This was the first time MF sort of lost me...it's ok but nowhere near the quality of even the post reunion albums and quite a letdown after the amazing Time album. It's MF though, so there's still some gems to be found here, they'd go on to lose me further with the next album, and finally recover with the 9 album.

There's a huge drop in quality here compared to earlier material. It starts off alright, both The Uninvited Guest and The Ghost of Change is enjoyable, not great but still. After that there's a lot of songs that seems to go nowhere. For example Fifteen Men has a dreadful mainriff that just goes on forever. The title track has a cool mellow melodic section but even that song feels like a chore to get through. The songs written by King are weaker than what he usually writes but at least there's something going for them while those written by Shermann and Denner are all pretty bad. The production also is a huge step down from the rest they've done.
