I don't know... I watched parts of the stream and it doesn't convince me at all. I would have preferred if the singer had not tried to imitate Chester but had done something of her own with his songs.

Maybe an attempt to avoid constant comparison to Chester? Didn't really work out based on comments I've seen online. I think no matter who they would have picked, they would be under scrutiny though.

What other bands come to mind that have had a frontman pass away, and had the band continue successfully? Acca Dacca?

True, the new vocalist is quite good, she can surely sing. If i were to complain about anything here, it would not be the vocals.

Not all metal but these band spring to mind aside from AC/DC: Gotthard, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alice in Chains, Exodus maybe? Hot take but am hoping to be able to add Nevermore to this list at some point.

Anyway back on the topic, imo the song rips, I hope this new era of the band works out for them.

Mayhem

And Exodus too, they've continued on twice without Paul Baloff. First after Bonded By Blood and second after he died.

The Black Dahlia Murder now has a new(-ish) singer. Brian Eschbach is technically the only original member left in the band, but he's the one that's taking Trevor Strnad's place as the vocalist after his death.

As she should. But seeing comments on facebook I think 95% of them have been about her vocals (which are actually kinda good imo) and "oh no she is not Chester boohoo".
Most people don't like her because of her vocals. I don't like her because of her disgusting cult.

Also, she may have been supportive of Danny Masterson (although I don't have a clean source for that at the moment). If it's true then it's even worse. I suppose it's best to wait for her and the band to speak out which will probably happen sooner rather than later.

No, they washed up years ago and the singer died, we don't need yet another comeback band from that era.

I like her voice and the song is unexpectedly very good. Boxcar is right, they chose a woman to avoid the comparisons to Chester, as much as possible.

I see their drummer has taken the John Deacon route and is not taking any part, and the guitarist isn't touring with them. Between that and the massive backlash they seem to be getting about the scientology stuff I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't last too long

Lol I couldn't care less about whatever hoodoo some metal musicians are doing in their spare time. Creative people tend be into all kinds of weird shit, that's part of their whole personality. Always been that way. I can guarantee that if you go read some history of occultism, new age and modern spiritualism you'll find that those kinds groups are usually full of artists from all walks of life.

Chester's son not happy https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/linkin-parks-chester-benningtons-son-jaime-slams-band-over-new-line-up/Y27ILVOA5JEQLFYSQD4SCHPGAI/

I hate headlines that use the word "slam" in this context. Anyways, how are the band "betraying" their late singer? Bands continue on after members pass away (for various tragic reasons) all the time, and most don't wait seven years to do so. How is this different? Is it because she's a cultist? I doubt the general public really cares about that considering the success of various other scientologists.

From what I can tell from having skimmed through some reddit posts about the announcement, it seems like there's two common complaints mentioned that I somewhat align with the son's statement:
A) that she's actively in a cult and actively supported a sexual predator in said cult, while Bennington was sexually abused as a child, and;
B) because Scientology disavows psychology/psychiatry, seems like some people have issue with them getting a vocalist who (I don't know if she's said something publicly or this is implied by involvement in Scientology) doesn't believe in psychology and mental health when the previous vocalist committed suicide due to mental health issues

Thanks for the context, that does put things in a different light for me.
