Black Metal. This is it. Ever wondered how black metal solos, breakdowns and - of course - banjos might sound? Ever wondered how black metal could develop in time if you do not count the many failed attempts of so called black metal bands to this style anymore? Well, this is it, this is Taake. The year is 2011 and the album bears the weapons of the north, the Noregs Vaapen. We have come that far and now we can overlook twenty years of black metal and we can see it all in one album.

Let's hope the band will not have the 'brilliant' idea to change and this album will be as great as the others.

Caught me off guard and kicked my ass so hard. This is very good stuff. Atmospheric, check. Melodic, check. Funny, check (The first time we hear the banjo sounds somehow awkward.) Recommended.

I swear I'm the only person who really digs the banjo.

I don't dislike it, but I think it enters very abruptly. Anyways, the album is just very good, and one of the finest BM albums I ever heard.

I listened to the album twice. This is great stuff.
Hoest might be a bit crazy in life but one more time he shows that he is an awesome vocalist and a musical genius. A Black Metal masterpiece like all other Taake albums.

Wait-RavenKing posted a positive comment?! I thought I had seen it all.

Anyways, I enjoy what I've heard of Taake, and will listen to this album tomorrow. I need to listen to them more; I've only heard a few songs off of maybe two albums, but enjoyed them quite a lot.

He must be ill.

To counteract his comment I find Taake to be almost too consistent to be of interest to me most of the time, there's no expansion on his style whatsoever. The very definition of "solid" but kinda not that compelling at the same time because of it. Certainly no "masterpiece" that's for sure, nothing here that wasn't better on Bjoergvin, just someone who's found their groove and doesn't want to leave it (and who hasn't in a decade or more).

That banjo part is actually really cool, and not just in a novelty sort of way - it works really well. Nice surprise... leaning towards a 7.5-7.8 rating.

That's precisely the force of the band, Imo. Taake is very consistent in quality, so you're never disappointed.
They never came out with a shitty or embarrassing album.
How many bands can pretend to achieve the same? Very few.

That's one way of looking at it. If you like what the band does then that's good but to me it's just shows a lack of innovation, a fear of trying something new.

I understand this point of view and there is some truth to it. I'm one of those who prefer some kind of stagnation than a change for the worst, personnally.
Concerning the new album, I think it's a little bit different in the sense that, Imo, it is more generally fast-paced and blasting. Not so much, but a bit.

Even without the banjo, that is song is pretty awesome, I really love the melodies in the beginning. Quite beautiful black metal riffs there

I see it as a funny joke from Hoest. Each time I listen to this song and the banjo comes in, I can't help but smile.
Which is a bit weird, considering that I have little sense of humor.

Same here, that banjo puts a big grin to my face and not because it sounds bad.... Hell no, i think it sounds amazing, quite an incredible solo and it goes well with the riffs... It's just that it gives a sort of joyful atmosphere to me without being cheesy.
Just a couple of days ago I showed this song to one of my close friends who likes metal but doesn't know too much of it and he totally loved it as well.

Just listened to Myr for the first time on the bus this morning.
Laughed my ass off in a pretty inelegant way.
I vote for a whole new subgenre to grow out of this song (Banjo Black sounds great).

Really good release. Pretty headbangable and uplifting as far as BM goes.

The whole album is actually pretty rad stuff. The 10-second banjo solo isn't anything to get worked up about. It was just nice to hear.
