This could potentially belong to "Arena", but seeing as its not really a battle it should suiting here. Anyways, I bought this magazine and the cover says "Unholy Trinity". Which bands do you think this magazine was talking about? ...Cradle of Filth, Satyricon, and Darkthrone...that is some unholy trinitiy if I've ever heard of it! Then I began to reflect, how many times have I heard this cliche term? You have the Alliance with Slayer, Amon Amarth, etc. (also, VERY unholy), Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, etc..

Which bands would you say are the REAL "Unholy Trinity" or for the sake of the topic sake "Alliance".

My three would be:

Deathspell Omega
Katharsis
Funeral Mist

Opinions will probably vary considering on people's taste in genre, but hopefully not TOO many

Cradle of Filth+Behemoth+ Dimmu Borgir (that was in Revolver last Christmas as Unholy Trinity I believe)

As some people were quite unclear, I've decided to be a bit more informative. As for myself, LIVE would be preferable. However, what are the odds of Deathspell Omega playing live?! AND on top of that, to tour with the German Giants, Katharsis, AND FUNERAL MIST(not saying they're German)!

Or ultimately, the most "UNHOLY" line-up, in the real definition of the the word. I mean, In Flames isn't that Unholy.... at all.

If you're talking about Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride with Anathema, that was the Peaceville Trio and not really an Unholy Trinity or Unholy Alliance. What exactly are you asking, my three favourite (live) bands? The most blasphemous three bands?

As for the latter, I'd agree with your three bands that are quite blasphemous or 'raw' without becoming ridiculous.

In general, could be live or could be what you consider as the ultimate "Unholy Trinity". I mean, the magazine I bought has BIG, BOLD letters "UNHOLY TRINITY: Cradle of Filth, Satyricon and Darkthrone" and they just interview the bands, asked them how they felt about black metal in general and asked each one how they felt about the other two bands.

For example: Talking to Cradle, asked them what there opinion is on Satyricon and Darkthrone. Talking to Darkthrone, asked them what they're opinion on Satyricon and CRADLE is. Blah, Blah, Blah..

I would say that Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Motorhead could be considered the ultimate Metal trinity. They're united in the way they're very well known and associated with Metal by everyone, have had such wide recognition and influence, and get respect from all subgenre fanatics, whether it's glamsters, doomsters, or the most die-hard underground Black Metallers. Bands of various different styles do cover versions of songs by those 3 bands.

They're bands that have broad appeal and wide recognition, despite their popularity. (This kind of ties in with the other thread about 'The Next Iron Maiden?'). In fact, even non-rock fans tend to have a certain amount of respect for those 3 bands. (Some may say Metallica instead of Motorhead, perhaps, but I'm saying Motorhead for the sake of this thread just because Metallica tend to have more haters whereas Motorhead appeals to everyone).

I would say... more recently Children of Bodom, In Flames and Arch Enemy. The unholiest of unholy trinities, with their popularity soaring above the classic founders (at least in my generation) it is blasphemy and I feel it qualifies them.

But if we are talking about Unholy in a good way (duh, I forgot we were talking about metal here) I would have one for every decade:
Atheist/Celtic Frost/Sadus (1984)
Empyrium/Sceptic/Vintersorg (1994)
Ahab/Kromlek/Wolves In The Throne Room (2004)

I'm still really unclear as to what this threads purpose is, is it the ultimate line-up for a tour? Or is the most blasphemous/Anti-Christian line-up? Very little is explained...

Deathspell Omega? shut the fuck up CDR, they're nihilists, you're out of your element!

ok, joking aside, a trio of three bands that i'd like to see live is Manowar, Judas Priest and Iced Earth, they've been my three favorite bands for a long time and i've only seen Priest live out of that list.

and 2 hilarious comedic unholy trinities should, in my eyes, consist of either Venom, Dethklok and Anal Cunt(for "extreme" metal), or a more hard-rock oriented one with Spinal Tap, Nanowar and Tenacious D.

Hmm, for me it would probably be Opening: Chrome Division, Support: Venom, the Headlining: Motorhead. Motorhead is somewhat anti-religious, Venom could obviously be considered "Unholy" and the Chrome Division opening is just a nice way to compliment the other 2 bands sound I suppose.

HAHAHA! I love you

Good choices with the hilarious Metal Trinity!

Why not just make 10 the loudest on the amplifier?!
Because... this one's got 11...that's more than 10.

Showing my age a little...

Possessed, Entombed and Death. In that order.

Though I'm definitely on board with Sabbath/Priest/Maiden.

The closest I've come in real life, and it was pretty damn unholy, was Testament, Megadeth and Judas Priest on the Painkiller tour.

The Absence, Ensiferum and Amon Amarth would have been nearly perfect if it hadn't been interrupted by a really weak set from arguably the most unholy band on the bill in Belphegor.

For a little genre crossing and more modern take, I would endure some serious hardship to see Behemoth, Amon Amarth and Slayer together.

Or Oranssi Pazuzu, Ahab and Process of Guilt.

There are so many possibilites...

Black Funeral
Satanic Warmaster
Lord Belial

Death Metal(US):
Incantation
Immolation
Suffocation

Death Metal(Euro):
Dismember
Pestilence
Blood Red Throne

Black Metal:
Mayhem
Emperor
Immortal

Honorable mentions:
Europe: Gehenna, Vader, Impaled Nazarene
U.S.: Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation, Bloodbath

I had to go bust this up by genre to fit "unholy" for me. This really was too tough for me to put it up to a group of 3 for me for it all. So much great "unholy"... So tough...

For an ideal Black Metal line up (considering all bands disbanded or not are active), I would go with Taake-Emperor-Dissection. For Death Metal I would go with Morbid Angel-Dismember-Death. For fun, this is in my opinion the lineup that would lead mankind to extinction Anaal Nathrakh-Benighted-Cryptopsy or Suffocation---->Brutal.

I don't really understand this thread, I take it it's simply 3 bands you'd like to see play together right? If so some trio's I'd cream over:

Blut Aus Nord / Deathspell Omega / The Ruins Of Beverast

The Meads Of Asphodel / Sigh / Transcending Bizarre?

Warning / Candlemass (with Messiah) / Solitude Aeturnus

Blah blah et cetera

For a really unholy live trinity I would go with three bands that are still going strong today:
Nile, Behemoth and Immolation (not in any particular order - now that I think about, to have all three play at the same time would sound pretty unholy).

For a classic unholy trinity, I also like the combo of Black Sabbath, Maiden/Judas/Motörhead (can't really make up my mind there. Personally, I don't get all the fuzz about Maiden, but I recognize that they are one of the greatest metal bands).

For some old school unholiness, you could go with Obituary, Entombed, Death (probably in that order - maybe Entombed first).

I'd like like to see Meshuggah mixed up in some unholy trinity. They are very unique, stand out amongs the crowd of metal bands and have been inspirational to a lot of modern bands. Maybe they could be mixed with Slayer and some other band - any suggestions?

No, i will keep it the same, no one can replace CC for me, about Cryptopsy it will be like this:

Infernal Drumming Alliance:
Cryptopsy, Nile, Lykathea Aflame.

or

TDM Unholy Alliance:
Necrophagist, Gorguts, Cryptopsy.
