Atlantic Records, such a legendary and important label in metal, wasnt there few 80's bands what re release and tour their Atlantic years albums?
No, these are two different pairs of shoes.
What you mean are the box sets and compilations
The Atlantic Years, which Atlantic usually releases a few years after the end of the respective contracts to squeeze a few last bucks out of the old deals. Most bands (
Overkill,
Skid Row,
Melvins...) didn't sanction these releases, didn't promote them, and don't consider them part of their regular discography. Needless to say, under normal circumstances no band would ever consider doing a tour in honor of a former label.
However, what's special and different about this
Vicious Rumors tour and the associated re-release of their classic albums is that the band beat their old label to the punch: they released the boxed set
The Atlantic Years through another label. One could say they have turned the tables, since they are not only taking advantage of the success of these old albums, but also of the almost legendary reputation of their former label. Financially and legally speaking, this tour has nothing to do with
Atlantic Records.
I think that's a very clever move, somehow it's even funny.
