Doomsday Machine marks Arch Enemy's third installment in their new millennium Angela Gossow period. This album certainly has the slickest production of all three Gossow albums. Gossow herself has been produced in order to sound harsher vocally, sometimes bordering on black metal screeching on some songs. Fans of previous Gossow albums will enjoy Doomsday Machine but will be sad as this is the last Arch Enemy album with Christopher Amott on it. Amott left the band in the summer of 2005 in order to continue his studies.

The 2005 release "Doomsday Machine" by Arch Enemy is yet another example of the band's ability to create brilliant melodic death metal, in their own unique way. Stepping further away from their older, original sound, Arch Enemy has created a new album consisting of songs that vary in speed and overall sound. "Doomsday Machine" is a highly entertaining mix of songs ranging from a slow, haunting intro to blistering, bone chilling riffs.

There seems to be a lot of praise for Doomsday Machine, people think this was the comeback album of Arch Enemy after the lacking Anthems Of Rebellion. I didn't listen to Arch Enemy that often until I found the slipcase version of Doomsday Machine for a low price so I decided to pick it up and see what all the praise is about.

The record "dommsday machine" of archenemy is probably the best work of this great Swedish band because the style handled melodeath ranges from thrash metal to a normal reason why in some forums it was classified as death-thrash, combining melodies emotional as well as fast and brutal guitar, speed and technique on drums, a quite acceptable down and clear a murderer guttural style which characterize of the Germanic Angela Gossow which was not degraded by applying no voice modulator. I would recommend the songs "Machtkampf" and "carry the Croos" which are not mentioned by fans and the band themselves

The best album with angela Gossow and the last truly great AE album. Rise of the Tyrant and the other two releases after doomsday machine were ok, but they didn't match the intensity on this record.

It doesn't beat "Wages Of Sin" as the best AE album with Angela on vocals, but it's still a great album and probably the 2nd best album from AE with Angela.

Their finest with Gossow, I agree. But I'd say Stigmata or Burning Bridges both top this and anything they released with Gossow.

Very decent but not a patch on the previous two. And my God Gossow's vocals are so hideously digitised on this release it hurts.

For sure, I honestly think she sounds a lot better live than she does on album.

Very much so, she's much deeper and quite gruff and raw live, nothing like on record at all.

That is undoubetdly the worst thing about the album. But musically and song wise, I prefer it to AOR, and it's miles better than the latest AE album.

Wages Of Sin is superior to this trite thing. Actually the album with Gossow which I deem good is Wages Of Sin. But of course Stigmata and Burning Bridges are there two best. At least on Wages Of Sin Angela wasn't a marketing trick yet whereas she is her and now even more so. One of the single most overrated extreme female vocalist ever.

well you're right, perhaps she's kinda over-rated, but I really rather Angela to be overrated than the other vocalists similar to Simone Simons to be overrated.

After almost ten years, this album still sounds great to me. I just listened to it. Wages, Anthems and Doomsday Machine were great albums back to back. Too bad the quality went down from here on.

Yeah I didn't like this album when it first came out. Particularly disliked Angela's artificial sounding vocals. Somehow grew on me though. Probably their fastest and most aggressive album I would think.

Best Arch Enemy album to this day. Absolute masterpiece and one of the best death metal albums ever.
Magnificent intro then dynamic start with Taking Back My Soul.It reaches the climax with Nemesis and My Apocalypse and then Carry The Cross. This record has some thrashy elements as well.
Great Riffs sharp solos perfect drumming everything that must be there is available for an ultimate record.
The only disadvantage is maybe effects on Angela's voice that is sad a bit but surely can be ignored.

This one's up there with burning bridges, almost only killer tracks, my favorites being "I am legend / out for blood", "hybrids of steel" and "mechanic god creations". It's one of the only arch enemy albums where I don't really dig the opener, but all the other tracks completely make up for it, really love this one

I dont know, it took me some time to get into this record. Not so melodeath, more like melodic thrash/groove aka Modern day Kreator type. Still a ok album.
