Steve Vai - Former Bassist Dead At 72

Guitar World is reporting that funk bass legend T.M. Stevens passed away last Sunday (March 10th) at the age of 72 after years of battling health issues. In addition to a solo career, as well as working as a session bassist with everyone from James Brown to Billy Joel, Stevens contributed to Steve Vai's 1993 album Sex & Religion (which also featured a then-unknown Devin Townsend) and had also worked with Savatage and Trans-Siberian Orchestra guitarist Al Pitrelli.

Stevens' death was confirmed on Facebook by performance artist/musician Carrie Beehan, who revealed that T.M. had been hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs late last month and had been diagnosed dementia back in 2017. She wrote: "July 27, 1951 – March 10, 2024, Thomas Michael Stevens (T.M Stevens) – I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved T.M. this evening at 10 p.m."

A Real Mönkey
RIP To an unknown legend

I’ll be real though: when I glanced at the title my heart dropped cause I misread it that Vai himself had died.
