Yeah. George is one of my all-time favorite drummers.
Last summer he released a DVD called "Intense Metal Drumming". In my mind, - a must for all metal drummers out there.. Might be a must for ALL DRUMMERS I GENERAL! Fantastic material, and great learning.

Take a look:

I'm not a Brutal Death fan. The fact that I hate deep growls is really not a good start with this genre for me. But Nile is pure awesomeness technically and a significant step above many other DM bands.

And yes, George Kollias is incredible on drums.

Tried them for a first time today and it sounds really great

i just want to ask (as a person, who isnt really too much into death metal), in which aspects this band is considered to be "brutal" death? i find nothing such brutal in their music, compared to some black metal bands for instance...

If they did that, the viewers would flee in terror, for the common people cannot stomach brutal death metal.

Anyway, Nile is awesome. I own "Annihilation of the Wicked" and it has been in my stereo for weeks on end. I now intend to purchase the three albums that came before it.

The band is beyond amazing. I used to hate Brutal Death Metal for a while except for these guys. Luckily though, I have since broadened my horizons. Their technical skill is astounding, and I love every album they have put out. The material is so well put together with all of the history involved... I feel like I'm learning something when I listen to them.

"In Their Darkened Shrines" & "Annihilation of the Wicked" are my personal favorites... 'Lashed to the Slave Stick' still just blows my mind every time I hear it. The musicians that Karl Sanders has worked with over the years makes me very jealous... I want drummers that mind blowing for my band... You can even look at former members and see the talent they bring to other bands... case in point, Divine Heresy...

I can't believe the times they have been around my area I have missed them every time... It really burns me.

in which aspects this band is considered to be "brutal" death? i find nothing such brutal in their music, compared to some black metal bands for instance...

It's mostly because people often mistake music that is death metal and "sounds brutal" to be brutal death metal. This happens with a lot of bands actually. Nile does have some songs that are brutal death, for example on their debut, and there is a lot of brutal death influence in their music throughout their discography but primarily they are not a brutal death metal band.

I'm not very good at explaining what aspects exactly to look for to identify the brutal death parts because that sort of "genre identification" stuff is for the most part automatic to me, but I think you will notice them as well if you give the debut a spin.

Nonsense. What makes brutal death metal brutal death metal is relative to the degree that each individual finds brutality in the given music. Granted, Brutality is a relative phenomenon, maybe even a misnomer for the feeling that promotes headbanging and the like, but we have a general idea of what brutality is and that can be applied to Nile both new and old.

Not exactly. The "brutal" in "brutal death metal" is not a freely used adjective, it's part of the subgenre's actual name and it's quite a well established subgenre as well (or a sub-subgenre). But yes, if you use the "brutal" as an adjective, then of course no right answer exists because it's 100% subjective.

New to metal storm but have been in love with Nile for years.

I really need to see them soon! One of my favorite bands that I haven't seen (other than Decapitated).

Can't wait for the new album... I freakin love Black Seeds and ITDS.
Annhilation was probably the first brutal album I started to love, and Ithyphallic was great too...

Masturbating the war god is such a fucking funny/sweet song.

Awesome shit!

The new Nile album is quite good! It has some really good songs, but a few are a bit too long and boring (much the same as the last couple really).

It's a great album overall though.

Dude, how does it compare to Ithyphallic ? I hope it has more of a resemblance to ITDS and AOTW ?

Here are my favorite Nile Albums in order:

1. In their Darkened Shrines
2. Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka
3. Black Seeds Of Vengeance
4. Annihilation Of The Wicked
5. Ithyphallic

Time needs to go by before I decide where to put the latest album. Maybe 3 or 4. Nile is so fucking good.
