammstein are recording their newest studio album in sunny California, the first snow has fallen today in Berlin. You have sent us a lot of questions since news reached you via the Rammstein website about the recordings for the new album. Many rumours have flooded the internet since then. The production of the album will take some time and a release isn't planned before autumn 2009. If everything goes according to plan, we'll hear the first single before summer 2009 and be able to greet Rammstein at the beginning of their tour before the end of the year. This tour, which is to stretch far into the year 2010, will finally give you enough of a chance to see the band live again after the long period of waiting. Above all, there are some surprises in store for our loyal fans and Community members in the 2009/2010 tour year."

Lion's Share - New Album Coming Soon

Blistering Records is pleased to announce that Swedish melodic heavy metal masters Lion's Share are putting the final touches on "Dark Hours", the followup to 2007's "Emotional Coma", for release in March 2009.

The band states, "The new songs are simply awesome and everybody that have heard it, think it's our best album to date. The red thread lyric wise on this album is that all songs are about things that happened in the late sixties; a decade known for many good things. However, we're not describing the happy times of the 60's: We give you the "Dark Hours". Musically it's more straight forward and faster than ever. The songs are filled with energy and great hooks."

Tenative tracklisting is:

Judas Must Die
Phantom Rider
Demon In Your Mind
Heavy Cross To Bear
The Bottomless Pit
Full Metal Jacket
The Presidio 27
Barker Ranch
Napalm Nights
Space Scam
Behind The Curtain
King Of All The Kings (bonus track - included on the limited edition digipak and Japanese version)

Negură Bunget - Re-Releases Out Soon

Negura Bunget's first four releases will soon be re-issued in Digipaks with improved artwork.

"From Transylvanian Forest" is the only demo recording from Wiccan Rede, the legendary precursors to Negura Bunget. This re-release with two bonus tracks lays bare the roots of Negura Bunget in an unique way.
On their debut album "Zîrnindu-Sã", the Romanians celebrate a furious and primal black metal with sophisticated drumming and racing guitars. For many fans, this record still marks the band's pinnacle. The re-release comes with a bonus CD featuring a previously unreleased alternative recording of the entire album.
The potential hinted at on these releases was fully tapped on the EP "Sala Molksa". "Sala Molksa" offers highly original symphonic black metal with a penchant for complex arrangements. This re-release comes with a bonus CD as well, containing an unreleased alternative recording of the EP.
"Mãiastru Sfetnic", finally, is the masterpiece by the 'early' Negura Bunget, written large in the history of black metal. This album is characterized by a stunningly dense and oppressive atmosphere and has secured the band a position in the pantheon of black metal.

All of these Digipak CDs are limited to 2,000 copies each. There will also be a special 6 CD box, strictly limited to 500 copies, including a woven Negura Bunget logo patch and a sticker.

Over The Rainbow - Rainbow Reunion With Ritchie Blackmore's Son In The Makes

Blabberemouth reports the following news: former Rainbow musicians Joe Lynn Turner, Tony Carey, Bobby Rondinelli and Greg Smith have united with a second-generation Blackmore to form Over The Rainbow.

Over The Rainbow is:

Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow 1980-1984) - Vocals
Tony Carey (Rainbow 1975-1978) - Keyboards
Bobby Rondinelli (Rainbow 1980-1983) - Drums
Greg Smith (Rainbow 1994-1997) - Bass
Jürgen "J.R." Blackmore - Guitar

Carey, who has produced several artists (including Joe Cocker and David Knopfler) since his Rainbow days, says, "Having done everything from country to opera, I thought it would be fun to play some rock again without the burden of singing everything."

Rondinelli adds, "Over The Rainbow reunites members of one of the most distinctive sounding bands of all time and introduces a hidden treasure to the world in J.R. Blackmore."

The son of the iconic Rainbow founder/guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, Jürgen Blackmore is a critically acclaimed guitarist in his own right and agreed to join this endeavor after realizing how intense the demand was for a Rainbow "reunion." Over The Rainbow marks the first time that four members from three different eras of Rainbow will take the stage together along with J.R. Blackmore.

Rainbow has spawned over 20 albums (five gold, four silver), seven Billboard Hot 100 and Mainstream Rock tracks, six Top 75 UK songs and at least seven MTV frequently played videos. Their longest tenure was from its inception through 1984 when it went on hiatus so Blackmore could reform Deep Purple. A decade later, Rainbow toured and recorded an album. Since then, Ritchie Blackmore has turned his focus toward Blackmore's Night.

Since 1998, former members of Rainbow and their respective management offices have been bombarded with requests for Rainbow to reunite. Carey, Rondinelli, Smith and Turner answered "the call" but agreed that the only legitimate way that this could be accomplished was with a Blackmore on guitar. Enter: J.R. Blackmore.

How does the younger Blackmore feel about sharing the stage with musicians he grew up watching perform in concert with his legendary father? "I have not worked with them," says Blackmore, "But I have admired them since I was young. That makes them like brothers."

Greg Smith agrees that the market for Rainbow's brand of rock is under served. "I know there is a big demand for this music," he says. "The fact that all members are ex-Rainbow from different periods in the band's history will give the music the integrity it deserves. A Blackmore on guitar will give it even more authenticity."
