Zeal & Ardor - Release New Song
Zeal & Ardor have released a new song called "Firewake" for Sub Pop's Single Club Vol. 7 and it will be the only way to obtain a physical copy of the song in form of a coloured 7" vinyl. Luckily it's also available through the official Bandcamp page together with an instrumental track called "Cinq".
Manuel Gagneux says about the song: "’Firewake’ was written a while ago, but didn't thematically fit on the last record. I really like the atmosphere of it and am happy to have found a proper home for the track. The bilingual aspect of it mirrors the high contrast in energy found in it. I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed recording it!"

Hard to believe that once upon a time this was one of the most original and unique bands around. The debut is still played to death by me, but everything since then is just fetid. What a tragic fall from grace.

Manuel is one of my favourite songwriters. His other project Birdmask is my most listened-to artist. But I gotta agree with the complaints about Zeal & Ardor. I love everything from the self-titled demo to the second album. But their last album (and SOME of the songs between 2 & 3) just feel very generic. Like so many of the riffs are just a single note repeated in a different rhythm. Firewake kinda just sounds like Gotterdammerung from the last album. Every song on the last album just feels like a different version of two-three of the other songs. Also kinda surprised Cinq was released for Zeal & Ardor and not Birdmask but eh.

I can undertand people not liking what Zeal & Ardor has produced since Devil Is Fine. I'm quite a huge fan though and really enjoyed the latest album too. That being said I do think these two tracks a very meh. :\
