Roadburn 2017 - First Bands, Warning Performing 'Watching From A Distance'

Get ready, Roadburn enthusiasts because next year's edition is already shaping up nicely! The first announcement was made today and Coven will perform their first ever European show (and the band's first show at all in decades); John Dyer Baizley will be their 2017 curator and Baroness will perform on the main stage as part of his curation; Warning will perform Watching From A Distance in full; GNOD will celebrate their tenth anniversary as their artist in residence. Plus, Zeal And Ardor, Pillorian, Perturbator, Schammasch, Les Discrets and last but not least Oranssi Pazuzu will be performing on the Main Stage (good news for those who missed out this year).

Joining Patrick on stage will be Marcus Hatfield on bass guitar and Christian Leitch on drums, completing Warning's final line-up, and also guitarist Wayne Taylor, who has played bass for the band for some time almost twenty years back, between the demos and the first album, The Strength To Dream.

From Patrick Walker: "I've been approached fairly frequently over the past several years about doing this and I only knew that the time and the circumstances would need to be right. I also understand that this record has left an indelible mark on a lot of people, for most of whom, by the time they became acquainted with the album, were unable to see us perform that music live. I am humbled that there is still an interest in Watching From A Distance all these years on, and I'm going to be very moved to be able to play it for an audience at Roadburn 2017."

If that's not enough to get you excited, many more bands will still be announced.

The 22nd edition of Roadburn Festival will take place on April 20th-23rd, 2017 at the 013 venue, in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Tickets for Roadburn 2017 will go on sale from Thursday, 20 October 2016. They will be available to purchase in person from the 013 venue from 6.30pm local time - and ticket buyers are invited to the pre-sale party at the venue featuring Ortega and Gomer Pyle.

Tickets will go on general sale at 9pm (NED and mainland Europe) / 8pm (UK)/ 3pm (East Coast USA)/ 12 noon (West Coast USA).

Rod has been mentioning this idea as well, perhaps we can discuss all pitching in for a hotel a little down the line

Actually I'd probably go for the urban campsite since all other affordable options will already be sold out by the time I know for sure whether or not I'll be able to go.

I'm considering campsite as well... I was hoping for hotel if my sister was up for it next year but she won't make it. Last time I checked you sort of rented a "bunker" (with heat and 4 beds) but the details are a bit fuzzy so I can't tell much.

I looked into the "bunker" option this year, called "flexihotel". Problem is that it's not too viable on your own (so had to go for hotel), but I think 3 or 4 people option is great and waaaaaaay cheaper than hotels.

Details:

In these rooms you'll find a towel and bed linen, a table with two chairs, storage space for clothes, a power supply so you can charge your cellphone, a heater, and lights!. You'll get your own key so you can lock your room while you're at the festival - a ?100 cash deposit is required when collecting your keys, which will be returned when checking out (minus any damage costs incurred).

Flexotel for 2 people, from Thursday, through Sunday (4 nights) - ? 360
Flexotel for 3 people, from Thursday, through Sunday (4 nights) - ? 420
Flexotel for 4 people, from Thursday, through Sunday (two bunks, 4 nights)- ? 480

The only downside of the campsite is that you have to wake up pretty early if you don't like cold showers. Also the phone charging situation if you stayed in a tent was hell.

Don't mind cold showers in the morning, it's almost better to wake up And the flexhotel have power supply for phones, so should be fine. No way on earth I'm staying in a tent in The Netherlands in April, would probably freeze to death haha.

On the night of the Afterburner the temperature was 0°C this year. Had to use two sleeping bags and wear two hoodies in my tent. I survived somehow.
