They're supposed to be an amazing live band.

I saw them. I met them. Dallas Toler-Wade is the shit. Karl Sanders however, is a big faggot. He is such a douche.

But anyways, they played an extended rendition of The Blessed Dead at the opener and an even longer version of Annihilation of The Wicked to close the show. It was like 3 hours long. Second best show I've ever had the pleasure of seeing.

Well, it was about 2 or 3 hours before Nile went on and Dallas Toler-Wade and I were having a conversation and Karl Sanders walks up and starts talking to Dallas. Well, after he is done talking and we are all just standing around, Dallas says, "You want a picture?" I said, "Sure," and I ask if Karl would be in it, too. Karl Sanders then looked at me and said, "Look. We have a sho tonight and I have better things to do than to stand around and talk to you, kid." Then he walked away.

Lolz. I'm just saying, he always seemed quite nice in interviews, I got to see him live and in person and he seemed nice, and I've heard other accounts of him being nice. Ever thought he was having a bad day? I doubt touring relentlessly makes you a very happy man, but he does seem to enjoy it when he plays. I wouldn't base your assumptions of him on just one thing, but first impressions are a bitch. Sorry man.

Okay, I see what you're saying... but all the other bands that were touring with them and even his other band mates, they were as nice as can be. And you're right about first impressions and what I had gathered from interviews I figured he'd be a cool guy, too. But, if some random guy at a party or school or social gathering did that, you wouldn't say, "maybe he's having a bad day"... you'd say, "What a dick." But the fact that he is Karl Sanders doesn't make him different from any other regular Joe. He was very unnecessarily ill-mannered as his first impression to me.

I started listening to nile in about 2003. There music is unique. I did find that my interest in thier sound waned quickly. In my opinion, there is not much variation, but you could level that same criticism at most bands. NIle are the best at what they do, it is just that after a while I feel completely pulverized and need a break. I wonder how well they can reporduce their sound live?

and unique thaya re because of lyrics

Too many fail.
I saw some pretty gnarly clips of karl playing a downtuned double neck guitar with the upper neck being a 12 string fretless. pretty cool sounding shit he managed to get out of it.

Actually it's 11-string. And yes, the new album has a lot of stuff played with that thing and he uses it live too. A very cool concept to use a drop-A tuned glissentar style guitar with distortion. It brings a lot of strength to the middle-eastern essence IMO and it sounds fucking savage on stage.

Yeah, the riffs on the new album are great, but too bad they're so much louder than everything else. The drums are almost nonexistent on Ithyphallic.

Yeh id figure the quarter tones are easier to hit with something fretless than by bending into them with a regular guitar, apparently dallas mimicks the quarter tones with his trem guitar though which is probabl pretty hard to pull of live.

NILE will embark on a U.S. headlining tour in March/April 2008. Support on the trek will come from UNEXPECT, SUICIDE SILENCE and THE FACELESS.

Apparently, the lineup is:

Nile
Unexpect
Suicide Silence
The Faceless
Nachtmystium
The Agonist

But I've only seen one place that confirms Nachtmystium.

They come around here in late March so hopefully I can catch them. I've seen them twice, and am ready to see them in a small venue again. They are very good live, in my opinion. I don't know any of the other bands except The Faceless, so I'll have to check them out.
