You should work out for two reasons: The most important one is to be healthy and the second is to look good...not to look pumped up though...I don't work out like a bastard to look pumped up because I don't to workouts that involve a lot of weights...I do a lot of cardio and a small amount of weights...running for 20-25 minutes, incline bench press, triangle push ups...insures that you have a sleek, racy body but muscular enough and not overdone...

13.09.2010 - 07:36 Written by Zombie on 13.09.2010 at 04:53 Well, thats how you look good my friend Everything, posture, poise, confidence and energy. But I do know what you mean, alot of guys just want to be beefcakes and thats dumb. Idk about you, but I know lots of girls who dont like ridiculously muscular men. What's the point of being so big that you're so bulky, skinny dudes can do circles around you and just kick you in the back of the head. Written by [user id=2084] on 13.09.2010 at 05:43 I agree. Thing with me is that I already have alot of cardio covered because I walk alot and actually the lower portion of my body is really toned. Well, idk if its on the same level. But I think some swimming word work for me, I just need to find a pool or smth. I'm mainly focusing on my upper body. I do situps and about 5-6 different dumb bell workouts for the various muscles. But small weights... alot of small weights.

Yeah...its all about benching less weight for longer periods of time to ensure that the oxygen is flowing faster and for longer periods of time, ensuring that more blood is flowing and more fat is being burned...and if you throw a pool workout into it, well...there's your complete workout...although, I might have even posted that in here already...

So you work out with weights to burn fat? Is that... efficient? I'm not being sarcastic, I just don't know. It doesn't sound like the best way, though. I'll stick to my heavy weights 4 sets of 8 reps for most efficient mass-growth, though.

I just do stuff that I can do at home, or in the woods, or playgrounds, or general architecture (parkour). Most of the stuff means upper body activities and arms. I dislike gyms, but I do appreciate at least a bit of workout, so I wouldn't look like some bum who couldn't push over a kid if his life depended on it. Also, I don't want to look like a guy who could punch through a wall. That sort of thing needs to come as a surprise! Bodybuilding n stuff like that is pointless, such huge muscles distract flow of movement too much. That's why I normally train through parkour, because it improves the muscles for fast movement, not to look like 10 ton of meat.

I used to work out a lot. It did help me get more muscular body, but I still didn't burn as much fat as I wanted to, as I probably could loose a few kilos. But now I started practising MMA - and god it is sooo much better You do a lot of workouts working with your own weight - or maybe your partner' weight. For mma you need to be able to fight for atleast 5 mins without running out of energy and breath, we have to improve our explosivity (fast, hard attacks) - therefore we run in intervals (like sprinting for 200m, walk 100, sprint 200m), and do alot of exercising which will improve our cardio, so we can last longer. One of the really good exercises we do is running up and down stairs. There really isn't that many tall buildings where I live, but we have a hospital with 15 floors. We go there, and run up the stairs like 5 times - we push ourselves to do another run everytime. Although this is not part of our training, it's a thing few of us fighters do the days we don't practise MMA. It really makes your pulse go skyhigh, and on the way down the stairs you can "relax" and get your pulse down. Then up up the stairs again, raising the pulse quite fast :p Excellent training, I really recommend it. The best thing you can do to help your mma training (or maybe another martial arts) is to doing exercises which work a lot of the big muscle groups in your body (dead lift, squat, benchpress and the likes) - and don't all those single-muscle-concentrated exercises, usually you work all those muscles during martial arts training.

15.09.2010 - 20:24 Written by Kasper on 15.09.2010 at 16:00 You're only 18. So when did you start then? I don't know if anyone's heard but starting working out is not recommended if you're under 18. 17-18 is all right but those who start at 14-15 may have serious risk in causing more damage to their still-growing bodies than any benefit...

