Yep, agree. You'll know exactly what to expect of this one if you heard ObZen.

I disagree, this is much more elaborate than ObZen. Sure it has some of the leanings but it's a much more extensive album. ObZen almost felt stripped down in places, imo.

Definitely better than Obzen...but is it just me or is this perhaps the least complex Meshuggah album ever released? Very straightforward, theres hardly any mind-bending timings - Haake will play this shit live without breaking a sweat!
Isn't almost every Meshuggah song in 4/4? Just a little metric dissonance here and there...
Sorry if I'm wrong, I know very little about the technical aspects of music.

I believe so yeah, the band has said they aren't as crazy time signature wise as people seem to think, they just play in a way that gives the impression they are.

I always felt that when I listened to them, that's why I never found them SO technical and crazy.

Yeah, that is right. And I think that they explained it so many times that they ended up overusing it.
Here on Koloss I can recall a few sections they go out of 4/4. Not so sure about ObZen.

Well all Im saying is that this time around they didnt disguise it as well as they used to, hence the drumming comes across even more straightforward as on previous records. Not a bad thing, perhaps its their age showing

I love this album, I've been listening metal music almost all my life and this incredible ''Meshuggah'' release is simply beautiful musical art!, I never thought I would find a perfect album!, but here it is a ''Koloss''!...All that comparing with ''Nothing'', or ''Catch 33'' is nonsenses!, don't get me wrong I really admire those albums, but ''Koloss'' is edge of the ''Meshuggah'' new instrumental nightmare!, of course with naked ear you will not hear that complexity!, moreover ''Meshuggah'' again rise the bar too high, so probably the only ones ho will surpass them will be themselves!!!...

Excellent album. I already like it more than Obzen, and it usually takes a month or more for me to get into a Meshuggah album. As usual the audio sounds super compressed, but I assume that's necessary for this music.

Just picked it up last night... Not going to rate yet because I've learned to let it sink in first. But first impression is that it's not as crazy as I thought it would be. There is very little of the signature Meshuggah polyrhythms going on, which isn't necessarily bad, just...meh. The album seems to be slower and more straight forward, as a whole. Can't say too much yet, still gotta digest it for a month or two. It is definately Meshuggah-dark. Oh, and being a drummer I've got to note that this is the first time in all thier catalogue that the snare sounds a little off..

Finally I have this honor to see them in Sweden studio!, on ''Koloss'' DVD!...I strongly recommend this DVD for every one ho wants to see how the origin MATH-METAL thrives!...
Well what about other so called ''Djent'' bands, none of them will be even close to a true MATH-METAL masters ''Meshuggah''!, there is some band's ho develop their skills and follow ''Djent'' path quite worthy but that about it!......

I love how that song slowly builds up to a higher tempo. Killer track, probably my favorite.

I think this is pretty good, though it could be better, specially the voice/singing i guess they could put a bit more effort with that, try to match what they say, but otherwise it's pretty good

Weird that the best track of the album was composed by Jens Kidman. Did he write another song for Meshuggah before?

This album deserves better, so good! Best Meshuggah release in a decade - "The Demon's Name is Surveillance" is probably the best song this year for me.

Better? it already has 8,3 as average rating. I think that's pretty good for any album.

The slowest song does that to you?
Does "The Hurt That Finds You First" have the opposite effect, or what?

Great album! There are always songs that don't quite work for me on all of Meshuggahs albums and it goes to Don't look Down this time, it has just not stuck. All the other songs were either outrightly awesome or grew on me. The last half of the album I find insanely listenable.

The production on this is brilliant, almost everything is perfectly balanced, the vocals perhaps slightly too low in the mix.
Not the most enjoyable album for me compared to their other releases, but a few songs work very well. My personal favourite being 'Behind the Sun', a slow and very well written song.

I mean.. It's great, but goddamn.. I thought they were repetative BEFORE, lol. It's like listening to a song on repeat half the time.. Still.. Good, though.
My thoughts exactly!
It flows very nicely the whole way through.
