Five years my friends, we had to wait five really long years to have the luck to finally listen to the new Symphony X. The band promised something great and "heavy", I can tell you that they didn't lie to their fans because "Paradise Lost" is probably the heavier and darker album of the American combo but also one of their bests. It's good to see that SX is back and better than ever and after all even if it was long, we didn't wait for nothing. "Paradise Lost" is an amazing album damn so, be prepared for one of the biggest blast of the year 2007!!!

Damn, its crazy how one little factoid can make such a difference
Ive loved this album for over a year now, listening to it multiple times each and every month and today I just learned this is a concept album about the poem paradise lost. The poem is about Lucifer falling from heaven. When i head that i immediately listened, once again, and damned if it didnt just pop!
its safe to say i now love paradise lost even more

I've always been a huge fan of Symphony X but I forgot to check up on them being so busy in recent years. I just listened to Paradise Lost a month or two ago and I can't help but play it fairly frequently on my ipod. It's f*ing amazing! Definitely one of their best works.

This album is awful in my opinion. I've never been able to enjoy any part of it. Russel's vocal style has changed, and michael's solos are uninspired watered down versions of his past ones. I have a feeling that this album is rated highly by a completely different crowd than their old fans. Ugg I can't stand this album. : (

I really like this band but this is overrated. 8.8? just as good as V and Divine Wings? I really don't think so. 7 and that's just for the excellent riffs and music on the album. I really don't like the vocals on most tracks, except the chorus of set the world on fire and the title track. 7/10 and not more...

So far this has to be my favourite album of all time. As expected from Symphony X, musical genius strikes again!

I wanted to write a review on this one, but I changed my mind. It's pointless. I can't believe that such great musicians are creating such worthless music. To sum it up: performance is exceptional, production is great, emotional value is close to zero. It leaves you totally empty. Well, not empty, in fact I'm totally pissed off.

While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, It is against the grain, indeed.

The year is not 1997.

That is exactly why it's good they didn't continue playing power/prog keyboard metal and moved towards more straightforward heavy metal influences. The metal scene was already overloaded of this music, it was a damn good time for a change and to add more personality to their music.

I agree to a certain extent although 6 is too harsh for me. Although it has some great moments and great music, I would put at least 4 SX albums ahead of this one...

I like this album more than anything else by Symphony X. I find V very overrated and forgettable. Enjoyed The Odyssey to an extent though. Not a big fan of Russell's voice, and I prefer more orchestral/symphonic sounds than neo-classical. Still a great album though, awesome instrumental opener, and the title track is phenomenal.

Also: "Seven" is 7 minutes long, track 7 on the album (Not including the intro), has solo sections in 7/4 time, and starts on page 67 in the guitar tab book