15.09.2010 - 23:05 Written by Ernis on 15.09.2010 at 20:24 I started when I was about 16. I know it was early, and I had to stop as well because I got these stretch marks (thought they looked ugly, but now they're not that visible anymore), plus some problems with my shoulders from the training probably, but they're gone now. I was able to bench 145 kilos - squat about 150 and things like flying dumbbell I was able to do 34 ½ kilos in each hand, which I was told was quite a lot for my age. Anyway, sure if I had not worked out, and gone straight for MMA - I would have had a totally different body and aother type of strength if you can so :p I began training because I had the idea that I was ready for it. I started out with endurance training - light weights, lot of repetitions. I felt like it didn't give anything, so I went for strength instead - doing heavy weights with few repetitions. Thats the thing that I did wrong theory-wise, I think But it's not like my body has taken any damage cause of the instense training - I sure have gained some strength from it, which I benefit from now while training mma. Some people develop faster than other, and because of that when you feel ready - and if you want, then you should start. Although if I would see a 13-14 year old kid , doing some heavy lifts I would most likely advise them to do differently. As you said, it could probably could cause some damage. It all depends on which training you do. I have read on a danish fitness forum that focuses on all kinds of training, that training with lights weights actually is recommended (for the age of 12 and up if I remember correctly) as you strenghten your joints and so forth, which in a way will make you stronger/durable. You could look at children who practises gymnatics, usually they're actually pretty strong granted their size, and agile aswell

I started working out when I was 12 and it was because I had people taunting me all the time about how I was fat...I was a fat kid and I changed that pretty fast...I started working out in middle school and throughout that year got slimmer and muscular and started really giving it back to all of those kids who made me suffer...I guess I snapped, started lifting weights, did a lot of cardio...I had asthma as a kid and lost it really fast because of all that...it felt good to have the last laugh...over the summer one summer it just sorta happened and I came back to school a lot different and the whole school year that year was just one big riot...

16.09.2010 - 21:22 Written by Kasper on 15.09.2010 at 23:05 Dude, are you serious? And are you sure? Because that's freaking much. I for one (one year experience) certainly can't bench that much (nor squat nor bench flies) and I know plenty of strong people at my gym can't handle those weights either. 145kg at 16 (17?) sounds like the ideal set-up for a future champion to me...

16.09.2010 - 22:07 Written by Lucas on 16.09.2010 at 21:22 My first pull, before I actually trained was around 85 kg, it was more like a "lets see what you can do". 145 kg was my max lift. Now I would definitely not pull those lifts off. I've always been rather large of size (not fat) - atm I weight 98 kg (179 cm height though :/) - I believe my size helped me reached that those lifts. I had the right diet, trainer and ambition if you can say so. I could increase my max a few kilos each week. But because of the hard training I also got those enormous stretch marks from shoulder to upper chest, as well on my thighs. Now I don't have the time as I used to - after I finished elementary school and the first part of carpentry school, I searched for an apprenticeship, and while doing that I started the training. So take in mind I had all the time to train, I was always down at the gym. It took me a year until I dropped searching - and started on a gymnasium (or high school if you want :p) then it was more or less just regular training to keep in shape.

I'm not saying I don't believe, I'm just saying it is incredible. Shame you couldn't keep it up. To illustrate, your 'first pull' at 85kg is now my max. weight at bench press.

16.09.2010 - 22:23 Written by Lucas on 16.09.2010 at 22:14 It was also quite time consuming. No doubt that I will start again when I have the time - but for now MMA is just suitable enough - we still do heavy lifts and intense training, though now we just lift eachother when doing squats and so on. It's safe to say that they're not lightweight dudes, thats for sure. : You'll get there sometime Are you keeping a diet to support your training?

Yeah...diet is important...if you don't have enough protein then you're screwed...and no alcohol or drugs whatsoever That's where people screw up...people do things like go to the gym and then drink a six pack of beer afterward...what's the point of working out beforehand...it was a waste of time...

16.09.2010 - 22:32 Written by Kasper on 16.09.2010 at 22:23 Yeah, I've started a diet - sort of. I've been serious about working out for only half a year and I'm slowly increasing the 'seriousness', so to speak. I know I should work out an eating schedule and calculate all that I need etc., but I know I can't bring myself to that mentally right now - new job, tough school etc. The general plan right now is to keep up what I'm doing right now (3x a week a split schedule, eating as much carbs and proteins as possible), and then when life calms down again (probably in two years) to really pick it up. EDIT: oh btw, im very small so every kg of muscle extra on me looks like a lot more than on someone of 200cm, so thats a plus.

