So proud that these guys are from Quebec.

Depressive Black/Classical Metal !

Edit: After listening to Gris and SF new albums multiple times, imo SF album is better by a small margin.

One of the most creative DSBM albums I've heard in recent years.

Calling Gris DSBM doesnt do them justice, especially not on this record. They are far, far more than just some dsbm band.

Gave it 45 minutes. Did nothing whatsoever for me. Not really a memorable riff or moment so far. Won't rate it.

No shit? I am only on the second song right now, it sounds pretty good to me (despite being in 192kps )

There's no riffs to speak of that I can hear. Seems to be a medley of noodling with raspy vocals blocking most of that out. Just quite boring to my ears.

Hmmm Joe. Are you supposed to be looking for riffs? I think of this as more atmospheric. Shoegaze and post rock elements are clear as day too = why I dig!

Precisely why this falls flat to my ears two of the blandest genres right there, and ones that already saturate black metal in recent years.

Seriously Joe, I am expanding my black metal awareness because of post and atmospheric black. Yes I know those types of bands must adhere to my favorite genre but I am now starting to branch out!

Then the genre can only get better and more enjoyable for you then as you'll have more stuff at your disposal.

Applies to anyone, anything more than 50 minutes, and I start to fall asleep. Especially if the music is already mediocre *cough* Summoning *cough*

Meh, even if it's more common to see bands making way too long albums, there are quite a few that know how to justify the length of their albums, both very short or very long. Anything else is just a matter of patience or lack of it.

Esoteric and Today Is The Day justify it whereas for example Summoning and the equally, if not more boring, WoY don't

Funny you said that as those were exactly the bands I was thinking about. Elysian Blaze also came to mind. With Today Is The Day is definitely not a thing of patience but rather how much more you can handle.

which means you also fell asleep listening to your oh so beloved Woods Of Ypres four full-length albums just proving what a boring song writer David Gold was/is.
