It's very hard to trace the complex musical structures and deep lyrical content of Canada's progressive rock trio Rush back to their first album. This self-titled debut contains fun loving songs about having a good time, loving hard, partying and working for a living. It is quite evident that the lofty and multifaceted lyrical continuity of the noted 'master drummer' Neil Pert does not grace this album at all; Neil doesn't appear until 1975 on Rush's grandiose prog rock debut Fly by Night.

An impressive start to the career of one of the most talented and forward-thinking bands ever. It sounds ridiculously simple compared to their later releases, but who cares? It's still a good little rocker.

Although Neil is a genius and every Rush album is a masterpiece, none of their following albums matches the excitement, fun, and passion that is displayed on their debut. This album is by far the greatest debut record by any band.

Oh, how I would enjoy loving this album just like the great ones, but it's really not that mature or good yet. 7/8 songs are more or less just average and forgettable, the one killer being Working Man and even that has pretty basic lyrics. John Rutsey was a great drummer, but super charismatic Neil added so much more spirit and passion to the band's image and output.

A little underrated on MS, this is a bit of a hidden gem: most fans focus - quite rightly - on the albums that proceed this cheeky little bad boy but this is right up there with the best of hard rock from the 1970s. Even though it's drenched in Led Zep worship, it stands on its own merit and contains some of the very best Rush songs like "Working Man", "In The Mood" and "What You're Doing'..

If you, like, dig your 1970's rock music, then my dude, you can do way, way worse than checking out this wicked slice of rock n' roll history, right here.

Not bad by any means but considering of what's to come already at the follow up album I somehow choose often to skip this one when listening to Rush. There's no bad songs here but also nothing I would feature in a Rush compilation.

Working Man is a top 5 Rush song, but I echo the previous comments in saying that most of this album is pretty meh.
