The Ralph - Fragments Listen at Bandcamp LIKE them on facebook Spacey prog fusion that is exciting right from the start. This isn't wankery that needs time to grow on the listener; no, this is immediately engulfing of your mind. Tempos never drag, and don't think that they won't throw in some killer heavy tracks either. A few songs feature appropriate female vocals that are well mixed amidst the other instruments, lending a cohesive vibe to this stellar meeting of sounds. Expect great things from this talented Croatian duo. by Susan |
Yama - Seaquake Listen at Bandcamp Yama is really yummy. Despite of having a bit of "dirt" in their sound. Whether you were lured by the ever-so-fascinating cover art or the enticing title, this band really deserves your attention. Seaquake is a pleasurable mixture between psychedelic rock and stoner with bluesy moves. The Led Zeppelin influence is very blatant and so is their groove. The most striking thing about this EP, however, is the power of the riff. The heavy riff. One after another, over and over again you are hit with this blast of energy that makes your body move involuntarily. by BloodTears |
Your Pain Is Endearing - The Turning of Tides Listen on ReverbNation LIKE them on facebook The Turning Of Tides is the second EP in row from these guys. Involving a combination of death metal, grindcore, some taste of melody and blasting break downs here and there, this stuff should certainly stimulate attention in mainly the extreme-oriented metal audience. You'll find various fast/not-fast transitions within each song and a dose of ferocious high-energy performance, plus brutally diverse vocals, which are guaranteed persuasive, not to mention one of the ingredients that spices things up even more in here. Endearing or not, The Turning Of Tides for sure is a ruthless piece of music with a more modern approach. by Abattoir |
The Deadstation - Episode 01: Like Peering Into The Deepest Ocean Abyss Listen at Bandcamp LIKE them on facebook Yes, it progressive metal. No, it's not boring, and I'll tell you why. It's not Opeth or Dream Theater wannabes for starters, so there's no pretentious beating-around-the-bush-atmospherics, nor those in-your-face technical prowess indulgences. It's among the more forward thinking brand of progressive metal, more akin to Protest The Hero and Today I Caught The Plague. In fact, chances are you'll love this if you dig the recent material released by the two bands mentioned above. Yet The Deadstation doesn't sound like copycats either, partially thanks to the djenty sound they employ here, which is, you know, more hipster than black metal these days. This is driven and diverse music with a personal touch that belies the youth of the band's musical career. Vocals may polarise opinions, but I have been eagerly awaiting Episode 2 even before asked to review this overlooked release. by Ag Fox |
Morality Crisis - North Listen at Bandcamp LIKE them on facebook I'm getting spoiled rotten with these articles when it comes to strong and in-your-face acts. Morality Crisis is a band that takes influences from all that has the ability to sonically punch you in the throat: from grindcore to punk, hardcore to post-metal and of course the main crunchy and filthy sludge sound we all love. Do I really have to say more? Well, excuuuuse me princess for being too busy blasting this mean little beast. I feel like I should say more but the impressive drumming, rocking and heavy-as-yo-momma riffs along with very varied and savage vocals just left me speechless, leaving nothing but headbanging behind - and the same will happen to you! by Mr. Doctor |
Concrete Swine - Ural Express Listen at ReverbNation LIKE them on facebook I've been looking for some up-and-coming Finnish bands for quite a while now and the gritty metal/hard rock act Concrete Swine kicked my ass. They do not opt for the "cold" metal genres typical of their countrymen, but they are definitely full of sisu. Ural Express is dirty, groovy, and packs a surprising amount of punches for its short length. It smells like the 90's, but the smell is not stale. It's headbang-a-dance-able.
