Are they still playing??

I've been a HUGE fan of these band for over 5 years, though, I stopped listening to them because they never release anything new, and they have started to repeat themselves quite frequently. When I first read that Sonata Arctica are planning a new full-length album by May-June 2012, I was extremely thrilled!!!
Sonata Arctica - Forever and ever will be my favorite band and the greatest band in the world!

Completely made my day seeing this, hard not to be excited!

I think this is gonna get delayed... with Sonata Arctica, for the newest two albums, the tracklist and cover (and for TDoG even the tour dates) were announced some five or six months in advance. This is still mostly in the "ya, they made us get a couple of promo pics out and we talk about the album we're gonna do a little in interviews"-stage. Wait and see, I hope I'm wrong... although, even if they're one of my very favorite bands, I don't think this will be very satisfying.

I guess we won't hear Silence or Replica any time soon again.

Good point sir, I shall now give back any linguistics points I'd have earned during the day as punishment.

TDofG had some flashes for me that harkened back to the old SA days, but overall their last two albums have been very underwhelming with the slower paced songs, subpar choruses and lack of energy. Their attempts at growing their sould have fallen flat for me and it seems like a lot of others. I'm always hoping they can recapture the magic, but I won't buy their album just on name this time.

Pumped for this. I have enjoyed every album released and none have been a dissapointment so far.

I've read some journalist impressions from early listening sessions and it seems that at least a couple of songs will be horrible, or at least will be horrible at first what's good though is that the album is regarded as pretty heavy (though I don't really buy it, they also said TDoG will be the heaviest SA album to date and it was only in some aspects) and as an expansion on some of the sounds on Reckoning Night. Which is the greatest thing they should have done before Unia, but didn't. So yes, the resident SA fan is s.t.o.k.e.d.

I've been a sonata arctica fan for 5 or 6 years now, and this is all my opinion, but i'm very excited I feel that they get better each album in all different aspects. I respect that others do not view them the same way as I, and I'm happy their coming out with Stones Grow Her Name, and I cannot wait to see what this album will be like.

Oh yeah, it's pretty awful. The other two are good tho'.

Anyway, the resident SA fan is dropping by to post this. Love the ironic use of dramatic music in it and the fact that nothing is essentially going on but they're filming it anyway, reminds me of Dream Theater's docus. Love the Hammond too. Wonder how Henkka broke it.

Also, do Finns always say they're "penetrating" songs or is that just Tony being Tony?

Also, only now do I notice the full title for Wildfire II includes the words "Wildfire Town, Population: 0". Yeah, he fuckin' burned that place down and you know it.

Is flawed but is pretty. I did not expect to like it as much as I do now, although it appears to me the lyrics are weaker than usual and that my liking will decrease when the CD comes with them. Hoping to do a review.

"The Days of Grays" was severely shit, but this takes the cake for most incoherent and pretentious piece of shit Ive heard in years. Its so shit it made my wife cry...true story.

By once again trying and failing to be "progressive" they end up writing ridiculously inconsitent and patchy songs - its one thing trying to do something different, but this album doesnt even sound like a bunch of half-baked songs thrown together - each and every song sounds like random ideas that do not mesh at any given moment.

Haphazard songwriting to the max - I have no idea when Tony decided he was a country singer or what the point is trying to sound "heavy". Absolutely the most contrived thing Ive heard in a long time.