16.09.2010 - 22:55 Written by Lucas on 16.09.2010 at 22:32 Yeah all the diet thing, it can be confusing at first and difficult to keep track of everything, it takes some time to get used to. I mean, in my case I had to eat the double amount of food - just spread out on more meals, which made it even more difficult because I couldn't just eat all the time. It took some time for my stomach to get used it, I wasn't exactly hungry when I had to eat. Also in time it basicly becomes an instinct. You just feel it when you have to eat. And you learn what to eat and what not to eat But of course in your situation it's probably better just to chill out and keep a casual training Quote: Haha, yeah thats cool

They joined because they want to learn to kick the shit out of people when going out. After a good tough training, they go out to their car to smoke, and drink a couple of beers. Obviously they don't want to get somewhere with it. When we're training you can definitely see the effects of alcohol and smokes. They simply can't keep up aswell.

They go to their car and drink a couple of beers? Man, if you did that here in Canada you'd be caught for sure...but I'm sure its the same there in Denmark...maybe not... @Just Elio: Yeah, I work out more in the winter...its so damn hot here in the summer (it got up to 120+ degrees celcius this summer) and I become lazy...plus, I was on blood thinners all summer and the commodin made me really tired and lazy and I gained weight...

@Kap: Nah you normally wouldn't be interrupted by the police. You're pretty much allowed to do everything, but if it's disturbing people then you're told to go another place and continue ones business. But of course if you're out of control etc. then you're brought in to stay in isolation for a couple of hours.

@Kennoth: Overcome your laziness by getting 8-10 hours of sleep, not eating past 8PM, not being on the computer or watching television just before you go to sleep, drinking alcohol or doing drugs before you go to sleep...possibly doing yoga before you go to sleep...more protein and less fat and carbohydrates in your diet...all of this makes a person less lazy...

Thats basically why I started working out. I was too skinny, ate a lot but would never show it (not that I want to look fat either). So I started working out and gained muscle. But I havent worked out in the past few months because I got busy and part of it was lack of motivation. I find now, that its a lot harder to go the gym and work out by myself, unless I work out at home. Ive lost a lot of the muscle that I gained when working out. I don't look as skinny as I used to, but having stopped working out, I am slightly smaller. So I will have to get back in to the gym eventually.

26.12.2010 - 22:15 Written by [user id=28526] on 26.12.2010 at 01:40 Depends on what you do and how often and how you do... for the fat people, they must first get rid of the lard layer by the means of sufficient aerobic exercise, otherwise they will afterwards have more strength but they still have the fat which is bad for heart... If you have almost no lard, then still you should not forget aerobic exercise and always remember to make diverse exercises... chest, back, arms, legs, stomach etc... also don't forget there's mid-chest, low-chest and upper-chest... same for all other body parts... I know cases when dudes start thinking of workout when the beach season is near... then they go to the gym and work out with all those fancy machines and also consume loads of "powders" and "shakes" and other food additives to boost their result... The result will often turn out not the best for they usually focus on the most "visible" muscles such as biceps and at the same time the back and legs are completely forgotten... Another things is the difference of using machines and free weights... the machines will often train only one certain group of muscles while the free weights, bars etc will provide benefit for more than just that... once again... my bro was at a party where there were dudes who had developed tits... why? They only pushed the chest-machine, had lots of protein shakes and after the beach season ended, quit working out which replaced their overtrained pectorals with lard... Speaking of eating and not gaining weight.I also eat whatever and whenever I wish, same with my bro... and, nevertheless, the waistline never gets any thicker and the abdominals are visible... It might be the question of metabolism speed. It might change so you might get fat one day it slows down. Therefore... do sports whether you're skinny or fat...

Getting rid of the lard layer means a lot of lateral press...that really turned my stomach fat into abdomen muscles...people will tell you to go vegan and not eat all that much but you need protein in order to burn fat...
