Does anybody have any songs they would recommend from this band? I want to check these guys out but first I want to know what the favorites are.

Wind of Horus
The Blessed Dead
Cast Down the Heretic

Lashed to the Slave Stick
Papyrus Containing The Spell ... (tile is really long)
Kheftiu Asar Butchiu (not sure if thats spelled correctly)
Sacrifice Unto Sebek
and of course the epic song Unas Slayer of the Gods

Hell yeah i'm seeing them in September \m// One of my favourite bands ever; awesome musicians, awesome songwriting, sound, etc etc.
The guys are just great (except Kollias, although i don't have anything personal against the guy, i just don't think his drumming matches Tony's )

I'd love to see them again. However, I can't agree with you about Tony being better than George. Tony was a monolithic drummer, no doubt about it. He displayed his full capabilities on ITDS but George is just a much, much tighter drummer. I also think he's a little smarter drummer too. Tony used way too many fills in my opinion and came off a little sloppy. However, they are both very talented men.

Well i base my opinion upon what i hear, plus i would consider myself a drum enthusiast (means i'm intrested in drumming and dissecting whatever i hear in a song in my head). For example listen carefully to the drumming in "Wind of Horus", and then listen to Kollias' blasts in "As He Creates So He Destroys". If you pay attention i'm sure you'll sense the same thing i did - his beats are just.. off.. I don't know why this isn't more obvious, but Kollias' drumming just has that strange property to NOT sound like it's not synchronous, even though it ISN'T synchronous. But if you listen really really carefully you can hear just what i'm talking about.
Either way my favourite drummer is Flo Mounier anyway

I have this really strong sense of doubt that perfectionists and technical masters like Nile "goofed" up in the studio, especially these days. Either you're imagining it, or that's how it is supposed to sound, and it just sounds wrong to you. And it sounds pretty normal to me. Like I said, he is extremely tight and keeps perfect time to my ears. However, I've only had a semester of theory and that was just in high school, so I could be wrong.

No, i didn't mean "goof up", i just think Kollias' timing isn't perfect. Of course he's still human and i'm not saying i like the songs he's played in any less then the songs with Tony. In his playing i see much repetition and recycling and i guess that's the thing that makes me dislike him a bit compared to Tony. And if you remember, Karl & Dallas don't even consider him when writing the songs, they said the two of them write the song (that means guitars, samples and so on) and then they give it to George and he slaps some drumming over it and they like it and everybody's happy. I guess all of that just doesn't work for me as well as for example Tony's drumming on "Execration Text" or, again, "Wind of Horus"
No hard feelings to anyone

Odd, I guess it's just a preference. I find Tony's work to be great on ITDS, but inferior to George. As for repetition, when you get to Nile, every drummer is going to repeat things. Blast beats anyone? I find Tony adding too many fills, while George probably has too many blasts. That's what the music calls for though.

Well, after listening to the Gates of Slumber album I just got in the mail, Nile's 'Ithyphallic' just rolled over the opening track is just getting over and somehow, the album sounds really fresh to me. It might be because it's on my stereo and thus has more power and heaviness, which I initially found the album lacking. Regardless, I think the album is a bit of a grower, and is still a top notch Death Metal album, but may just not be up to Nile's "standards." Regardless, I think it's enjoyable, though I still miss Karl's vocals.

I think that the new album is a step down from Annihilation. I don't like the solos that much on Ithyphallic except for the awesome one in "Even the Gods Must Die" and to me, many of the songs sound much to similiar. Don't get me wrong, its a pretty good album, just not as good as some of the previous Nile works. My favorite tracks are "Even the Gods Must Die," "Eat of the Dead," "What Can Be Safely Written," and "Papyrus..."

i was listening to in their darkened shrines today after having a switch over from death metal to more ambient alcest/agalloch kinda thing and alot of french black metal and i realised how truely great they are. i love sarcophagus and Kheftiu Asar Butchiu as well off the album, but generally the whoole album is good. when i listen to them i dont hear the individual songs, i hear a seamless flow of mystical death.

I don't see anything anti-islamic in the lyrics:

Oasis dark sanctuary
night is born heavy with Shaman dance
by the light of the moon
open your eyes to the song of the universe
slowly we drag ourselves out of the primal slime
slowly we arise to become mankind
irrepressable we journey to Mecca

The heavens the gods are all within you
listen as the voice of reason speaks
the ranting and raving will tear the world apart

Ancient alive seething with power
enigma of a single human heart
monumental, neolithic
bare your soul and enter Mecca
come arise from the primordial mud
cloak thy nakedness
in the endless stuggle of the ages
give your spirit wings and fly

thanX alot KryptoN.
yes, unfortunatly it's not what i expected to be.
i wonder Mecca is the symbol of what here?
maybe the symbol of a higher level for those who have arosen from the primal mud to become mankind.
and this rise is achieved by understanding that "The heavens the gods are all within you" by listening to "the voice of reason" .

anyway, i should've known it can't be anti-islamic caz if it was, band members were all beheaded!!!

I never got why so many people like Annihilation the best. I mean, my favorite part of Nile is the dark Egyptian atmosphere that's mixed in with the music, and Annihilation is almost completely void of this!

Annihilation Of The Wicked is definitely their best, no doubt about it. Their latest album is... well, it's not terrible but it's definitely a step down. I still enjoyed a lot of sections but, overall, it doesn't stand up against AOTW. It happens though.

I agree with annihilation being there best. Wasn't a fan of the new album, usually there stuff just hits me and i get into it, but it seems to be lacking something IMO. That being said i wish they would tour anywhere near me, they are a band i have been wanting to see forever, and they never have been near me as far as i know
